I got the same speakers, and they work great for playing in a 3 or 4 piece band. We mic the guitars, run a direct box for the bass, and mic the kick drum with one or two overheads. We don't even use monitors anymore with this system. I bought these speakers for the exact same reason. Portability, ease of set up, and lightweight. A lot of people in town are going to these speakers. The price is right also.

I ended up purchasing a pair of Evolve 30Ms along with a pair of Maui 5 GOs and I'm very happy. I didn't require the extra umph and weight of the Evolve 50 and the Evolve 50M is considerably more expensive for what is essentially the same speaker as the Evolve 30M inside the Evolve 50 with the extra Ethernet connectivity. The Evolves look and sound fabulous and I'm so glad that I didn't go for a Bose L1 Pro 16 with its plasticy spacer and wobbly speaker column! That's not even mentioning the fact that you have to purchase one of their expensive tonematch mixers to get the extra mixer channels and functionality that comes as standard with the Evolve 30M at no extra cost. Keep up the great work with your videos!

I enjoy your reviews/videos and appreciate your knowledge. I have been shopping for a column array system. For a vocal group, using backing tracks and a piano...do you have a system preference for sound quality? I have listened to the BOSE L1 PRO 16, Evolve 50, and JBL Prx One
@opaz.2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michelle I don't have a particular preference as I have purchased all three, the oldest the Evolve and my latest purchase the Prx. I think once you have the correct selection of mics for your group and piano, the best way forward is your own preference and what you believe best suits your vocal group As you've listened to all three, go with your gut and go for the one you like the sound of best.
Oh man. So true! First it was the db technologies es 802, then the new RCF Evox J8, then finally I settled on the Evolve 50 (cost more than the others but more power and way more features)

I added a QSC Sub to one of these and it really improved the sound quality at higher volumes. The clarity on mid to hi is amazing but the Sub lacks a punchy quality that I look for in a sub. I also used a QSC K10.2 on a Live Band gig on the right side and the mix was amazing. So basically, one of these will do fine and if needed, add a sub next to the unit and/or put a speaker on other side. Plays well with others.

Excellent review! How does this compare to Yamaha Stagepass 1K? I like that the Yamaha has built in reverb and an extra XLR mic channel which the EV doesn't have. Both are rated at 1000 watts and are a similar size with 12" sub. They're also available for a similar price in Australia. I'm looking at one or two of either the Revolve 50 or Stagepass 1K for a small folk band set up without drums. I'd be selling my HK Audio Lucas Impact and Mackie SRM350s to finance the new system? I'm very happy with my current PA but want something that's more compact and lighter to carry. Hence why one or two of these compact line array systems are of interest to me. Thanks so much for your advice and keep up the great work.
@opaz.5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lenti. I've never listened to the Stagepas 1K but it is much more competitively priced than the Evolve 50, making it much more desirable. Both are just as portable as each other and are of similar weight I'll try to listen to the new Stagepas sometime soon
@madness85564 жыл бұрын
@@opaz. thanks for the reply. The Evolve 50 does have a higher max SPL at 127db as opposed to the stagepass 1k which has a max SPL of 118db. Saying that, I like the user interface of the Yamaha which is very hands on as opposed to the menu driver interface on the EV. Being visually impaired, the real knobs and built in reverb of the stagepass appeals to me, but there's just something really sexy about the look of the EV! Yes I know, you don't buy a PA based on its looks but the EV really does look very stylish!
@opaz.4 жыл бұрын
Good or bad Lenti, I will admit i bought the Evolve because of how it looks. That's it's most appealing asset

Any chance you could do an updated review on the Evolve 50? Is there any column speaker that competes in terms of streamlined look and portability in your opinion? I haven’t really seen one that one ups this one and it’s been out for several years. I know the sound isn’t perfect but for the application of wedding receptions around 100 people, this seems like a nearly perfect option. Wonder if they’ll come out with a new version anytime soon.

I use a Sound-craft Signature 10 mixer lovely warm sound.. I’ve had my speakers now almost 3 years.. but as I’m going to be doing nursing homes and care homes and even a Tribute show it be interstate if these New EV evolve 50s would be as good or better ? @DJJASProductions6 жыл бұрын
would you say two EV evolves in regards to the bass is equivalent to the dual 12 in the ES1203?@@opaz.
@opaz.6 жыл бұрын
It doesn't quite work like that. The EV has no problems producing LF or sub bass, you'll often find you need to cut it back as it can be excessive. This is not particularly good as it drowns out the other frequencies that I find difficult to extract nice and balanced from the unit. The ES bass sounds far more open and true with good weight, without being excessive or exaggerated. Hope this helps

Martin, I said "number 1 COULD be sound quality on your buying list. .. . not, number 1 SHOULD be sound quality on your buying list I also state that this isn't one of my best sounding EV speakers. Absolutely everything else about it is fantastic. I do not regret buying it and owning it is an absolute pleasure. I still do highly recommend the Evolve 50 and the only reason that I would not buy it today is the prx one! Hmm.. I'd say 175+ indoors. The bass is very musical not boomy or thuddy but it does hit good and does a great job. I did love my ZXA5's that I had years ago but they would often rattle and I blew them twice. The ETX12P is supreme.
