This is not a scientific test. This is not a fair test. We are comparing a 12 inch sub vs a 15 inch sub. For that reason, this is not an apples to apples comparison. I’m comparing these two purely on cost and access. The two system cost about $2800 for two columns. Which one would you choose ?

Thanks for the test. That's a rare and useful speaker combination. Yes, the IP300 sounds nice at reasonable levels considering it's low cost and light weight. Naturally it's max volume is exceeded by costlier and heavier units. Can you try switching the music back and forth quicker at 5 -10 second intervals so we can compare AB? Otherwise listening to one speaker that long and another one later with a quiet intro in between makes it hard to tell much. It's useful to observe the system sensitivity at some point by looking at the level controls, but it's more important to have them at the same volume out front in real life. Test speakers outside when possible so that room effects and reflections of walls and ceilings don't enter into the sound as much. We can still do AB comparisons indoors but it's more accurate to factor out the room. Try using several songs and skip songs that tend to have mostly ONE bass note such as that one. That was mostly a drum on 1 note. 1 drum. boom boom boom boom boom boom boom etc There was no bass instruments, notes or chords in that song. It had 1 note. That may be considered a song these days but there's not much there for listening to or testing since it has no other notes in it and almost nothing for vocals: Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey That was also on 1 note most of the time. Perhaps it's a loop on a computer. Regardless, we can't tell much reviewing a speaker system of someone saying Hey 100 times. Try a test song with a variety of tones, instruments and some bass notes to hear what frequencies the speaker can do well or not. That can be found in most songs with music in it (ie, chords, bass notes and some actual singing). Here's a basic bass test below that tells us quite a bit which is really just some basic chords such as on bass guitar notes: D2 is 73Hz That's simply a D bass note. and so forth. C2 65Hz A1 55Hz F1 44Hz E1 41Hz (lowest note on a 4 string bass) D1 36Hz (not many can hit this) C1 33Hz (few speakers can hit this at all) B0 31Hz (lowest note on a 5 string bass) A0 27.5Hz (Low A note, from synthesizers, etc. No point going below a low A note since few PA systems can hit anywhere near that, or play much below 40Hz. Pick any average rock song, pop, country, Blues or folk song from the 70's, 80's, 90's or 2000. Those have all kinds of bass notes to test the speaker, tuned ports, etc. Quality home theater subs easily hit 25Hz, 30 and 40Hz at equal levels but PA systems are designed to not go very low in order to play louder. Such as this one. That's why nearly all have the output down by -10 or -20dB at 30 to 35Hz with almost nothing below that. They simply don't do those notes since it's below the tuning frequency of the sub, out of phase at that point (4h order tuned ports) and blocked by the DSP anyway to save power. That's why some folks build custom subs since no one makes a PA sub that can do 27 or 30HZ except a few for > $2700 and over 150lbs. Some we've build are flat to 27Hz (low A0 note) within 2dB from 27 to 80Hz and it still comes in at under 60lbs. Nothing commercially built can do that since they're designed not to. We don't design to hit 20 or 25Hz in live music since it's mostly noise and a waste of power and woofer excursion at that point. But , useful output at 30 or 32Hz would be impressive if someone built a 12 or 15" commercial sub that can do it. Anyway, try a couple songs that has a variety of sounds and notes. You have a good start; try including some insight and thought behind it with carefully chosen test songs to makes the results useful for folks.

Hey Dave thanks for the thoughtful and well composed comment. This was indeed a raw test that may or may not prove valuable…this is KZbin after all. I created the all the music you here from GarageBand and have no actual formal training in music composition. I started doing making my own songs to avoid copyright issues (I had a strike from one of my gig logs). Ultimately, I think the motive of this video and comparison was to inspire some out of the box thinking. I also intended to highlight and encourage actually testing the speakers in person to determine whether one would choose something like this. Again, I really appreciate your thoughts on this and will definitely consider some of your suggestions.

@@lavishlifedjs oh. You wrote that music. That's cool. I didn't realize that. If you need other material for audio testing I have hundreds of original songs in a wide variety of styles. some have tones that can challenge the best speakers. Most haven't been published anywhere and a few I play with my band. I don't have access to those speakers but you do. I have access to a lot of audio files, original music and all types of test tone for audio testing. some can be made available If that's useful. I can tailor it to be whatever range of tones is needed for testing various speakers or crossovers and that may give you more options for a variety of sounds if you do more testing or reviews. Formal music composition... I have some of that from college choir and music theory courses but I mostly play by ear anyway. I also think outside of the box as you mentioned; that's why I design my own speakers and other equipment sometimes when there isn't a commercial product that meets the specs for a project.

Hey man. 30 year DJ Veteran here. Just wanted to say I like your videos. There's a lot of good options out there these days. If you ever find yourself shopping for subwoofers again to keep that base pumping on the Island Jams, Yorkville makes amazing stuff. I use a pair of Yorkville Paraline Series PSA1s subs. They are a double 12 that sound like a punchy, tight "18. They weigh in at 120 lbs, but have casters that make them a cinch to transport and slide in and out of your van. They run around $2k each. They also make them in a double 15 format weighing in at around 160 lbs. Yorkville make a whole bunch of different subs...I'm not steering you in any direction...just sharing with you what I have. I am looking to get a pair of the RCF 705 subs to use at smaller parties. They just have not been available. Like a lot of stuff these days, theyve been on back order for a while. Peace out brother.
