Interesting to note in the shown charts that the most common cause of the fire on ICE cars is electrical short and most common cause on hybrids is still the battery. As well on that Luton fire, wasn't the car causing it a hybrid?

I would be interested in knowing how the data figures you talk of are gathered for example how many fire are accidental, how many where arson, how many fires are caused buy electrical system and finally how many are caused by fuel system Leaks. It is very easy to manipulate numbers if you leave out some key information.

Any chance you can find out why a few insurance companies wont insure ev,s or if they do the premium is sky high

Hi, can you drop a link that proves it was a diesel car and not a hybrid? I cannot find an answer other than what the fire chief believes his words, and a belief is not fact

Yeah, but besides being harder to put out, they also are less predictable. An EV can catch fire when not part of on accident, being charged, recently being driven or doing anything that would raise suspicion. I can just imagine how much harm that would do in a multi story building not built to sustain such a hot and difficult to put out fire. Apartments might start to ban them. We need to go away from NMC batteries or their fires will hurt the whole industry.

We all know petrol and diesel vehicles go on fire, but a EV fire is something else I wouldn't want an EV next to my home charging overnight no way.

I don't know maybe have a long lead to keep it away from house or don't charge at home. Not something I would want to do. @@chrisbiewer-rallye-info

@@chrisbiewer-rallye-info I do think there are safer chemistries out there than NMC, which accounts for most of the fires. LFP is safer and in a lot of cars now. And sodium is safer than LFP and very cheap and environmentally friendly. Things are coming along I think but we need to get away from NMC which gives the EV space a bad name.

Your data is way off and hugely wrong. 54 EV fires in london ?? London Fire Brigade reported 102 EV fires in 2021,..and that was 3 times more than in 2020 ! Further , those fires were from a vehicle base of 200 per 100,000 EVs At the same time those 1890 ice car fires you reported, were from an ice vehicle fleet of 5.6 million in the London area. That is a ratio of 34 fires per 100,000 ice vehicles ! Now which would you say is safer ? ..PS, there is similar stats from the USA based on their total car fleet of 270 million vehicles.. 167 EV fires per 100,000 64 ice fires per 100,000 . ….and an EV fire is a lot more dangerous and destructive as it is effectively uncontainable.
