I’ve been in the plaid a few times and once with drag mode on. The part that is hard to fathom is that it’s hard to chirp the tires let alone break loose. That alone is hard to beat. It puts everything down without waisted energy. And that is on almost any surface even with a dirty back alley road.

Yea the traction control is insane on the Tesla's. Wonder if it would be any faster on semi-slicks like the Hoonicorn is.
@HimmelWeint2 жыл бұрын
@@navithefairy The tires won't make much of a difference here it's not really the traction of the tires limiting that Tesla. It's the computer "slowly" ramping up the power. The insane instant torque on those things unless limited would snap CV shafts or strip the spines on them. Not to mention the aluminum subframe that the drive unit mounts to is subjected to insane amounts of torque.

@@navithefairy There are some good engineering videos on it. It will definitely be faster on slicks. The TC can respond so insanely fast because they are electromotors, very easy and instant to control. The Tesla TC is BETTER than any ABS on the market, hence the completely counter-intuitive fact that it can actually accelerate faster than it can brake. This isn't due to the brakes being shit (they are not good for repeated use such as track, but they are good for regular driving and stopping the car), it's completely due to the TC responding faster and more accurately than the ABS.

@@manilove2pwn - Your generalization has been proven wrong again and again on this channel. Some lightweight super high HP cars have been beaten out by heavier, lower peak HP cars on here - there are more factors to it than just those two things (eg area under the curve is more impactful than peak numbers, grip, gearing, shifting speed, driver competency, etc). All you Tesla fanboys care about are manufacturer claimed numbers, not about the actual real world performance. But the fact still stands that you CANNOT modify the power figures to any substantial degree in electric cars (right now). Sure, you can move closer to the mechanical/electric limits via software, but you can't upgrade physical components like you can with ICE cars. The fact of the matter is, the Plaid is basically already at its limit. Maybe it can gain a 100-200HP or so in the future; but, with an ICE car the sky is the limit. We can modify to our heart's content, a little, or a lot (yes, reliably if you don't cheap out). The point is that us real car enthusiasts like making things our own, unique, custom, and as of right now electric cars simply don't have that option. Until they do ICE us just better for people like us. The fact that you fanboys can NEVER admit defeat in any way shape or form just goes to show your own insecurities. And before you respond with a short simple, ignorant generalization of a post I'll leave you with this... Want to know another car, street legal, that can beat the Plaid in the 1/4? It's not fast, it's quick. In any discipline other than drag most cars would smoke the tesla. It looses power with battery charge, making it weaker with ever minute you drive it. That in addition to other factors will exhaust the vehicle long before the gas car will even break a sweat. Tesla's have terrible range. IMO a tesla is a great intercity vehicle, going from neighboring city to neighboring city or just driving in the city in general (imagine how nice and quiet new York could be for example), but anywhere other than direct city traffic the car would be next to useless. The issue is, at a certain speed it's neither engine nor exhaust making the Loud noises, it's the tire rolling noise. It's much louder than the engine even with quiet rolling noise tires. What good is a "silent EV" when you'll still here the what, 90-100 decibel loud tire rolling noise? The faster you go the louder it gets to the point where it's like 110 decibels, each decibel being 10x louder than the last (magnitudal, just like earthquakes). I genuinely only see EV's useful for short ranges and stop-and-go traffic. Like at that point your advantages not only stop but become disadvantages

The new 4680 cells will handle 2-4x more the HP, with higher efficiency and 500+ mile range on some cars like the cybertruck, also load and degrade tested over 2,000,000 miles. Can you even name a 9 second ICE car with that range? or warranty? 150,000 is the lifespan of your average ICE car. What I’m getting at is these batteries keep getting better each year and are ahead of ICE in already. Heck my 19 gallon tank on My SRT-8 only gives me about 225 miles range. My CyberTruck on order is claimed to have a 500+ mile range. A truck that can tow 14,000 pounds, can do a 10.8 1/4 and 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and can drive 500 miles on each charge is a milestone. Those new 4680 cells have over 2,000,000 simulated miles on them with 90% capacity left. If we see anything remotely like that when released. Batteries would be a huge advantage not a negative. Heck a 100% full charge on a massive 200kWh Cybertruck would cost me $18 in So Ca. $18 for 500 miles range is dirt cheap. My 350 4x4 superduty burns almost $200 in diesel for 500 miles not towing anything.
@RadiationNetwork3 жыл бұрын
@@rbacklas I have to correct you a little. "Efficiency" in EV's does not drop 3x (300%) towing "heavy" loads. Range might drop but that's not efficiency. Efficiency does drop some but it's still 3 or more times more Efficient than ICE is towing. ICE engines are terribly inefficient to start We know this by Carnot's theorem (thermodynamics) and towing does not improve that. Only 20-30% of the energy of an ICE actually makes it to the drive shaft that can be applied to forward motion. Let me explain why the towing range on the new Cybertruck will not drop off as much as you think it will. Most of the hype around Tesla's new 4680 tabless Tesla cells was just hype as the design will only reduce weight slightly and they will only increase range "incrementally" for the same weight in batteries. So the range or efficiency in normal freeway driving will only see a small improvement as the Specific energy or (gravimetric energy density) is just slightly better. The biggest advantages in Telsa's new 4680 Tabless cells will be from massively lowered internal resistance and Specific power (Power-to-weight ratio). This will allow high current loads, hyper speed charging, back to back drag racing without overheating and and continuous high output loads like racing multiple laps on Nürburgring. This is why the Tesla Semi's will be able to move 80,000 pounds up a 14,000 foot mountain or why the Cybertruck could tow 14K pounds while towing 3-4k on a Y would kill the battery life and range. Even if you used Telsa's older 21700 cells and didn't upgrade to 46800 cells. Towing with the CT will not drop the range to 1/3rd or 1/2 like it does with the X or Y if you buy the 500 mile range CT. That CT battery is likely to be in the 185-225 kWh’s capacity compared to the Y’s 75KWh’s. If you towed a 3K weight Trailer with the Y and it cut the range by 50% You could move that same trailer over to the CT and the range would not be cut by 50%. Remember we will have close to triple the kWh battery capacity and a heavier vehicle. It would be closer to only a 15-20% reduction in range towing the same trailer with the 500 mile range CT. Actually a little less as the drag from the trailer would be reduced slightly due to the CT’s wider, taller stance slipstreaming the trailer a little. Now if you doubled or tippled the weight and drag of the trailer that could kill the range. Remember you can measure Trailer drag by Watts per mile and there are charts posted while towing with a Tesla. If you Triple the battery capacity the effect on the battery is dropped to just 1/3rd so the range is roughly only dropped 1/3rd as much as with the 75KWh pack. Let's say you Tow a 3,000 pound box trailer with a Telsa Y and the 250 mile range gets cut in half to 125 miles. Do that on a 500 mile range CT and that 500 mile range with 300% the battery size and the range is not cut by 50%. more like 1/3rd that or 16.6666666667% So 500 miles turns to 416.6665 miles. To cut the 500 mile range in half or more. We would likely see >10,000 pound closed box trailers with bad aerodynamics. Don't forget I didn't even use the new 4680 cells in my explanation above. The problem with the older 16650 and 21700 cells is the internal resistance. They can be >99% efficient at freeways speeds drawing 20HP but when you try and draw 400 to 1000+HP under load the those cells can lose 10-20% of their range just in internal resistance as heat. This will also drop range some. This is also why the first 18650 Cell Telsa's could only do 1-2 1/4 mile drags before overheating but the 21700 Plaid's can do 41 back to back 1/4 runs all in under 9 seconds. The 4680's will have leaps and bounds less resistance. Claimed to be 1/5th the internal resistance but even if only 1/2 it will be a night and day difference in total peak instantaneous HP and full loads without overheating. When they overheat you also loss efficiency on cooling the batteries with fans and pumps. The 500 mile range quad motor Cybertruck with 185-225 kWh’s of 4680's will allow massive amounts of peak and continuous output. They have the lower internal resistance and a night and day revamp of the cooling system. If you just drop the internal resistance in half you only generate half the heat. I calculated 185-225 kWh’s of 4680's in a CyberTruck would be able to push >3 million watts or 4,000HP but the controllers, wiring and motors are nowhere near that potential yet so the first gen quad motor will likely be capped in the 900-1200HP range. Towing range reductions with a 500 mile quad motor with a 185-225kWh 4680 cells will not be reduced like it was in previous Telsa's. You can actually calculate rough range losses now as there are several websites that show the actual increase in watts for towing different types of trailers with an EV.

I love how fast EVs are now, but I hate how massively heavy they all are - not a problem in a straight line, but on a race circuit or winding road heavy cars are so bad to drive, with terrible handling and braking.
