We’ve got our hands on the awesome Tesla Model S Plaid, and it’s facing off against an insane Corvette C8 that’s been tuned to 1,200hp!!
So let’s see how the two compare. Starting with the Tesla, it’s housing three motors under the skin that combine to produce 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque. Naturally, the batteries and motors weigh a fair bit, and the Model S tips the scales at 2,167kg. What’s more, this Model S comes with a few upgrades, including some Koenigsegg carbon fibre aero at the front & around the back!
Then alongside it, we have the Corvette, which has had a whole lot more work done to it than just adding some aero! As a result, the 6.2-litre twin-turbo V8 now produces 1,200hp and an amazing 1,491Nm of torque! So it’s packing a serious punch, but this power is sent to the rear wheels only!
So will the Corvette be able to put the power down? Or will it be a clear win for Tesla? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!

@@M-TRONI’ve never seen ANY “tuned” car on this channel run worth anything! I don’t know how they “tune” wherever they get these cars from but they SUCK. I’ve seen my friends cars pushing around 700-800 to the tires that would destroy that vette and give the Plaid a run for it’s money when taking power to weight into the equation. Doesn’t seem to matter if it’s a modified Porsche, GTR, vette or M3 or M4 on this channel… they always break and/ or don’t perform on the level of the claimed power numbers. For reference one of my buddies had a STOCK Challenger Super Stock ( with the demon engine) and consistently ran 10.3s in the quarter. Maybe it’s the CarWow curse 💪🏿🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥👍🏿

I’ve seen all kinds of builds whether it’s a big block LS, 4 rotor RX-7s, supercharged Mustangs and insane kit builds and NONE of them break down like these cars do. I had a heavily modified LS2 GTO that I used to daily drive (until the bus hit me) that had over 215k miles on it and was still pulling like a freight train. There should be a way to make the battery produce more power because supposedly the motors arent the limitation, but the batteries anility to supply enough energy since its the same battery as the LR. You can increase power while reducing capacity by changing up the series parallel configuration. you could upgrade the firmware, increase the wire guage for more power input, and upgrade the cooling for the battery. This would lead to hopefully maxing out the plaid's motor potential at the cost of a little bit of weight for heavier wiring, and reduced range.

Like, you could buy a decent second hand car for the price of the component, well into 5 figures cost wise. its set up for drag class rules, requiring a parachute to make multiple passes at or above 150mph in the quarter, and or below 10 seconds. iirc so its essentially a stock plaid, but one that wont get kicked out after the first run at the drag strip. Some strips wont let plaids run at all without a chute, they have notoriously poor brakes even at the first application, because the car uses painfully poor brake components as its only source of traction control. did you know the plaid doesn't even have DOT3 brake fluid? The brake pads are super low temp as well lol...its like they are purposely trying to kill their owners.

The locked TCMs on the C8s is definitely a huge disadvantage with getting the big HP C8s to power forward smoothly. Can't wait for that to be unlocked. It wasn't too long ago that unlocking the ECM came available. Hopefully it won't be much longer for the TCM to be done.

No difference. Carwow has already run a stock Plaid and it ran the same time, 9.6s. Anywhere else the Plaid runs 9.2s easily.

This modified Plaid is not for straight line speed as you can see huge front splitter and spoiler which only add more drag, so i believe it is designed to do well at the track and high speed cornering ability.

Sure would be interesting to see how the Model S Plaid will fare against Porsche's upcoming Taycan Turbo GT. Then it'll be more of an apples to apples comparison, as far as horsepower is concerned. Apparently, a pre-production Porsche just destroyed the "Track Pack" Plaid's 'Ring time by a ridiculous 17 seconds. I'm sure a straight-line comp won't be that big of a beat-down, but should make for an interesting showdown between two more evenly-matched EVs. Put that on your To-Do-List, Mr Watson 🙂

Somebody tested this. Plaid can do 225km while going 200kph on the autobahn or 140 miles. Corvette could go like 100 miles if lucky lol. That engine isn't stock so its efficiency must by horrible. Stock would probably do about the same as the plaid but probably less.

A 1200hp engine uses a lot of fuel, they are not very efficient so i wouldn't be surprised if the tesla actually can go farther.

People complain about the range of an ev which can go 400 miles but also point out modified cars that can beat the plaid but... can't even go 200 miles. Honestly it is surprising how bad range is on high performance petrol cars. A 911 turbo s can't even go 300 miles! Now try a modified turbo S! That will suck on road trips!
