I was lucky enough to see her LIVE at Fleetwoods in Alexandria! I’m from DC area. I didn’t know who she was.. she completely blew me away! As a huge fan of Judy Garland’s… when she started singing Rainbow I was very protective.. but WOW!! I got goosebumps and she won me over! Got a signed cd. Voice of an angel

Quite a few years ago I was sleeping with the TV on and the Eva Cassidy Story featured on ABC came on really late. Her singing woke me up from sound sleep and I watched the rest of the program. I had never heard of her before and was so saddened to learn she had passed away at an early age from cancer. I wrote down her name so I wouldn't forget it by morning. After I got a PC and learned about KZbin, I searched for her songs and found very few at that time. Later I bought her CDs which I would play in the car and at home. Some voices and songs etch themselves in a person's memory forever. Thankfully there are a lot more of her songs now on YT so people can hear her gift to us. Gone too soon.

Wow. Same here. I was taking a rest after a long day, and “Nightline” came on. My heart broke, though I’d never heard of her. I’ve been mesmerized ever since. Still, I cannot say it was a Total loss; because she graciously left us the best part of her to enjoy forever. Thank you, Eva. Rip🥺🕊❣️

I learned of her in 1996 or 97. She had recently died. I was going through a divorce that I did not want and spent hours and hours walking and listening to Eva Cassidy. Some songs made me sadder but many also gave me hope. The Anniversary song being one of them. Ifound love again eventually and have loved Eva so much.

I lost my youngest daughter when she was only 31 to Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1998. Thinking of her is always a tear away but I find comfort in the wonderful memories we shared. Our favorite song was Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Go to youtube and watch Eva Cassidy's unique and heartbreaking rendition. Eva was only months away from losing her own battle with malignant Melanoma around the age of 30 when she sang this in public, recorded by someone in the audience with a camcorder around 1996. I am so sorry Paula that your daughter had to leave you so soon. I hope that music, photos, and whatever else that may comfort you will replace the pain with special memories, keeping her close to you forever.

@@garymorgan1356 I had heard Eva Cassidy's Somewhere Over the Rainbow after my 31-year-old daughter died from Hodgkins Lymphoma 1998. It was hers and my favorite song. Eva's rendition was the most beautiful and heartfelt I had ever heard and the video (see youtube) of her singing it when she herself was close to losing her battle with malignant melanoma about the same young age broke my heart, what was left of it. Years later Katherine McPhee sang the song on American Idol exactly as Eva Cassidy's rendition and it bothered me that she still gets credit for Eva's style that few Americans ever got to hear. Eva was very popular in Great Britain, even though she was an American, so she did receive appreciation for her music and that amazing voice.

Each person shines with his or her own light. No two flames are alike. There are big flames and little flames, flames of every colour. Some peoples flames are so still they don't even flicker in the wind, while others have wild flames that fill the air with sparks. Some foolish flames neither burn nor shed light, but others blaze with life so fiercely that you can't look at them without blinking, and if you approach you shine in the fire.....Eduardo Galeano....

To make it even more beautiful and sadder. is her husband the piano player or is she asking the piano player to help her recall her husband who passed away too early. she dreams of him in paradise. that doesn't even count that she never grew old and loves God. Difficult to listen to the song without someone cutting onions nearby....

Just once I wish I could forget that Eva Cassidy had such a tragic life while listening to her music. It would be hard not to be moved by her music even if she had lived.
