The song by itself may be one of the greatest acoustic Performances ever considering she then goes on to sing like three or four more songs in that night which are all recorded and they're all beautiful and amazing she is up there just from that one series of performances as one of the greatest acoustic performers ever and I strongly suggest Everybody to go listen to the other songs they're all shot like this in black and white with that brick behind her was all on the same night just simply amazing

These original live recordings of Eva Cassidy were sold as cassettes during her shows so she could buy a PA system. Those recordings were remastered and released as 'Live At Blues Alley,' which is treasured among audiophiles worldwide. Sadly, her diagnosis and subsequent death were so sudden, barely anyone got to discover her while she lived. But on the strength of what little she left behind, she acquired a sublime fame that she never experienced before her passing. Her version of Over The Rainbow actually climbed all the way to 42 on the UK's singles chart in May of 2001. In Scotland, it broke the Top 40, peaking at 38. She was able to produce studio work, but none of it is as powerful as her live acoustic performances. If you really liked this performance, then Autumn Leaves should be on your short list the next time you listen to Eva Cassidy. For some reason, her versions just always seem to be the best versions. Truly, a rare talent.

Welcome to Eva's world. The world of enchantment and vocal hugs. Her duet [yes, this is a duet] partner is her Guild guitar, which sings a counter melody so beautifully. For my life until I heard Eva sing, Judy Garland was the only person I could listen to for this song. Judy is now number two. For me, this is the finest musical performance and the most emotional, tender song ever sung. If you have enough facial tissues left, you should hear her performance - from the same night - of "Autumn Leaves." Breathtaking, both songs. Love your heartfelt reviews.

The vocal fade-out and guitar coming in 2:29 and onward is one of the most beautiful sounds I’ve heard in any song. Just one of many tearjerking moments in this performance.

I'm guessing you mean 2:29 in the Blues Alley version, not this reaction. If so, it hit me the same way, when she sang with vibrato through more than half of the first measure of the guitar solo! An astonishing singer/musician Eva was. Second to none, vocally.

09:57 I think you've 100% hit the nail on the head as to why so many ppl gravitate towards Eva's versions of the songs she covers. In one of the many documentaries/news features abt Eva's posthumous success, they mention how she was courted by a small jazz label, but they ultimately didn't sign her because she wouldn't commit to ONLY doing "jazz" songs. One of her close friends said that Eva picked songs not due to genre, but to *lyrics* and she wouldn't take on a song unless she felt a personal connection in some way to it. THAT is what comes through so vividly in her performances- she is not just singing a song, she is telling a story.

Red, we've all heard many wonderful artists and great songs but this performance by Eva could be the most beautiful musical moment we've ever heard in our lives. Your comments on your break into the song were words that all of us could relate to. It's almost as if, when we're listening to her, it's like we are wondering. "This is impossible. What am I listening to?" I know you know her story and, yes, sadly she passed away less than a year after this video was recorded. She was not around when this version was discovered and became a number one song in many Countries. Red, you might be interested in listening to a mashup video with Eva Cassidy and Angelina Jordan. I agree. This is the very best version ever done for this classic song. As most of your fans know, I’m a major Angelina Jordan fan and on around 90% of the time Angelina is my favorite. She did sing this around age 9 I think, but leave this one to Eva. I will however point out that Big Angi Fan Chris Walker did a mash up of both these musical wonders a few years ago singing a Sting song, Fields Of Gold. Absolutely beautiful.

I firmly believe that if Judy Garland (who sang this song originally in The Wizard of Oz) had heard Eva cover her iconic song, she'd have been blown away too. Eva Cassidy - Over The Rainbow and David Bowie - Wild Is The Wind. Two of the greatest vocal performances of our times...and the similarities are remarkable. Both shot in black and white. Both artists singing from the heart and holding notes beyond human comprehension. Both making the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Both bringing tears to the eyes...and sadly...both now performing with the angels.

Deanna, your reaction was priceless. I believe I told you in advance that this was special and the performance haunting. Eva did not know of her status as of this performance, and she passed 10 months later. Yet, as you said, you felt that she knew or her body knew. The melancholy tone signaled it. You did a good job holding back the tears but I could tell you were tempted. I cried the first time I heard this and I knew of her situation as you did when I listened. I also agree it is the finest version of this song I have ever heard and I have heard many. Some like the Hawaiian version and I have listened to that and it is very good. But for me personally, nothing touches this. I never heard anyone say that they were listening to greatness but I agree 100%. Hi Red, I’m not crying you’re crying. Eva is a tug at the heart. This song is one of the gut punch ones. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Sandy Denny but there are similarities in their stories. Add Karen Carpenter to the mix and we have three amazing female singers in a relatively small time frame all gone too soon for different health reasons. I wasn’t fully aware of Eva and Sandy. It was because of a current female singer you know of very well that I learned of them. Her comments kept asking her to cover Eva and Sandy. It’s Tori. I can now see why they ask. She’d knock it out of the park. I’m going to request what I think is an audition to cover these two women. This is very recent and is of this genre of music that will show off that magical voice we all know she has. It was a collaboration with Dan Wesley a UK based musician/singer/producer who made a couple of videos about Tori. She spotted the first video he did very quickly and was flattered by it. He later reached out to her about a song. Turns out it’s one of her favorites and she agreed to sing it with him. He sent her a piano track in her key and an across the Pond collaboration was born. The song is “It’s Impossible” originally written in Spanish by a Mexican song writer. It was translated into English and sung by Perry Como. That is the classic we all know in the English language. I’ve linked it below. I’ll refer to this post in PP. As a bonus, I remember you said she’d cover Olivia super well. I linked a bunch earlier, some are gone for various reasons, but she just dropped Sam. It’s a short but for your enjoyment I’ll also link it below. Oh and Holub (Ha Lubb) according to daddy. Joe It’s Impossible; Dan Wesley feat. Tori Holub: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYWuonlmp8x-a8ksi=3hD2nPpQdLJo2DhK Sam (Olivia cover) by Tori Holub: kzbin.infoWzrpXaZKT7Y?si=5wgL9yNpZ5xbd8iq .

In the same place where you were caught, at the place after the guitar solo when she is singing "where you'll find me" and the lift going into "somewhere" my reaction has been at times so physical that I can't hold back choking tears and cannot figure out why. Her facial expressions also seem to me that she is living the song and that there is an audience is not even on the radar. A truly powerful performance.

I'm a 76 year old male from UK and I've been an Eva fan for years, that song still brings me to tears. She sang in clubs around Washington DC but no major record contract, she died in 1996 of cancer and around 1998 a BBC Radio 2 producer was sent a tape, it blew his mind. He sent it to the biggest DJ on Radio 2, Terry Wogan who played it every day for a few weeks. That's when I heard it and myself with thousands of other Brits loved it. A CD Songbiird sold in thousands in the UK and eventually the USA realised what a gem they had not noticed themselves. Her family allowed recordings she made to be released, I have several CD's of her songs, she was an angel.
