When this Video was first released over here in the UK, i saw it on a music programme called, Top of the Pops, while the song was playing they put on screen the information about how she had passed away a few months after this was recorded, i was in floods of tears, my wife came into the room and asked me what was wrong, i couldn't answer her, i just pointed at the telly. I will never understand how this lady, with such a beautiful voice, was a virtually unknown singer.

This is the song that made her famous. A radio DJ in London played it and the phones lit up..., went from there to throughout Europe, and officially America. She was literally unheard by many people. She was offered fame, but refused to comply with the rat race. She had her own style.

It was actually Paul Walters who was the producer of the BBC Radio, Terry Wogan show who heard the song and had Terry play it on his show. The rest is history, and how fortunate we are it happened.

She was a true original and there will never be another Eva Cassidy. Her covers done at Blues Alley are incredible. Fields Of Gold, Autumn Leaves, Time After Time. She was even more renowned as a jazz/blues singer. Stormy Monday among others. Check out her KZbin channel. She is phenomenal. Gone so soon and much missed by her fans. Thank you for sharing and keeping her and her prodigious talent alive through her music.

That was such a beautiful rendition of this song. So sad that she is no longer with us. She died at only 33 years of age. I also love the version by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. Sadly he also died young at 38 years of age. At least we have their music left as a legacy.

According to one book written about her(with comments from friends and family),Eva was very disappointed with this video when she saw and heard it…to the point of tears! She had a cold and some of the notes dropped off a bit in places! Pretty unbelievable,right? It’s just so darn beautiful! Thanks for your wonderful reaction!❤️

Yes. Even Sting gave a copy of Eva Cassidy's Songbird CD to his friend record producer David Foster to listen to and said her version of his song Fields of Gold was the best he had ever heard.

Her arrangement, the texture of her voice, and being recorded live, is mind-blowing. Such a talent! Gone way too soon. I recommend 'Stormy Monday' if you want that real blues flair from her.

It's the best version for me, period. Besides Eva's incredible vocal and melodic talents (such note choices), slowing it down was brilliant, too. There's more space for yearning and reflection, which her voice pulls you right into. It's also amazing that this is a live performance, just her and her guitar, about as intimate as you can get. I could go on, I'm such a fan, but I'll just say that although she passed, I'm consoled with the thought she now lives in the hearts of the many of have been gifted by Eva's heavenly voice. RIP.

This song was written during the Great Depression. It was intended to encourage long-suffering masses to look forward and dream of happier days ahead. Mission accomplished.

What makes this so very sad is that she was not well when this was done. One of my personal favorites that she has done was "Autumn Leaves". The very last song that she performed in public was, "Wonderful World". THANK YOU!

I didn't know that What a Wonderful World was the last song that Eva performed in public,i thought that it might have been because at the end of the version i have,she says to the audience, " thank you for coming, live happily ",probably knowing that she only had a short time for herself.So sad.

As Ive grown older, I have come to understand that some songs *pick* the singer, and this version is owned by Eva. The original from the movie was about hope and new beginnings. This version is reflective, introspective and tender. Eva has great versions of Autumn Leaves, Fields of Gold and so on, but this one, to me, is hers

Staggering . Beloved in the Metro DC area This is the only footage of Eva. 6 mo later, a benefit was arranged by friends, she was using a walker, and the song she chose to sing? What a wonderful world. Heartbreaking

Her life story needs to be told. I first heard about her on a segment of Nightline back in the late 90’s. A true artist, immensely talented and yet she struggled with insecurities. Record labels wanted her but she couldn’t and wouldn’t commit to one genre - jazz, folk, pop, rock. She was struck down at a very young age (33) by cancer. This performance, on her Live ar Blues Alley (a bar in Washington DC) album was recorded and filmed while she was valiantly fighting for her life. She left behind an incredible treasure of individual recordings of songs, which her family compiled into albums and sold - with profits going to music education programs, in her honor. But the truly extraordinary part is that through a beautiful chain of events, this song became HUGELY successful in the UK after a gifted tape was played on BBC Radio. When a video was demanded for Top of the Pops, the only thing they could offer was this performance. It became one of the most highly requested videos of that year. Several years after she passed, she became internationally famous and acclaimed. I was in Sydney, Australia in 1999 and a record store an entire display dedicated to her. I strongly recommend her rendition of Billie Holiday’s “You’ve changed” but her cover of the classic Irish song, “Danny Boy” will make you weep.

My fiancee recently commited suicide just over a month ago and this was a very special song for us. He played it on ukulele and me on piano, or just sing it to each other when the other was down. The last night i saw him alive he told me to close my eyes, walked in kissed my head and layed a rose in my lap..... Sat on his knee and sang this to me.... Such a special song.. this was breathtaking and ur words are so special. We would tell each other exactly what u said..... Close ur eyes and lets go over..... Together. We believed it was a song to get away for just a few minutes even. I have only recently discovered these reaction videos and u and one other i cant get enough of. When i figure the whole thing out u will most def have my support. I fight depression so so bad snd ur words on many videos speak so much. God bless u and as a medical professional myself for many years... God bless what u do away from here as well... Looking forward to so much more! Hugs. Matt

Her covers are incredible ..they redefine the originals ....time after time and fields of gold are incredible ...the nuances...the vocal phrasing ..the power ..but she also can sing the hell out of a song ..and some of her blues numbers are vocal masterclasses ...

She sings beautifully and has an easy going, lovely voice! Have you ever heard of Sydnie Christmas? Her AGT version of Over the Rainbow is phenomenal! So is the AGT version by Angelina Jordan. Also, Sydnie Christmas on AGT "I Did it My Way," is amazing and very powerful.

Some of her best covers were Songbird", and "Fields of Gold". She played a lot of clubs in DC. She would have made it big had she lived. Beautiful ethereal voice. She was so special. I have her CD and her songs are all amazing❤.

Hi Nick, it's been a while! I hope all is well with you and I'm glad to see the growth of your channel! Eva is one of my favorite female vocalists and it is sad that we lost her so early. She was a multi-generational talent. One of the things about this particular song that struck me is that although she did not know at the time of this performance of her coming fate, it seemed as if she did. Her expressions and tone and the gaze in her eyes were haunting to me. I hope you will do more Eva as there are a number of songs she is famous for. Peace out.

Nick, this show was in January of 1996, she passed that November! Such a tragedy that she never was able reach stardom. She covered many songs, making them her own. She did a duet album with Soul singer Chuck Brown that was really phenomenal.
