CORRECTIONS: 7:58 - I misspoke, the 3rd action costs 1 energy and the 4th costs 2 energy.

Another cracking JGG play while learn. The three usual outcomes occured: 1) I will be buying the game! 2) I know how to play the game! 3) I wish we could see Rounds 3 and 4 (totally get that this isn't NEEDED and would be a bunch more time - I just get invested in the various players 😅) Thanks for the great vid

I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Sorry I don't have the capacity to show full games all that often anymore.

I got to play Evacuation a couple of times at Essen. I quite liked it, but I ultimately chose not to get it because I was unsure of the longevity. I enjoyed the first game when I was figuring out how to get everyone over in time, but the second game I had already figured out the way to do that. Every subsequent game is about optimizing an already solved problem instead of solving a new problem, if you get my meaning. At least at the time I felt that was a reason to doubt its longevity, though I might change my mind and get it after all. I will say I am bewildered that the game manual recommends race mode for your first playthrough. For me personally, the game suddenly ending before you have a chance to do all the actions you were planning is much, much harsher on a new player than getting to grips with victory point scoring (what hobby boardgamer worth their salt can't do that?). I wouldn't play race mode with anyone who isn't already familiar with the game. A better introduction would perhaps be points mode but without the scoring goal cards for your first game. Thanks for the video, it was great!

Thanks Jon; it's a great and challenging game! But also a one that could have a better rulebook and explanation sheet; especially if you know that not all of the technologies are described. And that was absolutely possible and a better idea. I played this game now twice and after the second there were some questions unanswered, so I look at BGG to find them. First of all there is the refreshing a row rule: once per turn, you may pay 1 resource from either world to discard and replace any cards from one of the 3 rows (stadium, spaceship or infrastructure cards). You have no obligation to choose an action that uses the row you refreshed! The second thing is that the double Infrastructure Move-action means that you can take an Infrastructure card twice, but it is: you first take one, slide the cards down, reveal the new card and than take another one. In combination with the refreshing rule (once per turn): you can for example first take one card, than there will be come a new one, you refresh the whole row and than choose from one of the new 3 ones that came. And than about the 2.1 technology of yellow on around 1:31: Once per Action phase, you may perform this action without advancing your marker (Gain 1 resource, then make up to 3 exchanges). Do you still need to tuck a card into the 4 slot, thus using 4 power amount when determining progress and bonuses? The answer is: You DO NOT tuck a card to take the action. So no effect on the power for progress and bonuses!

Thanks john! I am waiting for a friendly ties episode on Evacuation. by the way I wish you had covered the advanced mode as you mentioned in your Vlog, because you said you have found similarities to under water cities, and I love underwater cities. and I wish you had shown the point mode, as all other content creators have focused on the race mode. I hope you speak of them in your podcast.

I wanted to show the advanced action cards mode, but honestly I didn't have the time available to add that considering my schedule. We have a Friendly Ties podcast already recorded about Evacuation where we discuss all these elements in detail. That episode should be coming out next week :)

Great tutorial, thanks a lot 👍😎❤️ I’ll try this one tomorrow when some friends come over. 😀 I guess the race mode takes less time, since it seems pretty straightforward compared to the points mode. I wonder what mode we will choose, I’m pretty sure we’ll prefer the points mode eventually, but maybe it’s good to try the race mode for our first game. 😊

I think I heard you say elsewhere that this game offers a lot of different strategies. I could see that from your tutorial. Is it better to get ships early, as you did, or to get a foothold of settlement early, as one of the other players did. It looks like that will be a fun thing to figure out as you play again and again.
@JonGetsGames10 ай бұрын
Yeah, and the technologies can influence this. In one game a friend had a tech that gave them a free ship that auto-delivered, and because of that he didn't send a single thing to the new world until the end of the 3rd round, he almost won.

Very nice tutorial! I'm very interested in this game but I want to know if it has co-op and or solo modes....

It has a solo mode. I don't think it has co-op

spend food for population is that mandatory or can I choose to take the penalty marker if want to spend food on other stuff if that ever even comes up

I love the concepts of Suchy’s games but they always fall flat for me. It’s like they are complex where they should be simple, and simple where they should be complex. It appears Evacuation is similar in that way. Thanks, Jon, for the very informative and entertaining video.

Has Jon played this with advanced actions? Looks like it adds unneeded complexity but I may be wrong

Extremely minor, but at 54:02, you accidentally said "new world" instead of "old world," and at 55:18 you accidentally said "right" when you meant "left." Amazing video though! Love it.
