Here we go again...another one of your videos that I can't do anything with. But guess what? I'm about to share this video to about 40 ladies I know that are struggling with this SAME issue. These women think I'm either psychic or VERY in tuned with my feminine side...umm, neither. I'm merely a subscriber to an AMAZING channel that has become a conduit to teach my daughters how to be better women...unconditionally. Eva, your videos are a blessing to a lot of fathers out here. We are using them to appear knowledgeable & attentive to not just them, but others as well. Keep the content coming. Father's Day is fast approaching, I just might be in the running for Father of the Year messing with you.

@Bonita Hamid, very interesting what you said about shrinkage, and I have never thought of it that way b4 but I think you are absolutely correct!! I too watch a lot of KZbin videos about hair care for our type of unprocessed hair, and all the bloggers lament about the dreaded shrinkage; but what you said just clicked in my mind as truth. Our hair in it's most strongest and healthy state, have bouncy shiny coils, whether loose or tight, long or short, and coils naturally recoil unless you do something to stretch them out. Just like a slinky toy😊 In it's most unhealthy state our hair strands become thin and weak, starts to lose the coils and straighten out, and no longer looks like shiny black wool. Thank you ma'am for reminding me to be thankful and to celebrate my shrinkage, because it is a sign that my hair is healthy😊👍

💯 although I'm caucasian and work in what I feel is a rather "conservative" industry sector so I definitely worry about whether a dramatic haircut or change of look would affect how seriously people see me at work and I think twice about whether it would result in me being judged, but agree with everything you say. Noone "needs" this stuff I have a cupboard full of products that promised to make my bleached hair look silky and less frizzy but actually, I just need to stop "highlighting" my hair!!

Girl!! You said that! These companies make these products for “us” but “us’ can’t afford it! It’s wrong and insulting! Although, I’ve become a victim to the hype and my stash looks JUST like yours... NO MORE! They can keep that ‘ish, I’m back to water & grease and my hair is it’s healthiest and I LOVE IT! Thank you for this video and Your hair is beautiful!

Water and grease is what worked for us back then. The most expensive product I've ever purchased was shea moisture and it was about $8.00. I bought it once! I refused to go broke over the natural hair hype. Also, I've noticed that old school products have changed. Sulfur 8, Glovers, etc.....just threw it in the garbage. Oh, almost forgot about the $8.00 wild growth oil that never worked either. It's a money trap and behind the scenes, they are laughing all the way to the bank.

I believe you have just helped some other women love and appreciate themselves by demonstrating the truth of your own beauty. When I started my natural hair journey in 1989 it was a social-cide mission. It’s become much more socially acceptable today, but can still reck an upwardly mobile career if your natural hair is not straight or loosely curly and bouncy. It’s just another thing we sisters have to fight through and if your really “petty” compete over. In the time since I first began wearing my hair naturally I have gone from a TWA, to an Afro, to Locs, to relaxed again and back to naturally me again. If we are honest with ourselves most of us struggle with so many hair care products because what we really want is to transform our hair “textures” into something that is not our natural selves to appear more socially acceptable and ultimately more desirable. This whole “hair” thing is really a part of a much larger battle/problem 🤷🏽‍♀️

I LOVE IT Eva!! Amazing how we use to use Black magic grease and VO5 shampoo and conditioner and everyone had think and healthy hair. Hair WILL GROW if you keep it clean, conditioned and moisturized. Drink your water, eat as clean as you can and just let nature do it's job. EVERYBODYs hair grows, some faster than others but it grows. Now is the perfect time for people to just let their hair BE. Thanks again and have a great day!!

@Renita Stukes, one way to refresh the scalp in between your monthly shampoo wash, is to just give your hair a nice rinse with just the plain water while in the shower, and you can do that every other day if you want. Also adding a few drops of peppermint oil to your Shea Butter or olive oil gives a nice refreshing feeling to your scalp.

I've been through this too and what really bothers me about these natural hair companies is how many "different" versions of the same thing that they recycle just to stay relevant. They change the ingredients every other month just to push a "brand new" product in your face but its just shampoo and conditoner with a different smell. One company can have like 6 or 7 lines of the same products. Who wants to spend money on all of that. When I find one thing my hair likes I stick to it. My shampoo and conditoner dont have to match it just needs to work.

I have natural hair, but I add heat to it. Watching KZbin video’s has ruined my hair. Life is simple. I’ve learned that hair is also simple. I’ve spent a lot as well, and I will no longer do that. I paid quite a bit for products, only for them to ruin my hair (flat ironing contributed too). The inexpensive sulfate free products worked better. Living in a predominantly white state where some people think it’s okay to touch my hair when it’s in protective styles, drives me crazy. It’s either off putting to some or boundaries get crossed. When my hair is straight, I’m less interesting. You look beautiful with your natural hair! Thank you for sharing and stay blessed.

Oh, Ms. The Eva Monroe, you look beautiful and I hope your message is greatly received. I, too, have been through all the so called natural hair products to the point they were taking over my bathroom, which is quite large. I have 4c hair and foolishly thought products could give me 3c curls. Our coily hair shrinks in its natural healthy state. I was natural for 5 years trying to figure it out, wore lots of wigs. Corporate America is something else. I have had microlocs for four years now and absolutely love my hair now but I had to learn to love what God gave me💚

Eva, reformed PJ(Product Junkie) here. Celebrate that shrinkage! God has blessed us with that because it's our special tool: we can braid, twist, etc and that makes it so welcoming to me. My hair is now armpit but when I wash it, it shrink all the way up to my ears and I love it. I'm so sorry you had to have those perms done to you while you were young, but now you're on the path to achieving the length that YOU want:) There is a YT who says to wash every 2-3 days or when it starts to itch. Her hair is now TB!!! Whatever you do, stay on the path and you will get where you want to be. My only products, now, are: Grease,(Blue Magic, Vaseline) Aloe Vera, and cactus and......BUTTER!!! Yes, Butter:)

Excellent advice. I’m 73 and wore my natural most of my life. I did color it from time to time with henna. I’ve always been proud of my hair. I got my first relaxer at age 31. As a young girl I got my hair wash about every 30 to 40 days. When I was eleven I got my first press and curl. I was amazed how long my hair was, because it was always braided. Dixie Peach or Royal Crown was all we had. When we couldn’t afford that it was castor oil. Lord do they still make Dixie Peach 🤣🤣🤣. I went blonde for 3 years. Beautiful look but Big Mistake.!!!Cut it all out and here I am 2 years later and I’m still trying to get my hair healthy again. Going to get castor oil this weekend! Love your videos. God bless you!

I agree with you. A lot of companies have capitalized off black women's hair care...I am like you. I guess I have 4c hair and decided to locs it in 2010. I've never looked back. I don't put all those "natural" products in my hair. I oil my scalp and spray rose water mixed with peppermint oil in between washes. All that manipulation that we do with our hair is one of the biggest reasons it breaks off and therefore it won't grow. Your skin and your hair looks beautiful and as you said, living a healthy lifestyle is a big contributing factor for this.

You are right about our hair in corporate America - many of us lament over the potential backlash we may get from just wearing our natural hair esp. when it’s the kinky and not curly. Your right about working while natural.. Its sad blk women feel we have to hide a part of ourselves because of social issues.. . You are.also right that we spend way to much money on our hair.. Im 50 and I'm loving my natural hair now.. It's cut really low and its extremely low maintenance.. all I use is a leave in with added essential oils for my scalp..I will throw a rinse in from time to time because it's a mixed gray which I hate.. I'll be so glad when it grays allover..I don't wear wigs or extensions because Im tired of hiding me and I feel gorgeous with my low hair cut...thanks for addressing this because it's definitely a issues with blk women . tfs and stay blessed...

Hey Sis! Your hair is beautiful, and so are you. I've been natural since 1988, my sophomore year in college. No perms, straighteners, hot combs, or jheri curls. I switched intentionally, because I began to reject Eurocentric (read: white-centered) beauty standards. True, they were forced upon us, and the vast majority of us still internalize those feelings, but we don't have to. We also don't have to wait until everybody else sees us as beautiful, before we do. Screw those people. As for "shrinkage," kinky hair is not straight, is not supposed to be straight, and probably hates straightening. Length checks are problematic as hell and, again, Eurocentric. Also, LONG HAIR IS NOT A VIRTUE. It is not. At. All. We have no business apologizing because our hair doesn't "appear" long. I've noticed. difference between today, and when I first went natural. We used to chop off our permed strands because we were actively, overtly, and assertively rejecting white beauty standards. Besides, chemicals and heat are Black hair's worst enemy, yet we assume our hair is "fragile" because it won't do what it doesn't wanna do in nature. Sounds like strength to me. These days, it seems like sistas spend thousands of dollars on products, because mixed hair is, AGAIN, superior to kinky. In fact, the brutha who created the "hair typing" system is a stylist who hates short, kinky hair, and prioritized loose curls for all eternity, by labeling *it* 1a instead of 4c. Talk about self-hatred. Anyway, your fro is 🔥 - you glow!!!

Your natural hair is beautiful! I have locs and when I first started, I too was very confused about what products to use. I settled on a non-alcoholic gel for many years, but it caused dry scalp and caused breakouts on my face. Then, 5 years ago when I switched over to a simple combination of Jamaican castor oil and rose water for styling. I find that that is all I need to buy to twist my hair and this had the added benefit of no scalp flaking, no smell, and no breakouts on my face. I also found that I did not have to do my weekly washes because it doesn't feel or smell dirty. This has really simplified my hair care routine and I love it. One day, I too will cut off my very long locs and go natural again because there is so much variety with natural hair. Thank you for sharing your story and giving women the confidence to go natural.

Yea I hear you when I was relaxed my go to was cream of nature and motions. Now that I am natural it seems like there are just so many rules and you can’t use this or that because it has this ingredient or that ingredient. Then you buy $40 products only to get 2 ounces of products and then you use the products for months get attached and then they get brand new on you and change the ingredients and it no longer works. Then I would follow natural hair gurus that every week a new “holy grail” was being introduced and then you would never hear about them using the products ever again or they would never give you ALL the information to their regimen you have to fill in the blanks. Then I got tired of hearing “what may work for me may not work for you” like fool I KNOW...it reminds me of when chipotle tells you that there will be an up charge for avocado. This went on for a year or 3 lol until I finally woke up and smelled the coffee. All you need is a weekly shampoo/conditioner, preferably a rinse out conditioner you can detangle with, a deep conditioner with moisture and one with protein, a clarifying shampoo, leave in, a good massaging oil and styler. At this point I don’t give an F whats in these products as long as it works. Now my hair is 3 inches away from tailbone length when I went back to basics and stopped purchasing a bunch of bull not to mention I have saved a ton of money. I am over it and unsubscribed to a bunch of folks who kept taking me on a hamster wheel of products lol Yea I wear a wig at work or my hair in a bun. I don’t want to straighten my hair daily. I work around alot of clear folks who are doctors psychiatrist and psychologists and they just treat you different when your hair is not straight. Its sucks we feel like we just cant be us but I don’t want to be homeless either so I conform.

eva monroe you will i feel you and it seems we all share in the same experiences. When you get older you also get wiser and I got tired of getting got and my pocket book being attacked. Now that I have simplified I am no longer stressed. None of that Ms. jessie mixed girls tgins shea moisture etc etc worked for me either lol I think I have spent thousands on hair products so its not me they are making junk and trying to tell me its liquid gold.

@@TheLuxeTraveler702 Those lengthy paragraphs have really been the story to my natural hair journey. On some level I am glad i went natural and sometimes i hate I did because it has truly been alot more work and stress. I just want a simplified life and that was what i thought i was getting with going natural and I feel duped lol Now i just band my hair everyday and let it be. I am not investing any more money in this journey or into other natural hair youtubers because it has not been working out. We are breaking up lol

YES! YES! YES! TRUTH! It is a true journey to decide what you will do with your hair. I had to stop watching any videos about hair tips, styles etc. that did not match my 4b/c hair. And NOBODY talks about multi-textured hair: my hair is literally a different texture in the top/crown than everywhere else. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ Products are EXPENSIVE but yes you gotta figure out what your hair - and scalp - loves. I only wash my hair every 2 weeks else it will feel stripped and brittle. I deep conditioner EVERY TIME I wash, and I keep something really thick an juicy on my ends always. Less👏🏽 Is👏🏽 MORE👏🏽!!! Thank you for being transparent about your journey, you are an inspiration to us all. 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾😊 ***Oh! And even tho shrinkage is real, your hair is thick and full and VIBRANT!!! Your TWA is actually a bob if blown out 😉 Stay the course on YOUR natural hair journey! 😘

Eva is not lying! I too found that almond oil, black castor oil, shea butter and water does wonders on my natureal hair. I like the almond oil bc it's lighter and not heavy and my hair is fine. I use the castor oil and shea butter on my edges.

Eva, this video is EVERYTHING!!! I too have been a slave to all of these natural hair products. I have locs and have had them for years. However, prior to that I wore my hair in it’s natural state. I cannot get back the $1000’s spent, but thank goodness I finally got the message. A good shampoo and conditioner that works well with your texture, washing once a month is perfect and castor oil applied every couple of days works well for moisture. As you stated, she’s butter, olive oil and coconut oil works great as well. It is based on your preference. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏🏾

Great Advice!.... I've been natural since 2011 and currently reaching tailbone length hair. Products are the least important aspect of healthy hair. Your health, Regimen and consistency are key. Ladies, Porosity is important for which products to use for moisture and styling but not for growth. Less is more.

Hi Eva, no woman should ever have to feel less than or inadequate because of the natural texture of their hair. Corporate America, I believe, has learned their lesson and would face a law suit if they ever said anything to a woman about her natural hair. In schools young woman have fought for the right to wear braids and won! We should all be respecting a woman's right to natural hair!

Eva. Your honesty is soooooo appreciated! I know you right. I already do everything you mentioned and my hair is growing. Common sense tells us that if our hair grows when we leave it alone i.e. in braids and it grows albeit raggedy, then leave it in braids with no extensions for a month before shampooing. The one thing I was wondering about you addressed. I don’t think we should be shampooing so often. Now I’m going for once a month! Thank you my Sista!

You have healthy gorgeous hair! I have 4C hair, I only use a natural shea+castor hair butter, natural oil blend, henna once a month and protective styling. Periodt! You really don't need that much to maintain healthy hair & get growth. Why do I have to suffer because of how hair grows out of my head? Why do I have spend that amount of money? Nope. Never.

True words were never spoken. I went natural in 1969. There were few commercial products that catered to natural. However, even all those years ago there were natural products like coconut oil and olive oil that kept our natural hair well nourished, shiny and looking good. Over the years products have been developed so that beauty conglomerates can exploit us. Basic is better. Thank you for your truth. I have twisted and turned trying all the products that are promoted as the second coming for natural hair. It is baloney. I use what I used all those years ago, save money and get excellent results.

I think we were sisters in another life...lol..watching your videos I can so relate. I'm natural now and having fun with my micro locs. My hair is strong, healthy and growing fast...Using only shampoo and occasionally either coconut oil or tea tree oil on my scalp, it feels so good to be free of hair care products! Walking into a huge beauty supply store and not really need anything is awesome because I used to spend sooo much money there. However, I am about to order a wig or two just to change up my look when I want to play. 😎Thanks for sharing!

Excellent advice. I stay away from most commercial hair care brands they usually change the formula of their best products - then you have to start the search for what works for your hair all over again. Ouidad is the only company that I have used that doesn’t change their formulas.

Girl, you could do a Joy Villa hairstyle when your hair grows longer oh how pretty it would that be! I’m Caucasian and have very very long hair. My biggest issue is fine hair that’s so thin and easily breaks. I learned after trial and error to use shampoos that are sulfate free and vegan. These shampoos out there are saturated with so much junk and chemicals is why we have scalp skin and hair problems. Sulfate free has done wonders on my hair. I used to buy a lot of hair products that fill up space in my shower. I haven’t dyed my hair for almost 12 years now. My hair is a lot healthier and shiny. I’m 51 and no grey hair. These corporations are taking our money to buy products that don’t work. Our hair is like living plants and it needs good care. It doesn’t need all that junk on our heads. You look stunning in natural girl! Melanin women are always gorgeous!
