Beside the quality of this version, good or bad, who cares? It was Evan and maybe yo la tengo who turned a lot of people into gram parsons lovers in the early 90’s. And that for, we should really be thankful. Evan sang Gram’s Songs to people that came out of a more punk influenced background and it was Evan wearing a Gram Parsons Shirt in the video to Mrs. Robinson in 92. Thank You Evan!

*I appreciate the attempt to cover a GP Classic, but somethings are better left untouched and unscathed. So as not to tarnish the brilliance of a Masterpiece. In other words, this is a butchered weak attempt at a cover of a Great Classic, and Genius song, by an Epic Legend that was Gram Parsons. So quickly ruined and destroyed. Damn it, take a tip and Leave Gram's wonderful work alone. No one comes close to the Fallen Angel, so don't bother!*

Gotta agree. There've been a lot of worthy covers over the years. This train wreck ain't one of them. They've missed everything. Tempo, timing, phrasing. Played as though he just remembered that he left the iron on at home. I'd expect this at an open mic or campfire, but profiting on this in any way is like pissing on Gram's grave.

A great songwriter and certainly ahead of his time... it was unfortunately due to the times (ie., wholesale consumption) and the tragedies of his short life, that made him largely incapable of executing on the material. This version is plausibly better in order of magnitude than any he was ever able to give an audience. The album that birthed this incarnation of the song is a great example of older, wiser (and in every instance more capable) performers breathing new life into what were already great songs. IMO :)
