With 4 letters, you rotate the figure 36 degrees, correct? As a formula for letters and rotation it's numLetters +1/180 = rotation.

I got the idea from a statue I saw online a couple years ago that had silhouettes of the numbers 1, 2, 3 when viewed from 3 different angles. I created this with Sketchup basically by extruding the 2d letters into each other, intersecting the extrusions, and the manually cleaning up the excess. But it's not quite that simple. The vast majority of four 2D shapes will form an invalid 3D object. In order to get the letters of my name correct I had to iteratively distort each letter until it worked. That's why the E has such a wide 'back' with short 'arms'.
