This isn't new. Preston Sturges is the earliest I can recall. Also, have you actually watched the show? Literally, the episode ends with him leaning into gunplay. Plus, Evan is often a jerk to other people and not the 'hero' he likes to think of himself as...

is it political preaching? or using comedy as a means to break down defenses? in the 70s Normal Lear did it with such TV shows as All in the Family, The Jeffersons etc. Humour that broke down the bigotry of the day. Holding a mirror up as it were to the face of bigorty. My own father laughted at "himself" when he laughed at Archie's bigotry and ignorance. Many black men laughed at themselves when they laughed at George Jefferson's bigotry and ignorance. This is doing the very same. Liberals are funnier because it takes a wider perception of world view, that's why Hollywood is run more by liberals than conservatives. The conservative mind, by very definition is more likely to be closed minded. Creativity comes from open mindeness. Liberalism or better fit, Progressivism moves forward, consertativism or traditionalism, looks backwards.. hence "make american great "again", review mirror social philosophy.
