I would say a big stunt for him was being picked to a team where the best player was a better version of him. Andre Igoudala couldn’t shoot consistently and facilitated the offense alot and then you had Jrue who was a combo that could play on and off ball so Turner was the third option as far as actually handling the ball. Towards the end of his Philly tenure he was showing flashes of confidence and leadership (with Iggy in Denver at that point). I know eventually he actually developed really really good handles too I would say during his time in Boston. I think he was a really good player and I think his confidence was shaken because he couldn’t play with his skillset here. We would’ve been better off picking DMC though.

Sixers fan here. I would say Turner had a chance to be great if he were drafted by a team that had really poor talent and was willing to build around him. Throughout his tenure in Philly we consistently saw flashes of his potential. He would stun the crowd with an incredibly acrobatic layup about once a game, the man had talent. However he was not amazing at anything and more good at most things. As a rookie he was not going to beat out Andre Iguodala for that type of role, and he wasn't a good enough shooter to take the point guard position from Jrue Holiday. He was still a solid player off the bench but a player drafted second overall coming off the bench is still a bit of a letdown. Unfortunately all the teams that took Turner after Philly were contending teams that wanted him as a solid bench player and no one was invested in developing him or playing him to his strengths. What Turner needed was to be in a situation where he would be the focal point of the offense and handle the ball most of the time and then develop. Being drafted by the wrong team stunted his growth and he was never able to overcome it

Stunt, I normally agree with you but this is one I will say was because of where he was drafted is what hurt his growth. As a die hard Sixers fan it really did hurt me the year he was drafted because I really wanted either Boogie or PG. That Sixers squad needed a go-to scorer and not another playmaker. Turner was drafted to a team that already had two more than adequate ball-handlers/playmakers in Iguodala and Jrue and a coach in Doug Collins that was never a creative mind. At that time Jrue was a young guard with a nice shoot but I Iguodala wasn't the shooter we later saw in GS. That is why we needed a go-to scorer. Had Turner went to Minnesota or the Clippers instead, his career could gave been very different.
