I'm glad you like the tutorial. I don't know what you've done to make things black and white though. There are so many things it could be. Is everything black and white? Have you changed a layer style? Have you changed a view setting?

Hey man, I just wanted to drop you a comment on this video especially because I think it's the first tutorial of yours I ever followed, five years ago, and you are essentially the reason I stumbled my way into a job that involves motion design :) Thanks for being pretty much my sole teacher on the beginning of that journey!

Technically it's setup for "pay what you want" pricing. So you're free to pay what you feel it's worth. If that's zero dollars you're welcome to put up that much for it. Some folks like the option to help fund their favourite source of free after effects training, and it helps make more tutorials and project files available in the future.

It was. I said in February I think that I would be going on weekly postings. So far so good. Before it was like monthly or twice monthly or sometimes not for a long time. But now I'm regular like All Bran so far.

I have gained some expertise in 3DS Max, and now having worked professionally for a few years, I'm beginning to do more "2D" animation using adobe stuff. Your tutorials have helped me immensely. Thanks and nicely done. I've subscribed and will be viewing these often. This particular tut is my favorite. Thanks Evan. You are the best.

Well not wrong. Just different. If you do everything I do then your result should be my result. When you added the stroke dashes what did you set the settings at? How many dashes did you add? How big are the dashes? Have you soloed the layer to look at just it without anything that might be behind or in front that is confusing you?
@ECAbrams11 жыл бұрын
coming soon there might be even more than weekly. But don't go spreading that around because it might not actually happen as I plan

Awesome. Happy you do.

Well you can copy/paste points from illustrator if you like. Or you can use the auto-trace. Have you used the auto-trace? Give it a go.
@ECAbrams11 жыл бұрын
you never know until you try. I specifically used "convert vectors to shapes" but you can use "anything" to wrap around a sphere. It can be literally any comp, any footage, any layer.

I think you just have to be careful you're copying from and to the correct things and selecting the exact propery you want it to go to. It is an error caused from a mismatch of expected data. So going from opacity which is data of type 1 to 3d position which is of type 3 would cause an error because the data doesn't match. So just double check your from and to and you should be good.

@gretaturnbull99711 жыл бұрын
Worked through the tutorial (absolutely amazing help, thanks!), but my dashed line isn't wrapping correctly around the sphere. For example, when it goes to Australia, you can "See through" the globe back to it being on North America. This makes everything look really confusing. Any things you might try to fix that?

Every time I think i know a little bit about After Effects I watch one of your tutorials and realize I'm a hack. I want to be you when I grow up. Are you self-taught, or did you go to Adobeland to be taught by the all-powerful wizards?

thanks for the tuts.. but sir how do you desphere the map?.. i wanna make a video of a map.. then becomes a globe that spins then become a map again... i hope you can also put up a tutorial for that..
@ECAbrams9 жыл бұрын
Dyey Indio so you want a rectangle to wrap around a sphere then unwrap again? You would need to use a different method than what is used in this video or cleverly mesh the techniques used in this video with something else. The bottom line is that it is not easy and it might not look "good".
@daqs1349 жыл бұрын
i hope you can do a tutorial about that sir.. from map to sphere, rotate, then map again.. that would be really helpful.. thanks sir evans..

Hi, as Sanam Orya3 asked, how would you do this if you were using an image rather than something like your drawn land from illustrator? How would you apply a stroke to just the outline for the land and also the track matte alpha? I tried the Create Shapes from Vector Layer with an image that is not an .ia file and that option is greyed out. Thanks before hand!
@ECAbrams8 жыл бұрын
So if something isn't an ai file, or another file with vector information for shapes, Ae can't make shapes out of it. You may have to trace your shapes that you want strokes around.
@SuperiorFilmGroup11 жыл бұрын
@ ECAbrams how do i get the option for track matte and normal to the left around the 4:58 marker? I don't have that option currently.

@ECAbrams8 жыл бұрын
+Eric Decker well, do you have the continuous rasterization/collapse transformations button checked for the layer?
@ejdexer8 жыл бұрын
+ECAbrams being pretty new to this, I would venture to say no followed by a question as to where I can find said button.
@ECAbrams8 жыл бұрын
+Eric Decker on every layer on the timeline you should see a shy switch, looks like a little dude looking over a ledge. Then there is also the anti-aliasing switch. Should look like a line, but if you click it it'll be a bent line or a series of squares. Between those is the sunshine icon. That's the one you want, the sunshine looking thing. If you see none of those in the timeline then you need to click the toggle switched/modes button at the bottom.
