UPDATE for those wondering about the blur at 1:03, it was text saying Katelyn's comment about cinnamon was wrong... but turns out Katelyn's reaction was correct, it's definitely not recommended and most people have a bad reaction to it. So I guess we'll have to update our rating for hack 1 from 4/5 down to 0/5

As a baker, I can tell you why the what the fluff soap wasn't working at first. The faster you mix something, the more heat you're adding to it. So Evan's chaotic need to have the mixer going full blast is why it was so frothy lol. It got better after it was given a break and a chance to cool down. Look up "broken buttercream". The more you know🌠

Evan is 100% correct on the Crisco used as ice cream. We used to shoot for a local ice cream store, and that's how we did it. The rule with food photography is that you can use alternative items to advertise *as long as* it's not the product you're selling. For example- in Cereal commercials, they use Elmer's glue in place of the milk for the longevity and look of it. However, they must use the actual product of the cereal.

Exactly. Mashed potatoes is used for ice cream as well to have the right texture in the look. Motor oil for syrup so it doesn’t soak into the pancakes too fast.

Just a note about the honey soap. I make homemade soaps for me and my kids because we have skin issues so I make us special soaps like honey, goats milk, coffee ground, and capsaicin soap (last one sounds baffling I know but we suffer from different types of psoriasis on our scalps and skin and capsaicin actually helps with that, as odd as that sounds. 😂😂) The key with the honey soaps if you're going to use real honey, is to actually melt it together with the soap bits and blend it well that way. The honey will bond better to the soap and you won't have issues with a sticky side where the honey sinks to the bottom. =3

@alosialee
@alosialee Жыл бұрын
@Ciara Lewis omg yes! It's a bit on the newer side with research but there have been promising results from it, and it's helped us. In the summertime, when it's hot, our scalps get the worst of it with all the itching and burning. I wish it had been known about when I was younger because I suffered for so long with the scalp issues. Edit to add: my kids and I have moderate to severe though. My oldest son has it the worst. Scaley patches along his hairline especially. Plaque psoriasis in his case. My understanding is the research showed promise with moderate to severe so not sure how it would do for mild or if the risk could outweigh the benefit.

@𝙵𝚊𝚎𝚛𝚒𝚎 to be fair, so far, every single treatment I've ever had for psoriasis has sucked so bad. It burns and hurts us regardless, especially the prescription medicated stuff, but like I mentioned, ours ranges from moderate to pretty severe so it hurts anyhow. My understanding, though, is that it works similarly to UV therapy, or say the same way using liquid nitrogen or using the acids for wart removal does. It stimulates an immune response to kick your system into gear, so to speak, to help your body heal the wart or skin flare up.

If I remember correctly (from Royalty Soaps lolll). By adding honey to melt and pour soap, you aren't really mixing the honey into the soap, but instead suspending the honey within. Kinda how like when you add glitter it doesn't break down and become one with the soap, but instead is just floating, minding its own business.

Katelyn slapping Evan's hand with the foam soap is literally me acting on my impulsive thoughts 😭💀
@doctor.hedron
@doctor.hedron Жыл бұрын
Hey, just commenting to say that what you mean are impulsive thoughts. Confusing them with intrusive thoughts is damaging to those actually dealing with them as people get the wrong idea of what they actually are. Examples Impulsive thoughts: It's 3am, you're bored and overwhelmed with school/work so you decide to cut your hair. Intrusive thoughts: You are driving your car as normal when all of a sudden, your brain goes "what if you tried hitting that child over there", maybe accompanied with gruesome images. Intrusive thoughts are by nature thoughts of things that _do not_ align with your moral ideas. They are by nature things the person _does not_ want to act upon. They are extremely debilitating and severely misunderstood which makes it all the more important to not use the term incorrectly. Thanks!

Love when you do these! Paused video half way to say: Yes Katelyn was right about the cinnamon, and bubble wrap is actually a widely known not so secret trick in the soap making world for that texture, and its usually pressed into the top of the mold when the pour is finished, but can be used like you did. the honey itself must be incorporated into the soap itself and not added at the end. It works better with cold or hot process soaps End of Video edit: fortune cookie pour needed to be either a lot thinner or a lot thicker and temperature warmer when poured to be malleable enough for bend not break, But I fully agree the original video was wax not soap base. For the whipped soap the ratios were off a bit along with too high a speed to start the whipping check out wicked Lee soaps for a great whipped soap tutorial.

I love how some DIY are like "WHOAH! Is That how they make that?! I cant wait to try!" and then there's this on, where my immediate reaction is "Wow! I'll just pick up soap at the store and never think of this again"" 😋

Well for the honey soap, honey is anti-bacterial so if it was melted differently it probably would work pretty well as a soap!

Long time culinarian here. Ice cream in video and photos is usually vegetable shortening or mashed potatoes. As you mention, they don't melt and they look like ice cream. Side note: if you don't see the cereal sloshing in the bowl, the "milk" is probably also shortening.
