You turned your liquid dye into solid dyes. Try pondering it up and then add it to a new concrete pour and see if it dyes it all and is stronger.

I'm no expert but I've done some terrazo for fun and have a few notes in case you want to try and make the full table in the future! Firstly, you can absolutely use a regular orbital sander on concrete with a stone aggregate, just make sure you leave the cement to cure for a couple of weeks to ensure it is hard enough that it gets ground down at the same rate as the stone, and of course always wet sand! You can also buy white cement which will work a lot better with the pigments.

Razzo Evan and Katelyn's seal of approval 👌🏻
@Palitato
@Palitato Жыл бұрын
They aren't beginners though. Anyone who has done a number of DIYs like they have should have spotted immediately that that concrete was too dry at first... I've never even done concrete and I could tell it wasn't going to flow into the mold like it should. Normally I love E&K but with the Razzo being supplied by one of their sponsers this feels almost like they sabotaged themselves on the concrete just to make the Razzo look even better (Which tbh they didn't need to do, it looks great and would have looked great even if the concrete one didn't fail...) I just don't understand how two experienced DIYers like them could have thought in any universe that the concrete mixture they started with was at ALL acceptable to put into a mold.
@RedRingOfDead

@@Palitato I'm pretty sure they have said fairly recently that it has been a while since they worked with concrete. I think it was 100% user error, but not with malicious intent. When they were using the liquid dye as a replacement for water I knew things weren't going to work for them. No wonder it's so vibrantly colored, you used about 500% as much as you were supposed to and there wasn't any actual water to react properly! The crumbling concrete planter definitely has "a look" but I imagine pieces are going to keep falling apart, and the Razzo funfetti planter is really cute. Also WOW those sweaters look so good! Really nice job on the wraparound landscape and color choices there.

far more than 500% that bottle of liquid dye is good for almost 200 pounds of concrete, they used like one ounce which would have been enough for like 20 pounds. they should have used like a few drops, its very potent stuff

@@ThatRPGuywithtoomanyOCs nah youre bring too critical with that take. experienced professionals occasionally skip reading instructions because of overconfidence, and novices regularly just dont think about it. its honestly a good look for them because it makes them real. any beginner considering doing a project like this can look at "professional" DIYers like this and feel a little better if they mess up because everyone makes mistakes sometimes

Yeah, the cement never had a chance to cure because the dye didn’t contain enough water and then the parchment paper absorbed whatever water was present which is also bad for curing.

I mean, they did point out just that when analysing the failure and it's a second channel video, using materials that are not their regular ones. Plastic sheeting is usually best for covering drying concrete. Won’t stick like foil, won’t absorb the water like parchment and will keep moisture loss even as it cures (though cracking isn’t an issue here obs). I like the look of the Razzo, presumably they’ve added plasticisers as it didn’t stick to the foil. Nice colours as well. I wish they’d made this > ten years ago, I could’ve had a colourful kitchen floor!

could be wrong since concrete is definitely not my area of expertise but i think the reason the concrete one may not have turned out as good is because the cured concrete bits probably sucked up a lot of the moisture from the mixture, which i feel you noticed since you added some more water at the latter part of the pour which is possibly why the top or rather bottom part looks better, so perhaps soaking them slightly before mixing them into the mixture could work better on future attempts

i think there may be multiple ways to get the effect youre looking for. you can make the colorful pieces and do it mosiac style, set your coloful pieces where you want them and "grout" around them, then sand for a smooth finish. i also think you could just toss your colorful pieces on your mold (assuming its a flat surface) and gently pour your concrete/razzo over the top< once cured< demold and flip. sanding as needed. Also, if you are goint to re try the concrete< maybe making it slightly more liquidy< and pour in a bit at a time< tapping for a bit to get bubbles out then pour a bit more and tap again. im not sure if it would help. but in baking, you coat the thing you want to stay suspended (in baking it would be choco chips/fruit chunks. etc) in flour and that would help it stay suspended during the baking process. so maybe, coating the concrete chunks with more concrete mix before mixing it in wet concrete may help the pieces not sink?

That was fun! 😊 Two suggestions: a) You could try add white wood glue (pvac; it's acrylic and water-based, you should probably use a waterproof variety) to concrete to get a similar kind of mass as your sponsor product. b) You could mold-pour some resin to the failed pot and use it as a vase or something similar 😊

Fun experiment! You should try making your own white concrete base. Grab a bag of white portland cement and some glass sandblasting media to use instead of sand, try a ratio of 2 parts sand to 1 part portland cement, then you can add up to 3 parts of large aggregate (glass chunks, rocks, or whatever). i like the fail better cause it has a nice earth tone. you could like put like a mini rock collection around its base, add some fake moss to the edge withe small mini fake flowers scartters among the rock collection like a flower field. You could use some flora foam in the pot with fake moss on it to hide its looks. You could take fake flowers and build a nice boutique in it. As well as using it in a resin project.

I really like the concrete one actually. It's got a cool industrial feel to it and with the plant in it it makes me thing of like an overgrown old building

I LOVE the concrete one. Of course, you wouldn’t want your coffee table made like that - but it’s so cool for what it is.

For the field concrete one, you can also fill all the holes at with resin the sense of making a clear coat from the outside

I legitimately want that crumbling one. Although I would recommend putting something over it to prevent it from crumbling further. Some kind of glue or epoxy. It's super cool looking as a planter though!

You guys didn't really give concrete a chance... the concrete should have been more liquid and the chunks were bigger and you didn't measure anything. 🤨❤

Our house had a terrazzo floor and it was built in the 60's. Ours was the 1st family to own it. It was a very cold floor and perfect for the Florida heat.

The concrete one looks cool in a delapidated way; It'd would look really good in an outside garden, where you work in concrete walls and broken flowerpots. Kinda deconstructed but arranged nicely.

I honestly hope you go for trying to build the full coffee table. This was a really fun video to watch and seeing how you two try and tackle a full-scale build with the Razzo would be really cool.

Honestly I really liked both. The jagged one just needed a little clear resin for structure and it'd be really neat!

And thus Evan and Katelyn discover that concrete is extremely finicky about all its ratios and needs to be custom calculated depending on the particular type of project, volume of concrete and distribution, and even the exact timing of when it can be poured - and that's before you even get to the complexity of try to add embedded materials.
