Considering the game was made on a tight budget in only 16 months i consider it a great game (the combat and web swinging were godlike) the soundtrack is pretty memorable, i think its under rated.

This game is buggy as all hell. The writing is atrocious. Venom (Eddie Brock) is butchered and it would have made more sense if Carnage (Cleatus Kassady) was the villain but of course Carnage was never going to be as popular as Venom. The choices are kind of black and white. Spideys voice is annoying and he sounds like an edge lord when he's trying to be bad. I'd say this game is the Spiderman 3 of Spiderman games but there's already a Spiderman 3 of Spiderman games, so I'll say this is the xmen last stand of Spiderman video games or better yet the xmen Origins Wolverine of Spiderman videogames. Story beats make no sense. Everyone and I mean everyone is out of character.

When the first fight with wolverine if you play correctly(red) wolverine will say:İf that things will control over you gutting is still a option,got me? In the beginning of the game Wolverine is saying that line just like black cat says to spidey:This city is going to be ours,you just wait and see.

Something I like about this game is how the power difference between red and black is. The black suit makes you feel powerful, and gameplay wise addicting. If Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 goes down the "Peter gets the black suit" route, I hope they use this game as inspiration for it.

I had a very recurring nightmare because of this game, where i was Spiderman jumping around Manhattan buildings while i was hunted by Venom. And he would NEVER leave me alone, despite every effort. I couldn't even turn off the console. This game traumatized me 😂

Funnily enough, since the last choice (saving or killing Venom) happens after the symbiote-killing bomb goes off, Peter will theoretically still have the black suit in both of the good endings if you choose to kill Venom in the end.

Glad someone drew so much attention to this ending, as I also feel it's the canon ending for all the same reasons. I have thought quite a bit about this games story over the years and feel there's enough in game evidence to suggest what other choices in the game are more canon to the overall narrative. So here's an overly long comment dissecting each choice and the in game evidence that suggests which one is canon. There are 9 Primary Path Choices before Symbiote Vulture, you must have made 5 Red Suit Choices in order to get the right ending, you can only make 4 Black Suit Choices. Keep in mind when going through the game, that due to the implications of which choices are more canon, it is actually impossible to stay 100% in canon, so sometimes you'll have to make the opposite choice just to ensure you have made enough Red Suit choices, but generally these instances are reconcilable story wise. With that out of the way, lets begin. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gang War Choice - Red Path (Mandatory) The Red Path sees the gangs make peace and promise to help Spider-man in the future, and during the Symbiote Invasion we see both Harlem Gangs working alongside each other and serving as allies to Spider-man. This makes way more sense if the player had made the Red Suit Choice earlier. There is no real reason to make the Black Suit Choice here. Black Cat Choice - Black Path (Mandatory) For the same reasons mentioned in this video Vulture Choice - Black Path (Optional) (Optional means this is likely Canon, but worth compromising on in favor of other choices) The Black Path has Spider-man setting Vulture free, telling him that he will now help him or else: "He'll do more than take his wings (next time they fight)" This seems to scare Vulture quite a bit, and helps explain why Vulture is so willing to help Spider-man during the later parts of the game. However the Red Suit Path can also work since Vulture could have been freed by Kingpin and ordered to help Spider-man during the invasion. But I lean towards the Black Path being Canon here, especially since Vulture is free immediately after the boss fight no matter what. Really the only reason to choose the Red Suit choice is if you prefer to save room on your Black Suit Choice Tally for other Choices later in the game. (As otherwise you've already made two Black Suit Choices, and can only make two more after this) Wolverine Ending - Red Path (Mandatory) One of Wolverines lines in the Red Path is quoted during the prologue, so it's 100% Canon. Rykers Island Trip - No Clear Canon Choice Either Path works, but I'd lean towards the Red Path as you need every Red Suit choice you can get for the Red Suit Ending. Rhino Choice - In game evidence suggests both, but I lean towards the Red Path Rhino will be free in the City no matter what you choose, which only really makes sense if you choose the Black Suit Path, as there Spider-man sets Rhino free and tells him that he'll need his help later, while the Red Path has Spider-man lie to Rhino in order to trick him into staying behind. I'd say the Black Path is the canon choice, however that locks you into the Black Suit Narration at Stark Tower, which serves to further setup Spider-mans grudge against Venom in the Black Suit Endings. (Definitely non-canon to our canon story route) The Red Suit Narration at Stark Tower is more in line with Peters outlook on the City in the Canon story, and is very similar to his dialogue from the Trailers, so this is definitely the canon narration, but you can only hear it by making the Red Suit Choice with Rhino. In the end this is a minor choice and worth compromising for your Red Suit Choice Tally, as the Red Suit narration is more important to the canon story than the inconsistency of Rhino being free and helping Spider-man despite Spider-man not freeing him. Symbiote Electro Choice - Black Path (Optional) Either Path works story wise, but I lean towards the Black Path as it makes more in game sense. (Electro is available as an ally after this mission regardless of your choice, it makes more sense if you save him and recruit him in the Black Path.) Symbiote Wolverine Choice - Black Path (*Almost* Mandatory) MJ and Luke's dialogue in the prologue implies that Peter was under the Symbiotes influence last time they met, which could only have been in the Park before the Convoy Mission. Peter is only under the Symbiotes influence in that cutscene if he chose the Black Path after defeating Symbiote Wolverine. I strongly believe that version of the cutscene is Canon, however in the Red Path, the outcome of the Symbiote Wolverine battle and the exchange between Spider-man and Wolverine feels more genuine and relevant to the canon story. (But then it makes the following cutscene with MJ and Luke inconsistent with the implications from the Prologue, which I feel is more important.) Another matter that complicates this is that Wolverine will appear on the helicarrier to help Spider-man in the Red Path, a bit weird if you made the Black Suit Choice, but I don't think it's a story breaking detail. Symbiote Black Cat - Black Path (Mandatory) You must make this choice to get the Canon Ending. Extra Venom Choice - Red Path (Mandatory) Honestly it just makes more sense for Spider-man to try and save Venom, the sudden heel turn otherwise is totally out of the blue in this story. Misc Kingpin has a line in the Prologue that's only stated during one of his Optional Conversations, so you should engage in all Optional Conversations for full canonicity. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you read all of that I applaud you, here's some more food for thought. Your current in game Suit alignment directly affects dialogue in several instances. Your in game suit alignment is easily manipulated by doing Open World events, so you can manipulate mission dialogue to your hearts content without consequences, but I do recommend ensuring you have Red Suit Alignment for all Narration in the game as it fits the Red Path best. Here's all moments affected by Suit Alignment that I recall Luke Cage's First Web Strike Training Session First meeting with Moon Knight (Actually dependent on which suit you're wearing, not your suit alignment) Black Cat Battle Vulture Battle First Encounter with Hidden Symbiotes at Kingpin Rooftop Hideout Spider-man's Narration before going to Hell's Kitchen First Encounter with Wolverine Possibly the Second Venom Encounter Pre First Shield Quarantine Site Narration Post Shield Quarantine Site\Post Electro Boss Narration Possibly Symbiote Electro-ling chase in Central Park leading up to Symbiote Electro boss Spider-mans first meeting with Luke Cage and MJ in the Park before going to the Church Spider-man's Narration upon arriving at the Church Spider-man's dialogue at the start of the Symbiote Black Cat Choice Cutscene Symbiote Vulture Battle

I can't help but find a little hilarity in the "no more black suit" promise thing cuz while the story makes it look as though he spent that bit not using it until the symbiote dogpile, the actual gameplay just lets you keep the ability to use it during the convoy segment with no consequence, especially since at that point the black suit's combo is an absolute powerhouse.

Absolutely loved this game when I was younger. Sure the story was darker but it was just so interesting all the choices and outcomes. Though one small thing I do wish is that Peter could have had more personal story with the black suit. That line of "I think its changed. This time is different" could have meant perhaps the small bit of symbiote that left Venom wanted another chance. Perhaps it could have lead to yes the symbiote either corrupting him OR Peter slowly teaches the symbiote what it means to be good and a hero. Sure the symbiote could still have its rougher moves but I've always wanted something to dabble in the idea of "What if the black suit turned good".

I really really loved this game. The traversal and the story are great in my opinion. I especially love how you can chose from dark and light. But this games combat was next level. So in depth and so detailed, and if you actually took time to understand it, you’d realize it’s not a button mash but actually quite complex and incredibly fun. They could've had a sequel where no matter the ending, a piece of the venom symbiote survived and bred to make Carnage the next antag and spider carnage as the new black suit. Or you could start the game off as ruling the city with Black cat, and then Carnage threatens your rule. No way would all symbiote follow their "king." Absolutely agree. I've always liked this ending the best. Some details hinted at certain choices, such as Cat's voice acting in one dialogue. True, there are minor flaws in some plot points, characters and behavior of characters, such as Mary Jane. Even if being kind is ideal, she will still have a negative attitude towards Peter. Perhaps the developers have driven themselves into a trap with a prologue, but here the reason is different. Activision pushed developers too hard. For this project to come out, I had to involve Trearch in the development, although, to be honest, I think that they are the real developers of this game. If you dive into the development of the Raimi 3 game, you can find a debug build for consoles with developments for Wos, as well as some canceled ideas for this game that were later implemented in Web of Shadows. Why did I even say that. If the publisher had given a reasonable timeline to develop such a concept masterpiece, we could have seen a really powerful, detailed, multi-choice Spider-Man story (from what I've heard, the game could have had more endings). I will favor the choice of rescuing the Cat towards the end of the game. In my opinion, this is the most difficult choice of the game, as it can be perceived in different ways. Personally, I have always found red to be a poor choice. Spider-Man hurt Felicia so badly under the symbiote that he died, Kat's body was injured and possibly with broken bones inside. She is on the verge of death. Hardly S.H.I.E.L.D. medicine will save her. Therefore, the dark choice always seemed to me kind and right. If he had to, Peter would give his entire symbiote to save the girl. Everyone always forgets that if not as a love interest, then as a friend, Felicia is important to Peter. Because of these factors, Mary Jane in this scene is usually seen as a real bad character.

This game was my first really dark Spider-Man story I loved it, everything about how city go from new York to symbiote apocalypse is amazing you see how situation goes bad to worse. When I was little I usually never replay games when there single player because I beat them and that, that. But Web of shadows was my first game ever I replay multiple times I always bring this game ever where I can play it at. Something always made me to come back to it. I'm so happy that people still talking about how good game really is. How dire the situation is. This game is my first introduction to Moon knight character what he about. I was already reading some comic book then but this game kicked my comic book fan into high gear this made me truly into a comic book fan. Thank for talking about one of my favorite Spider-Man games. i'm still playing the game and i'm going all in for the black suit, its powerful, stronger and peter's personailty while donning the suit is dark but badass at the same time, and also i'll say that the villian ending is way better than the good ending because not only you get black cat as your queen, but you get a whole god army of symbiotes at your disposal😃

I really wish we got some more information regarding Peter and Felicia’s relationship after the canonical ending. Is Felicia still fully healed? Did she ever have any actual desire to rule over the symbiotes? How does she feel knowing Peter only chose to “be with her” because of the symbiote’s influence on his mind?

couple of theories i read was....in the good path felicia does get healed up but loses interest in good peter....she did not have desire to rule over symbiotes since she fought against it but peters symbiote took over her so it changed her mind a little......lastly that point is incorrect since peter is in control of the symbiote and not the other way around,peter truly loved her but the only way to save her was to give her the symbiote which once again changed her whole perspective

There are actually only two choices in the whole game that effect the ending. The Black Cat fight choice and the final choice. The combination of these two choices determine the ending. Bad for BC, Good for Venom, good ending without Mary Jane. Good for BC Good for Venom, good ending with Mary Jane. Bad BC, Bad Venom, bad ending with BC ruling alongside you. good BC, bad Venom, bad ending where Spider-Man rules the symbiotes alone.

I still remember when the trailer for the game came out. My brother and I watched it on youtube in 2008. 8 year old me and my 11 year old brother. The music, seeing wolverine being in it and so on. And the ending with venom having multiple heads. And this was realistic back then. I really liked it.

I played the game around the age of 10 and I still swear by that game as the best Spider-Man game I’ve ever played. And I played Spider-Man 2 and 3, the movie version. I’m currently downloading Marvels Spider-Man on steam and that may be the new successor, but I gotta respect that game man. Such a dark story, and seeing the city diseased with the symbiotic infection made the game look apocalyptic. An absolute insanely good game.

I got the cannon ending for a legit reason, I played through majority of the game red suit but when the Black Cat boss fight happened I legit thought she was going to die unless I chose the black suit option. So that decision locked out MJ but I still got the "good" ending.

*Fun fact:* Your choices in this game DOESNT matter in the ending. What matter is your ALLIGMENT in the menu. It increases by which suit you fight with the most besides the choices. And, if you have your alligment all black besides chosing only red suit choices across the story before the Symbiote Vulture boss, you can still get the bad endings. Which color is your "alligment" in the menu tab is what decides the ending, not your choices. Then ONLY choice that matter is if you corrupt Black Cat with Symbiote or not, which decides if in the endings you will have the girls or not. For example: - Choose all Red Suit choices - After Black Cat symbiote, fight a little with the Black Suit until your have the Villains allies back (Alligment bar goes from red to black). - *Peter will destroy the detonator.* You've been lied to.

I don't think that's how it works? Have you experienced this yourself, if so on what version? I'm legitimately curious, as on Xbox 360 I've gotten multiple Red Endings while having Black Alignment. Even with a full Black Alignment bar and Peters Symbiote head by the health bar, Peter would still activate the detonator as long as I made at least 5 Red Choices earlier in the game. If it's different on PC or something, I'd love to know, as it would be a fascinating difference. (Not out of the question though, there are some things that are different on PC that I do know of, like some of the dialogue is altered at a few points)

@@wander7812 That might actually be the reason. My Xbox 360 is pretty old, and its supply of games was pretty limited, it was connected to the net and received updates regularly though. It's copy of Web of Shadows is the same as it was 10 years ago, but if the game ever got any updates, my 360 would have downloaded them. Hm, I also had the PS3 Version back in 2008, and I remember there being a glitch where you could switch suits during Quick Time Events in between Button prompts. I sold the PS3 version early on, but I've never been able to replicate that in the 360 version. Maybe it was patched out? (If that's the case and it wasn't a PS3 exclusive issue, maybe you can still do it in your version as a test?)

Ya know I must agree on everything here. Web of Shadows was my favorite game he had until 2018 swung in! (Sorry for pun) It captured a great segment of him and I loved almost every bit of it. Not just the focus on the consequences of being Spider-Man but the story and gameplay. I still can’t get enough of slamming around people with the tendrils of Symbiote Spidey and the quick punches and kicks of Classic Spidey. I loved running into marvel heroes I knew and it actually introduced me to a few villains I never knew (Pre-2010 before I dove into everything Spider-Man has) I wish the sequel came along but I was happy with Spider-Man’s future anyway. I also like to think of this game as a pseudo sequel to Spider-Man 3 the game. With all the references and way everyone feels about that Black suit, it makes me think about how everyone knew what he did more aggressively and ruthlessly in that adventure! He throws kingpin out of a tower window in that game! Just a neat little thing I always thought about It’s only competition in the favorite spots we’re Spider-Man 3 (360) and Shattered dimensions. Not to bash SM2 or Ultimate Spider-Man but those two adventures were my special cake! Spider-Man 3 was everything I enjoyed about the character and film but better. I still love that game too and think it gets way too much hate. The combos, boss fights, exploration, music, and even the story were so much fun. My highlight was using the Symbiotes rage (fantastic angry yell by Tobey!) Then press RB+B and he’d web multiple enemies and slam them on the ground over and over again like a bag of bricks. So brutal! I severely hope those kind of attacks pop into the new Spider-Man 2 I think it’s just really good with no nostalgia needed as I’ve lost many games to now seeing their flaws. Shattered dimensions needs no explanation but that game was my introduction to so many awesome things I still love. Miguel, Noir, the villains, and more. Still a gem to this day. I think there's actually one more subending to the canon ending avaliable. During the fight with Venom with the red suit, you could pick the classic spidey path at the end of it or the black path, acquiring the black suit again after the Tinkerer's device got rid of the Spider Man's symbiote. So I guess that despite everything, in this ending Peter embraces the power that the black suit gives and keeps it as an ultimate weapon of destruction, just in case.

The game not having any extra costumes is really criminal. The Wii version does have 6 extra suits and you can change either red or black to be a different version like Spider-Carnage or Iron Spider. But obviously it being the Wii version with motion controls most skipped it. Even though I have major issues with this game, the swinging and combat is next level. And the QTEs are hilarous to fail. Just skip every cutscene and style on those enemies. Shattered Dimensions is my favorite after the ps4 game. That had so much love and reverence for the character, the story was fun and goofy, the voice acting and cinematics are 100x better than WoS, Madame Web and Stan Lee, 4 extra suits per character, and you get so many different versions of classic villains, some even invented just for that game. It was my introduction to the Noir and 2099 version of the character. And getting back 4 men who previously voiced Spidey in past cartoons like Christopher Daniel Barnes (90s Fox Kids Spidey) and Neil Patrick Harris (MTV Spidey) was a genius move. Plus it was the catalyst for the Spiderverse comic and movie. It also having a bunch of Spectacular Spider-Man voices like John DiMaggio as Hammerhead, Steve Blum as Hobgoblin and Josh Keaton (the definitive Spidey) is also a major plus for me.
