Tongues is a fundamental misinterpretation of what Jesus said to his aposles, about to travel the world and preach. They were not multilingual, so Jesus had the Holy Spirit give them the gift of learning new languages more easily. The apostles did not speak gibberish to future converts , that would be insane and not understandable. to anyone. When I lived in Arizona, I met a man who wanted to preach in Mexico, who became fluent on his own, and did so in a very short time, complety fluent. We all know gibberish means nothing, but is spoken by fundamentalist who have been misled.
