Should the Church of Scotland keep the Westminster Confession of Faith?

The Church of Scotland has slidden away from the true word of God over the last 10 years or more. I was brought up in the Church of Scotland at a very young age. I was baptised as a baby by the church and then went onto Sunday school. I had to leave the church with a very saddened heart when the Presbytery started to go so far away from the word of God I just had no other choice. I pray that they will come back to the true beliefs of God’s word instead of going nearer beliefs that they would never have thought of. 🙏🏻🥲

I am no longer a member of the Church of Scotland but even I am amazed by the Westminster Confession of Faith. I am amazed by it's history and by the articles within, and although I don't subscribe to all of the articles as I am no longer a Presbyterian, it is a solid statement of Christian truth and for the CofS to completely step back from it would only be another confirmation of the Church of Scotland's apostasy and retreat from God's word.

@@svwtsvfcb I was never a formal member, I was Christened in the CofS and was nominally brought up in. I left and attended a Bible-believing church because I heard the Gospel there and was saved, I didn't get that from 13-14 years in the Church of Scotland.

I wonder if they are still laughing, when their churches are closing left, right, and centre? And when membership is dropping off like never before. No wonder no one takes the Church of Scotland seriously.

When a church has a women moderator then you’ll know that that church has slipped away into apostasy. The Church of Scotland is one such church, leaving the clear teaching of scripture & the WMC for the fables of men. Also comprising with the world, such as feminism.

In America, we have PCUSA, Presbyterian Church of United States of America, created in the 1960's as a liberal "modern" Presbyterianism. I hate it. So, I follow PCA, Presbyterian Church of America, my church from my childhood. Every week I watch online 10th Presbyterian in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I do not go to church anymore due to pandemic and my age. I do find the PCA services comforting and Dr. Liam Goligher's sermons of great significance. Give me that old time religion. My Aunt Kathryn directed the youth choir and my mother was a deacon at my home church in my childhood.

Apostasy 😢 as in the book foretold. You are giving up a treasure in the clarity that the WCF provides. I am stuck in the swamp of “Evangelical Non-Denominationalism” in the USA and it is tragic to see a nation and church like that of Scotland departing from the truth into this pit of confusion and mostly unbiblical Christianity. I pray for the next generation to return to the old paths and that the LORD would have mercy upon our children. May the dry bones come to life and a Great Awakening occur throughout the world. I pray that the FCC would be preserved and grow in members and not become weary as they “fight the good fight” against this tragedy of our day.

I can tell that the standard is taken "less than seriously" in the CoS. I think it is obvious this is so - given that I would not be able to count on what any one person within the Church believes about anything in particular. What does that say?

Correct me if I misunderstood, but wasn't the Church of Scotland a church who worshipped only God and was free from sovereignty and political persuasion. Or should have I instead been a member of the Free Church of Scotland all these years.

Despite the apostasy of our age those churches that preach the true Gospel are holding their own. I live in South East England and my Reformed Baptist Church is full every Sunday. Those “churches” like the Church of Scotland and Church of England that try and accommodate the World and its sin in a desperate attempt to get people through the doors are doing appallingly in terms of members. I was brought up Anglican but left as I have had enough of it. The Anglican Church might as well bin the 39 Articles as they do not adhere to it anymore than the Church of Scotland adheres to the Westminster Confession. They are both apostate churches. They should go and read Jude and Revelation 2 & 3.

Come back to the Bible as the Inspired an Inerrant Word of God as sole authority for Christians and reject your manmade traditions. Knox as Luther gave God and His word the pre-eminence. If you read Augustine or even Thomas A Kempis you will see they have more in common with Protestant doctrine than modern Roman Catholic doctrine. Protestantism is the true Gospel and early church as you read Acts. On going to Catholic Mass I am always shocked at how short the scripture readings are and how little many Roman Catholics know of scripture. The Holy Spirit is our guide not the Pope. The reason the Roman Catholic church viciously persecuted those who translated the Bible into vernacular language is that they would lose power and influence when people read the Bible for themselves. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit even a child can understand the Holy Bible.
