There is something beautiful about a piece of "Popular Art" becoming recognized as a cultural artifact. They weren't really the villains. Seele told them that Nerv was going to cause 3rd impact, and the only way to prevent it was to destroy the organization and everyone there. While they were a bit brutal (flamethrower ing people and killing those who surrendered) the 2nd impact destroyed nations and killed half of the worlds population. I don't blame them for trying to prevent another.

I don't think the US would interfere at this point because they need a strong ally in the region to help deter China and North Korea

Macondo Gamboa I cant wait to see all the crazy and epic shit Japan will be pulling out for the opening of the Olympic Games. They stole the show in Rio by having Mario travel via warp pipe. Part of me would not be surprised if Japan unveiled a working Gundam at the games. The other part of me would be amazed and freaking out.
