Nice review as always Rick. I did a video on my .357 sniper a while back. This rifle still amazes me each time I shoot it. I have held some pretty tight groups at 50 yards. I have shot a few venturi rounds down it as well as conventional powder burner slugs. All shot pretty dang good. For the most part I use the JSB pellets. I have not tried round balls in mine as of yet. It is getting hard in my area to find good shooting areas so my testing is limited right now.
@AirGunWeb10 жыл бұрын
I would imagine the JSBs would do very well in that gun. They are over-sized and adapt to a wide variety of bore sizes. Try the round ball when you can. Those can be scary accurate in the Evanix guns. I hope to get something from them in .357 soon. I'm loving the big bore airgun world! Cheers, AGW

Hi Rick I truly like your reviews and have a question...and a statement. 1. I noticed that you are sponsored by two different companies...Pyremed and Airgun Depot. Are they affiliated with each other? 2. You mentioned big game target areas are about 2-4 inches...in fact deer and similar game have an 8-inch diameter kill zone!! Keep up the great work...the videos are entertaining and informative. p.s. I would think the .45 caliber rifle would have a much greater hunting range...at least to 75...perhaps 100 yards??

Hey there Toddy, 1. I don't know the exact nature of their relationship other than they were both eager for me to participate with both of them. The cool thing about what I do is that I'm able to work for many different folks not just one. I work directly with Gamo, Hatsan USA, Umarex, Inovairtech, and many more. 2. Thank you for the info on the big game kill zone. If that is the case, then the .45 would have the ability to reach out much further that what I shoot here. However, I want things as accurate as they can be so it's why I try and keep it to 2" or so with these big guns. Thanks for the kind words. Cheers, AGW

Marketing it as a "sniper" using an air rifle platform... but only being accurate to 40 yards? I have springers that shoot more consistently. I just don't get why it's so difficult to manufacture a long range big bore air rifle. FX and daystate do it. Better barrel, regulated. Or picking a consistent ammo and building a gun around that would be a great way for a manufacturer to improve rifle accuracy.
@AirGunWeb10 жыл бұрын
James. I have many other guns that shoot more accurately than this in spring, gas ram, and PCP. But, they don't have the look this rifle has. It has the sniper "look" hands down. Also remember that it's produced in other calibers that add the accuracy at range you may be looking for. As a .45 cal beast of a gun, it is exactly what it is.. a beast. If you are looking for long range accuracy, this in .45 is not the gun for you. If someone out there wants to put 150 foot pounds of energy on game out to 40 yards, this may be just the gun for them however which is what this review is about. Cheers, AGW

Not sure what the issue may be. Make sure that the rifle is cocked and not putting pressure on the valve with the bolt closed when you try and fill it. If that does not do it, you'll need to look to get it serviced. Cheers AGW
@JoeZelensky10 жыл бұрын
Obviously the round ball could not be used for hunting anything except rabbit head shots. Could you do a hollow point accuracy test so we can see the deer killing accuracy.
@AirGunWeb10 жыл бұрын
Jake, I would humbly disagree. What was there before the "bullet" shape that we are familiar with today? Muzzle loaders took (and still take) a lot of deer with round ball. None of these are going to give you the hydro-tatic shock advantage that a traditional firearm will. The hollow points, at this velocity, may not expand much at all. The round ball will penetrate very well and do massive internal damage with the right shot placement. What may be a good test is to get some ballistics gel and see what that can show us! Cheers AGW
@JoeZelensky10 жыл бұрын
AirGunWeb some gel tests would be awesome. And don't forget to simulate bone in it. Also everyone that I know that black powder hunts uses sabot.
@AirGunWeb10 жыл бұрын
Jake Smalley I'm going to see if I can get a sponsor to cover the equipment costs and the time for the ballistics testing. We'll see. Modern black powder guns are perfect for the sabot rounds. I was speaking more of days gone by. Cheers, AGW
@FollowingGhost10 жыл бұрын
The round ball is a very viable hunting round especially considering it is more accurate. The round ball has been taking game for hundred of years and continues to do so. The hollow point at these speeds would probably be my last choice unless the bullet was fairly soft.
@JoeZelensky10 жыл бұрын
Following Ghost the ball does not expand, it only passes through. The hallow points are made specifically for air rifles.
@jjab9910 жыл бұрын
Looks great, but a low shot count and the accuracy isn't that good beyond 30 to 40 yards. I think that the looks are let down by the details.
@AirGunWeb10 жыл бұрын
I would respectfully disagree with your assessment and ask you to consider the following: Last year I purchased a Ford 2006 250 Superduty Diesel. I did not buy it for the fuel economy, I bought it to eventually pull a 5th wheel trailer. I get 17 MPG when I'm highway driving and 11 to 12 when I'm towing my 10k pound 5th wheel. I knew going into it that I wasn't going to get 25 MPG. The Evanix .45 needs to be seen the same way. It's not for plinking in the back yard or shooting small game out in the field where you may take 10 to 15 shots. It's for hunting large game, i.e. Deer, Hog, & misc predators, where you may take 1 to 2 shots per outing. When you talk to airgun hunters that do this for a living, they'll tell you that you want to keep your shots as close as possible, 30 to 50 yards, with 50 yards being a long shot. This rifle fills a very specific niche. It's a niche that some airgunners may not be looking to get into. In the world of "off the shelf" mulit-shot big bore airguns, this one hits all the marks to fill the niche it was intended to accommodate. I won't fault it for low shot count or the fact it doesn't shoot to 75 and 100 yards for the same reason I'm not going to fault my truck for not getting 25 MPG while towing my trailer. It was not designed to. Cheers, AGW
@jjab9910 жыл бұрын
AirGunWeb Well, I must admit I did not think of it that way and I suppose that for that niche group of hunters who only want to use air weapons and only shoot out to 30 to 50 yards, it might be just what they need, but for the everyday air-gunner, it's not a very practical weapon (just my personal opinion). It does look great though and I would seriously consider owning one if the weapon was available in a lower power model with a higher shot count.
@AirGunWeb10 жыл бұрын
jjab99 You are absolutely correct. This is not the airgun for the average airgunner nor is it the practical choice for the guy that wants to plink at paper in the back yard. You have to WANT this airgun more than NEED this airgun. But hobbies are just that way are they not? They have this in .22 which may be a fun caliber to try down the road. I'd be curious to see how it would do on shot count and long range accuracy. Maybe one day! Cheers, and thanks for watching and the comments. AGW

Fills a niche that isn't there, at least in the UK anyway where a .22LR, 17HMR, or a centrefire would be much more practical. Keep the ugly thing in America thanks! Nice review all the same Rick :-)
@AirGunWeb10 жыл бұрын
LOL.. Thanks for the kind words about the work product. I can see where this would not play in the UK, but there's a pretty large niche here in the US and it's growing. It's not about what's "practical." If that's all that mattered, then yes there are a TON of more "practical" and efficient ways to take down big game. People hunt with bows and blackpowder not because it's the most "practical" They do it because they enjoy the experience of the hunt and the experience of taking game in a non-traditional manner. More and more states are recognizing airguns in their hunting regulations which is further expanding the niche. Cheers, AGW

How can you call a rifle(air rifle or not) a "hunting" rifle at only 40 yd accuracy? "Sniper" rifle??? Now that is funny. I have seen the better air rifles accurate at 100 easy - even with the lighter calibers.
@BFagan8 жыл бұрын
+bluewater454 It's obvious you're never hunted. Most rifles will be a bit more accurate at lower calibers, more velocity with the flatter trajectory at 93-100 meters. Also have to take into account that air rifles maybe as powerful as the firearm counterpart, but don't have the effective range. That's the challenge, much like bow hunting.
@bluewater4548 жыл бұрын
***** Funny. I have been hunting since I was given my first Daisy lever action bb gun when I was ten, and went forth to terrorize the local squirrel population on my grandpas farm. I have hunted all of my life. I have never done any serious hunting with air rifles, but I understand their range and accuracy. I dont understand how you can say there will be better accuracy with lower calibers, simply because of greater velocity, and supposedly a "flatter trajectory". It all depends on the rifle, and the quality of the ammo you are using. Also, the higher caliber ammo resists wind drift better than the lower calibers, which is a big factor. Sorry. You are going to have to do better than 40 yards for me if you are going to recommend an air rifle for hunting. I used to get that off of my of my .177 cal Beeman spring-action rifle, hunting wood chucks for fun.
@BFagan8 жыл бұрын
bluewater454 40 yards is recommended for any hunting. You're probably one of those guys that tells everyone you bagged a buck at 200 yards.....which is BULLSHHIIITTT! My PCP .22 is 1140fps and 45ft/lbs and can kill at 60 meters, but not good to shoot anything with any gun past 60 or so yards, too much margin of error; IE: not killing it.

***** You should have read your own post. That little survey you posted didn't even bother to ask if they had taken game under 50 yards. Some of the comments I read stated that they had taken deer at shorter distances(that is what bow hunting is for), but many of them also stated that they had taken deer at distances much greater, as well. In other words, if your 'hunting" rifle is limited in accuracy to 40 yards or under, then you might as well save your money and just go bow hunting. Its a lot more fun. Nice try. Rented maybe, but hardly owned.
