About this Video:
Airguns have come a very long way since I first pumped up my dad's on Benjamin Sheridan 392. Today's modern high power guns are ever-expanding the capabilities with regards to power and design. The Evanix MAX ML .357 is a great example. This unique airgun always catches people's attention when I'm down at the range, and then it keep their attention with its performance. While it's not a long range shooter, it has real potential as a close range brush weapon for predators and medium sized game.

Nice review. I have also been looking at the Max ML in .25 or maybe .22. I believe these are the best of all pellet sizes. The velocities and FPE of both the .22 and .25 are a perfect match for the needs of any airgun hunter. Anything below or over these two calibers is a little extreme. Overall, this was a very informative airgun review. Cheers

I've been looking at this gun and it looks very cool and very expensive. I already have the Evanix Tactical Sniper rifle the long one not the Carbine and that is one powerful gun. Mine is .357 too and some of the airgun hunters have brought down some medium size prey with that rifle. One feller was killing stuff at 85 yards with my rifle, through one shoulder blade and out the other. If you want the extra power get the Evanix tactical a pretty serious rifle.

Don't be too quick to give up on the 50 yard plus potential for the Max ML. There's another airgun reviewer who produced some very respectable 50 yard groups using round ball ammo with this model rifle. I was impressed enough to order one in .45 cal.Can't wait to see how she performs.

Kevin LaRose - I will give it another shot when I get home. I've been very impressed with how round ball ammo works in the big bore airguns. My Evanix .45 loves .454 round ball out to 50 yards. From what I've found, it's really important to find the right diameter to match the bore. Cheers AGW

I think it would be beneficial for this gun to be using heavier cast bullets. But by the sounds of it evanix hasn't quite got the perfect balance of valve spring tension and hammer spring tension. That should flatten out the shot string possibly even increase the shot count. Just my 2c

Oh dear, we're back to the heavy metal intro again. Nice rifle though. Very quiet for a big bore air rifle, and I think this is worth mentioning. Is it regulated?

Hey Rick. Have you ever shot or tested the .50 cal Max-ML. I can't find a lot on the .50 in this model. Would love to have one for hunting in thick swampland where I can only see about 30-40 yards at the most. Thanks

Interesting you should mention the X2.. I happen to have an X2K suppressor here in the studio.. I have a review that will launch tomorrow on that gun. It's VERY nice. I'm not sure I can help about the import issues however. Other than forward your request over to PA and let them know there's interest in the additional products. Cheers, AGW

Your 50Y group looks interesting. I was thinking that maybe you're filling a tad too much as your first two were a bit high and then your remaining three were very close together. Maybe try 5 shots with a bit lower fill pressure?
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 10 жыл бұрын
Hey there John, I agree the 50Y group was not really that bad. There's potential there for sure and more testing to be done. I would like to get more energy and more consistency out of the first mag.. We'll see if there are any ways to make that happen :) Cheers, AGW

Would this be viable for self-defense? Just curious as to how useful it would be in that regard.
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 9 жыл бұрын
Illuminati Just - generally I discourage any sort of discussion about airguns being used for self defense.. but it's hard to deny the power that this gun produces. My concerns would be reliability issues. You want something that's 100% reliable for self defense. It's why I gave my wife a revolver vs an automatic for example. Fewer shots, but fewer moving parts and it will never jam. Airguns can leak, jam, or have other issues regarding dependability which would be my primary concern. Cheers AGW

Which is better for quality, power, accuracy, durability... Evanix Max ML or Benjamin Bulldog? I hate the look of the Benjamin and love the look of the Evanix But I cant make my decision based on looks.
@AirGunWeb

Bulldog has more power. but that's about it. I have a Max ML in .35 and it's simply awesome. Better accuracy, more consistent shot curve. Just a much better gun in my opinion. Cheers AGW

Jake.. as a note, you can run the calculations backwards. Here's a link to an article at Pyramydair that has both calculators on it: www.pyramydair.com/article/What_is_Muzzle_Energy_August_2003/5 But for those that want to know FPS for the JSB pellets - average was 675.3 - 82.06 FPE. Cheers AGW

I would expect a better grouping at 50 yds since it is a big bore.
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 10 жыл бұрын
If only that were true. Most of the big bore guns that I've been testing lately top out at 35 to 40 yards. Getting 1" 50 yard accuracy is a lot tougher than you may think. One thing to consider... the game that you'd be shooting with this gun is not small game. It's predators or medium sized game. The kill zone on these is much larger, say 3" to 4". So while this is not a "tack driver" at 50 yards, it will most likely still be very effective in the field. It's better suited up close as I mentioned in the video. Cheers. AGW

1" accuracy at 50 yds????? I assumed that a heavy weight pellet would have a more consistent trayectory being less affected by the wind, getting in consequence thighter groups. Thanks for your answer Rick, I follow your work with great interest. Regards from Mexico. (sorry if my english is not as good as it should be).

Buy an FX, Steyr, Weihrauch or Daystate and practice off a rest. Control your breathing and get used to seeing your pulse moving the reticle when you've cranked your scope up to 24x! It's all about practice, patience, and a decent rifle.

@redneckbennett1973 10 жыл бұрын
Tasmedic I've got a daystate and am on 32power. And since I'm practicing for field target I only use the bench to sight in. But after your comments I might try some more bench shooting.
@tasmedic
@tasmedic 10 жыл бұрын
Shooting off a rest removes a lot of the other variables, and enables you to concentrate on extreme accuracy and mental focus. Then, try to take that to the field and get yourself in a similar frame of mind. You'll need to do a lot of 3 position practice as well, to get good at field target. I'm hopeless at it, but am a reasonable hunter.

tasmedic since i'm disabled i get in more practice than actual hunting. And i practice shooting off sticks sitting on my stool,from what ive read up on field targets i can shoot hunters class.Not as competitive but enough for me.It gives me something to do besides sit around.And if field target folks are anything like those who attend the Extream Benchrest compition i'll get plenty of help.Surely better than video games.

Evanix is way overpriced. Its over $2000 for this gun with sub par accuracy. I would definately go for an FX bobcat or something with more to offer in precision, and air cyclinder capacity.
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 10 жыл бұрын
Jeffery.. I'm not sure where you are getting your numbers. The MAX ML is around $1300 at Pyramydair (current pricing as of January 2015), which is hundreds less than an equivalent FX. As I mentioned in the video, if long range precision is what you are after, then the MAX ML is NOT the airgun you are looking for. However, if you want to put 80 FPE on predators or other suitable game inside 30 yards, it's a great option, especially if you are hunting in a lot of brush, which is where I find myself when I hunt out in Texas. Cheers AGW
@jamesgaszak3685
@jamesgaszak3685 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the clarification. I was looking at the Evanix max with the battery pack which gives it a semi auto I guess. But even for $1300 In this class at 750 FPS I would still rather get more bang for my buck with the hatsan carnivore big bore .357 which is $550 less and you still would have money to buy a couple extra air cylinders to take into the field. Granted the Bullpup is shorter. Either way keep up the great reviews Rick.
