Love the Calftones... I’m using a 20” EMAD Calftone batter and an EQ4 Calftone reso w/ a felt strip (no pillow, no porthole). 12” and 15” Calftone top / clear G1 bottom. 13x7 snare with Calftone top/ Hazy 300 bottom. Really great, rich, warm sound. You can’t beat the EMAD, it’s just so easy to get it sounding great. And don’t let the 7mil tom batters scare you, that’s the thickness before they put the fiber coating on - so the tom heads sound open, but slightly darker/warmer than say a coated G1. The feel is fantastic, very natural. So far, they’ve worn very well: some slight bubbles on the snare after a LOT of use, toms and bass still look new after months of regular play.

What reso side heads are used in this video on the toms and bass?
@Catinthehackmatrix2 жыл бұрын
Probaly the same head, the non emad one, for the reso, it is advertised as using it on both sides for bass drum.

+evansdrumheads *The new CT's look ideal for jazz and classical.* Wonder whether a "no-emblem" BD22CT is in the works for doing the sort of artwork once common with the steerhides used on pre-WWII Ludwig & Ludwig and competitive kicks?

Great look and sound. You can almost get this sound by putting a wool sock on your bass pedal beater.

Next time please add a) burying the beater into the head and b) 1/2 buried / 1/2 bounced. Also do all three types of hits from soft to loud. All of the above with different beaters.

I've heard that these have bubbling issues the same as Remo Fiberskyns. If that's true I guess I'll be sticking with Aquarian Modern Vintage.

should've tuned the emad to the same as the others. Emads' sound incredible up high; there's no other bass head with more high-end clarity

Looks like bass could use a Dixson Lift
@publiusPolis6 жыл бұрын
The drum has greater resonance when struck off-center. With a lift, the sound will become less resonant with more "attack" and less "depth". This is a personal preference and can vary depending on the kind of music being played.

Probably worth linking to each demo in the description.
@austinchoatedrums7 жыл бұрын
I did. I wouldn't consider three hits per head a solo demonstration. Something more along the lines of what Memphis Drum Shop does would help understand the full dynamic range of these heads.

You are not hitting the center of the bass drum, center your pedal than you can feel the difference.
@richieluckenbill15902 жыл бұрын
Doesn't always have to be centered..... ALOT of people play off-center especially if you want less focus and more tone.
@theicnot7 жыл бұрын
beater hitting that high? Give me a break,,,,
@arthurazoubel53447 жыл бұрын
For a jazzy/vintage and more resonant sound, this is the "go to" option. Beater hitting the center would give you more punch, but a dead and kinda muffled sound. I agree with you, however, that for the purpose of this video, a beater centered would give us a better idea of the actual sound of the heads
@theicnot7 жыл бұрын
Too much off center on 18" and smaller bass drums would result only in somewhat awkward "boink". Putting a lift would do. However, the bass drum lift would greatly help here. On the other side, I have not seen "The Bass Drum Head/Sound Police Force" yet, one that would lock up people for not applying "the rightest" solution for the bass sound,,,,All is good if you want that sound or any other
@leerobertsiv447 Жыл бұрын
Never understood tuning your bass drum so high it sounds like a floor tom. It's not a bass drum anymore, just a horizontal floor tom. Defeats the purpose of the word "bass".
@richardwilliams13102 жыл бұрын
The last head sounded horrible, too much boing, lol. Other 2 are pretty good. Thanks for the demo
