Changing the EVAP solenoid valve (tank breather or purge valve) in a 2002 to 2009 Volkswagen Polo Mk4 9N with the 1.4 litre, 4-cylinder engine. The purge valve is part of the vehicle Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system which prevents fuel vapours in the fuel tank from escaping into the atmosphere. The EVAP system traps fuel vapours from the fuel tank and temporarily stores them in a charcoal canister. The tank breather valve is an electrically-operated solenoid, which is controlled by the ECM. When the engine is off, the purge valve is closed. When the engine is running and warmed up, the ECM pulses the purge valve open. The most common problem with the purge valve is when it sticks or does not fully close which may cause these symptoms:
Valve Stuck closed:
Engine light on
High exhaust emissions
Poor fuel economy
Petrol smell
Evap code P0496, P0497
Valve Stuck open:
Check engine light
Vacuum leak
Rough idle
Reduced fuel economy
Difficulty starting car after filling up
High exhaust emissions
Other fault codes could be P0440, P0441, P0443, P0444, P0445, P0446, P0447, P0448 or P0449

Where does the plug in the car’s electricity come from? Is it a continuous or intermittent current from the car’s sprinklers?

​@Mandla-Mathebula if the car is left in hot weather for too long, it can cause starting issues and the valve needs to be changed.

Hi Bro I got p0322, P0130 and P0420 code. What is the problem? My car does not exceed 3000 rpm. There are minor stutters and rev fluctuations. The car accelerates slowly. There is difficulty in traction.Sometimes the engine stalls while driving. Sametimes it stalls while gear in neutral. Please help me.

The P0322 code suggests a crankshaft sensor fault, the P1030 code an O2 sensor fault and the P0420 code a problem with the Catalytic converter. The symptoms sound like a faulty crankshaft sensor which could possibly be causing the O2 sensor and CAT codes. I would replace the crankshaft sensor first and see if that fixes the other issues
