I just started playing Eve 2 weeks ago, I've searched lots of guides on KZbin and there's so many content creators for this game who fail to explain things properly. Finally i found your channel and have been learning a lot from your videos, you have a good way of explaining things as you go, without chopping and changing topics going off on tangents etc.. This guide came at a perfect time for me as i just started low sec mining and got ganked a couple of times in the last few days, after taking your advice i survived 3 ganks already! Thank you for making content that everyone can learn from especially newer players who otherwise might become frustrated and quit before understanding how the game works. I am looking forward to more content like this, and if possible I'd love a guide to gas mining as that will be my next endeavor, currently saving ISK for the skillbook and equipment but have no idea where to go, what to do, what ship i need to get and fit for scanning and scouting etc. Thanks again. I do this sort of thing myself. It took me a while to gradually realize the things you went over. I wish I would have someone tell me this earlier. Its good that you put this out. I have been in fleets that got ganked and mine is always left standing. Of course Procurer and Skiff get some serious tank and Porpoise too which is a fun ship to run economy fleets. I don't worry about yield 1st..first module on any ship is damage control II IMHO it is the best bang for the buck module you can fit for survival. Love all your vids but the best thing is hello in local. Logan

I have D-scan set up as the spacebar. no mouse click needed. It doesn't just activate "Scan", it actually opens the D-scan window as well. Huge click saver. I have a similar setup with probe scan adjustments: comma and period for increase/decrease probe size, respectively, and "m" to activate the Scan. Super-quick. Thanks. Love your content!

I’ve found that a ship fitted with more tank survives and mines more than a ship fitted for yield does. Basically the harder you are to kill the fewer people will even try to take you on. IGN: Rhone Gogh

Also seperate the chats, So the local is not in the same group of chats as the corp, alliance and so on. make sure to click on the local chat on: memberlist settings (The two human icons) And activate there the show compact memberlist = checked Arange it as you want, i found the setup to have local left besides my normal group as perfect also with photon ui you can adjust the size as you want, if you use the non beta version you can just move the chat group as you want over it. I hope it is somehow clear what i meant. This allows to chat and still have local visually and its a must have in ls/null but wont hurt to see spikes of nutrals and gtfo.

I do max my mini g drones with one Hob II and I don't use crystals. It works for me with 4.5 mil per hour with max skills for Retriever while I am doing life and stopping in every 3 or 4 minutes. Been looking forward to a new video for a while now. I've two D-scan filters, one that has everything minus celestials and wrecks, and another that has only ships and probes in case the first one is too cluttered. But that clutter can make me a fair amount of isk by just paying attention to my D-scan, amazing how people will just leave their faction drones lying about. The colored background for anything pilot based on their standing to you is also really useful, my life got so much easier once I got that set up. IGN: Tension Travis

I think, with a bit of tank and watching d-scan and local, that's a lot. But what I do is I go for maneuverability and one of those warp stabilisers instead of having a lot of tank, you still want some tank but if you get scramed then there's practically nothing you can when they start shooting except try and break that scram. Problem with a warp core stabiliser is having to get into warp before it cycles and hope a couple of Cats don't have scrams on you. I think once they are on grid with you things are going to be tough, flight or tank it till it stops are the only two options at that point, take your choice and cross your fingers. The ideal is to not be there to lock. :) The Venture and Expedition frigates should be working on getting off grid though as per the low sec mining vids.o7

New player perspecive: must admit i felt very underwhelmed unlocking the mining barges. Slow moving, 50 mill just for the ship & even training it into better miners really didnt increase mining speed/yield much, at least not to a notable rate for high sec solo ice mining (and ore felt just pointless). Yes the ship is more tank-y but this only really helps against rats i find. I lasted about 10 mins tops trying to go into into low sec with a mining barge. Hint: if you use a mining barge, always make sure to do it in a fleet, not just for the mining speed & compress buffs, but also as so you are usually the smallest target & manage to slip away. Any ship that jumps in that isnt a mining ship is a sign to warp out instantly. Infact the smaller & more harmlss it looks like a "free velator" or similar just means its most likely going to suiside gank you. Mining Expedion Frigates: Now this surpriced me. I was very confused why these 2 frigates was so hard to train into as it was a LOT harder & timeconsuming to train into with their own miners/scoops etc. I had done a bit of ninja gas huffing in a venture that was nice but clearly limited in hold, speed etc. Also the Endurance only having a single hardpoint made it seem completely pointless (on paper). Basicly only trained into the expedition frigates because i felt i skipped a step up to the mining barges. Anyways i jumped into a wormhole & found a gas site where someone else had politly been already & cleared out the sleepers. So i turned on my lvl2 scoops on my Prospect & nearly fell off my chair when it reported 450k isk every 30 seconds (nearly 1 mill isk a min depending on prices). I mean that single houl was ablout 45 mill isk from 1 hour just sitting at the gas site. Not bad for a fast cheap 17 mill ship with cloaking abilities. Certainly some quite notable build in buffs on those 2 ships that you shouldnt ignore, lol. Frigates is clearly ment for a more adventures playstyle but still. Mining barges really could use a price nerf.

If you can get someone in an Porpoise or Orca to boost you, it can nearly double your income per hour mining. Mining boosts are essential if you want to make your barges pay off. Just have to find a real corp that does fleets.

Nice vid, thanks! A few thoughts: 1. i don't understand why ccp don't want to implement an "auto-scan" option for Dscan. Like, autoscan every 1-5-10-30-60 seconds, or something like that. 2. these ideas are very good for small ships, like Venture, but with big ones the only realistic option is to mine aligned to something. Even at bookmarks. Only a cloaked ship can get close and warp-disrupt you then, but that would a be long shot. 3. you are right about the HS being lonely. I tried a few times to run a public mining fleet (with boosts) and everyone was super-shy to join. Not to mention the undercover Code alts. 4. short story about Code, Safety and friends: recently a friend was mining in a Venture (for fun), it was him and a Procurer in a 0,9 belt. An Atron landed in the middle, stood there for about 30 seconds then warped out. He was a Safety alt with a passive scanner, looking to know how the mining ships were fitted. Imagine that, how far the gankers can go :) Maybe they can be called professional gankers...? :) 5. what was the ganking timer? like 20 seconds, before Concord shows up? Or was that nerfed too?

Re:1. I expect because CCP want active play over AFK. I'm not a fan of idea 1. Monitoring your surroundings is a key skill of the game, player failure to do this results in "content" for others.

I used to mine high-sec level 1 security missions out in systems way off the beaten path a LOT. Tons of ore and gankers have to actually scan you down. Last time I mined one was a year or so ago so I don't know if it's still possible but the best one I found was level 1 Unauthorized Military Presence. As long as you don't complete the mission you can farm it for a week and the belts respawn fully every day at downtime.

Mark and viewers, what are your thoughts on orbiting vs staying at range for PvE activities such as mining, and hacking? As I see it, a ship could possibly more reliably align and escape if standing still but may be more vulnerable to "stealthers" and "bumpers", whereas orbiting can make you harder to catch, but can increase escape time should you not be travelling in the right direction, or bash into colliders when aligning. I understand that "mining aligned" is a bit of a myth as you are only aligned when traveling at 75% of base velocity toward your destination, otherwise, you are taking your full rounded up align time as shown in the fitting tool to escape. Do factors such as the align time of your ship dictate your tactics?

As you sat there is a balance. In a Venture of exploration frigate i would normally keep moving. In a Barge you can sit so can avoid the risk of snagging. An other technique is to keep you barge aligned an moving towards various warp to points so you are at about 50% speed most of the time and only have to accelerate to 75 to get out. You can cruise slower and this method need constant attention to keep you in range for the mining.

Orbiting is generally better since it makes you a more slippery target. If you're still, a ganker is practically guaranteed to one shot you whereas if you're moving, you might be able to get away with a glancing blow, giving you precious seconds to escape

Finally! Got rid of the Control Towers! They are so annoying in some systems where there are dozens in the systems, in d-scan range of an escalation or mission poket. I'm pretty sure I tried to do a right click on the d-scan window to remove them and was not able. Did they finally added the feature with Photon UI ?

Best tip is defenatly to get out of caldari space and into somewhere more quiet. If you're vigilant and there is hardly anyone else in system, you might get away with a full yield covetor jetcan mining. Ign: Jason Hodges

He will be back. I had a lack of time over the summer. You are right though Amarr space does have some disadvantages for my play style though. I have trained through the Cap limitation but the escalations are not Alpha friendly at all.

If you have tanked your mining ship, surely all you are doing is making the inevitable kill take longer than it would if not. If you have been warp inihibited - you're not going anywhere whether it takes 2 mins or 20 mins. Am I missing something?

This is primarily about avoiding highsec ganks, where the gankers have to kill you before Concord (police) arrive. If you can survive that long, then concord will kill the gankers and you can go home safe. Concord response time depends on the sec status of the system, i.e it will take longer for them to arrive in a 0.5 than a 1.0

If you are in low sec however, you're absolutely right. There are no police so it will just delay the inevitable. Mining in lowsec is always risky business, but gas harvesting is very worth it if you're into that

Lately, I've mostly been mining in wormholes when I do mine, which isn't often anymore. I got killed so quick while scanning down sites in wh, but I've been fine when mining for some reason. Maybe it was just bad luck and wrong place wrong time. IGN: Jae Ablem
