I love Eve. I've played it off and on for more than 10 years at this point. I've been a Miner, a Hauler, a pirate, a spy, a bounty hunter, a con man, an Industrialist, an Explorer, a Gas Huffer and a bunch of stuff that would make the list so long I could write for a full day and not be done. Mostly....I've been a A hole to everyone that was an A hole to me first. I've even been an A hole to the people that haven't been an A hole to me yet because I know at some point, they will be. It's an amazing game where literally everyone is both your friend and you enemy at the same time. They'll kill you and if asked, most will tell you how they killed you and how to avoid being killed by them in the future. They'll bring you into their Corp. as a new player and kick you out to make room for a more experienced player when War breaks out. They'll teach you how to set up a in game money factory to pay for your account passively and then switch accounts and pirate your ass to pay for their alt account. Eve is the most massively fun troll game I have ever played. I wouldn't change a thing about it other than the cost in real money to subscribe if you go that route. Nothing beats Eve for making you so happy to be angry at everything about it.

Been in EVE since 2003 and the best thing you need to know going into it is that EVE is a *social game*. Find a nullsec corp, join them and that'll take you to unexpected experiences in EVE. Don't think of it like traditional MMOs because it really isn't. If you play it alone, you won't have any fun. It also has the potential to change your life. I've now had lifelong friends from EVE for decades now where we've been to each other's weddings and so on. Its a hell of a thing.

Eve is unique in that it is so old and has so much legacy, there are literally infinite ways to play it. Your first few hundred hours might be spent doing the "prescribed" activities like mining, running missions, hacking etc. At some point, you discover that you can get off the beaten path and your own personal ingenuity is allowed to shine through. I have never experienced anything like that in any other game, and having played Eve since 2005 I still discover new ways to play even now.

So, as someone who has played Eve for possibly thousands of hours at this point, here's a couple of things you should know: 1. Yes, Eve has a LOT of menus, and it can get confusing, but no... 2. It is NOT usually a slow game. It does absolutely depend on what you are doing, but activities such as PvP and more advanced PvE can be very fast-paced and sometimes pretty stressful. 3. Eve is the perfect example of a game with a high skill ceiling. You could spend all day mining in a venture doing basically nothing after day one, or you could at basically the point in progression be completing Abyssal filaments in a combat frigate, on the edge of your seat. 4. Eve has a solid community. It may not be as big as some other popular MMOs, but all the players in the community are really dedicated. Which leads into... 5. Eve is one of those MMOs where you are cheating yourself if you don't engage with the other players. Many forms of content are designed around/ require other players, and it is a massive part of the game Hopefully that helps, or maybe you already knew all that lol 😂

I used to run a small mining/mission corp with some friends and was very active, however, the last few years I've had two kids and lots of other changes. So it's fun for me when I get to log on and run some missions and mess with fittings and do some PI and industry. I know that's not for everyone, but I don't have the time to dedicate to pvp and that's ok. Eve has lots to offer me and my lack of time to play.

Been playing EVE Online since 2013. If you're at all interested in the game I suggest you download it and give it a try. It's a beautiful game that has so much to offer. If you ever feel lost they have an in game chat room for rookie pilots that you can ask any question and a seasoned player will know the answer. Occasionally you'll see some devs in the rookie help chat answering questions too. It's easy to feel intimidated by such an expansive and complicated game but don't be. They have done an excellent job revamping their tutorial so you'll have no problem understanding the basics and getting your feet off the ground. Try the game out on an Alpha account first then decide later if you want to upgrade to Omega. One thing the video didn't cover is that you can pay for an Omega account with in game currency. Once you get good enough ;)

1.0 - 0.5 is highsec, which means if someone shoots you, they will die to an npc organization called concord. 0.4 - 0.1 is low sec, which has gate guns and doesn't allow things like anti-warp bubbles, but no concord. 0.0 to -1.0 is nullsec, which is where anything goes, and there's no concord or gate guns to provide safety. This space is divided up between npc null, player null (have your own space,) wormhole space, and pachven (which is more or less a special npc nullsec.)
@BullDogBreed753 ай бұрын
Important to note, the NPC police (Concord) are a punishment NOT a preventative. It is still possible to be killed in High sec space, it's just that the people who kill you will get destroyed by the NPC's.... this is a tactic used against those who AFK pilot ships with (usually) a valuable cargo, that is then scooped up by the gankers' alts/ friends. No-where in EVE is truly "safe" except the inside of an NPC station, once you are undocked you are a potential victim.... how easy a victim you are depends on how much attention you pay, and your willingness to do what is required to survive. EVE treats the players like adults, and that's the reason it's just so damn good.

As for the motion sickness - yes, you can get some, if you have a corresponding health condition. That said, you can severely reduce the impact, by altering your view angle, viewing distance, not tracking your targets while on the move etc... Having an issue myself, I was very lucky to find out you can setup your screen in a way that hardly triggers the condition. Might take a while to learn how to do that, but otherwise - pretty much the only 3D game I can currently handle for prolonged periods of time. So, here is the deal with EVE: It's massive, complex game, and playing solo is possible, but not as much fun. I play solo most of the time. I've been in null, wormholes and lowsec. Living in lowsec solo has been my favorite part. Now I'm running high sec DED sites for iskies and doing low pvp. Well.. so.. I have also been playtesting EVE Frontier and while I can't say anything much because of NDA, it's going to be really good as well, I think. It's different, but based on same mechanics, very familiar, just with different tactics and goals in mind. I dearly recommend EVE, but it's a game of commitment if you want to make it far. I play EVE casually - going around belts hunting for valuable tags, running high-value combat sites, manufacturing, exploration.. mostly things I can chill with. When I want a new ship, I just buy PLEX and sell it, and buy a ship. It's better than grinding for 10+ hours, because.. it does not cost THAT much. However, you will find yourself easily paying for subscription with ISK at ease. Making isk, is not hard at any point, but requires knowledge. Getting into the game is hard.Once you understand the basics, it's... I guess I could compare it to learning a programming language. Once you grasp how to do basic things, it goes on pretty fast (been playing on-off since 2018). However, it's been extremely rewarding journey. I learned many things I use in life nowadays. For example, I am running a reselling biz. Hit 4k$ sales this month.. I think EVE taught me a lot about business in a way. I learned to be somehow patient, and to try new things. It got me out of shell at times, and I have got to know a lot of people from EVE.

Been playing this game on and off for almost 16 years now. The sense of wonder and isolation as you step out into the world of EVE as a new player has never ceased. The more you discover, the larger the game becomes. I'm experienced enough now that I can join a corp (guild) and fire up any play style I want to....but there is still so much I don't know. I can play casual mining and indy, I can play hardcore PVP, I can play safely, but there is ALWAYS danger. They have mastered the balance of new and veteran players having an impact. It does not matter your skill level, you can contribute and participate. There is simply no game like it, and as long as you can hook into the right group when you step out of your new player bubble (after 200 hours possibly) the thrill never stops. Simply put, toss a week into getting set up and working through the tutorial and epic beginner story line mission. And then join one of the core newbie friendly corps to get a true taste of whatever play style you're interested in.

It is mainly a logistics market game. Gain materials or goods of worth and get them to a station or trade-hub where it sells, trying to maximize profit. Money/isk for these trades gets created by earning the bounty of killing NPC pirates, and gets destroyed through taxes, transaction fees, and industrial usage charges as goods trade hands or are manufactured. Large scale PVP mostly comes into play for the competition to control Null security space, while small scale pvp often revolves around ganking transports or camping choke points to pillage other's goods.

Hi Sec doesn’t guarantee a lack of fighting or risk. It just means that the aggressor will pay for the attack. That’s what a “gank” is; a player attacks you in hisec knowing they’ll lose their ship, but they are willing to pay that either for your loot (alt characters or friends) or just to do it. There are not safe places outside of an NPC station. The mantra is “don’t undock any ship you aren’t prepared to lose”. It’s an amazing game. I’m a 2003 player, but haven’t played in quite a while. I can honestly say that I’ve never felt the kind of rush you get from PvP in EVE in any other game. Total adrenaline. Do it! Just know that patience is required. And community is king. You can solo play EVE. But it is FAR better with the right group. It’s ideally a social game, that’s where the meat is.

Eve's community is unlike any other I have seen. The Eve Clear Skies movie is also worth a watch for those who haven't seen it. :) The game has a lot player based elements and systems that makes you feel part of it. There's a living economy, boosted by people that mine, people that trade covering supply and demand, people that go on missions and instances, and the people that see those as prey. There are factions and guilds of enormous sizes, organizing immense pvp raids and battles requiring logistics and planning. There are stories of people spending years building trust and getting access to guild resources only to take it all away in an act of treason. That said, I know it doesn't make a lot of sense being in a pod, but I would have loved a form of in-cockpit flight for the smallest ships with responsive controls, which in my opinion would enhance the feeling of chasing and dogfighting.

If you have any questions I'd be happy to help you, a lot of us are old and bitter that our favorite ship or thing to do isn't the best any more but it's overall a decent game with a ton of things to do. One tip is don't get stuck in highsec (0.5-1.0 security space) as there are plenty of opportunities in lowsec (0.1-0.4) or null (-1.0-0.0) where there are communities that have built up their own sections of space. There's a lot more activity and risk, but also significantly more profit and fun to be had. Plenty of pvp in those areas, but also plenty of pve activities to do even in smaller ships. And expect to lose your ship at any time, if you get into a bigger community they will have free ships and items for you to have so you don't need to work forever to be able to play the game.

Eve Online is an amazing game, but I am too mentally scarred to return to this game for at least a few more years. When I do go back I will definitely be avoiding the PVP rat race of "Corpo Wars in Space" and I will probably try to just focus on the the PVE/Lore Content in more hi-sec areas. In terms of Security you have: "High Sec" which is like starting zones or zones with heavy NPC presence. If players attack players here then NPCs will nuke the guilty. This is basically 1.0+ security. "Low Sec" which is little presence of NPCs for security. This is going to be your 0.1-0.9 security ranks. "Null Sec" is going to be the wild west and literally EVERYTHING is controlled by players and the rules are what they say they are. This is your 0.0 to -0.X+ areas. This can go all the way down to like -2.0 or so that I can remember. This is where you find warring alliances. If you want to play the game I would suggest that you just do all the lore content in your starting area and then proceed to some of the faction storylines like the Sisters of Eve, which was one of my favorite story arcs, and this is a very good source of making ISK (money) safely without getting pillaged by other players. Mining is AFK work. You could literally be on an asteroid belt for HOURS with a mining fleet of other players. This is usually a good way to make "lazy" money when you first get into the game. You might find a high to low sec corp who will pay you a decent price for the ore and you just drop it off in their barge when your cargo hold is full. OMEGA & PLEX: You can use ISK (In Game Currency) to buy PLEX (Cash Shop Currency) and You can buy OMEGA (Subscription) with PLEX. High Level players do not pay real world money to Sub their accounts. This is not difficult to do, and you can most certainly accomplish this is 6-12 months if you're focused on it.
@dmitryv39262 ай бұрын
Yes you can buy isk with money, and you can also buy plex (which you can use to get Omega account) with isk. So if you deeicate enough time and knowledge, you can pay for the game with in game earned currency.

I watched both your reaction videos to @ScottManley 's Fountain war and this one. You are basically right except for one thing: No matter how good or how skilled you are you WILL BE ganked if flying solo. Veterans say: "Don't fly what you cannot afford to lose." That is the bottom line. When a ship is destroyed half the modules and cargo drop as loot. The other half are gone forever. It makes combat high stakes. I play as an Industrialist as part of a major Null-security space bloc. I build the ships and modules used to make pvp fleets. Honestly, it is not for everyone. I spend most of my 'chill game time' mining. Mostly in a fleet. I multi-box a lot. If you're after the heart-pumping action then don't become a miner or Industrialist. I would recommend training hard on weapons and defenses and joining a mercenary group. They're fairly elitist and won't take just anyone. I also have alts that run new-player friendly corps that get you into the basics and set up. If you're in the game for pvp fights then join a null-security space Alliance and you'll learn the ropes. I can see if my corps are recruiting right now for when you're out of the tutorial system.

The experience in EVE Online does kind of live or die with the fact whether you find yourself a decent group to join - makes things also a lot easier on you, because you will have tons fo questions - and the game is very conversational when you're at that point :D Regarding your streaming-community question - there is, but streaming EVE has a loit of caveats since people will just kill you out of spite if they know where you are XD (there's a lot of steam sniping going on) So OpSec plays a big role in that (Operational security) with stramers bluring a lot of the screen to be safe from an easy-gank. If someone knows your charcter name everyone can find you anyway xD Ps. Any yeah, if you try it, don't get attached to pixels and don't fly anything yo can't afford to lose :)

If you haven't played EvE then you havent played an mmo, you've played ARPG's with other people. I started playin in 2003 and it has everything. The social aspect... You'll live on comms and have best friends you've never met in real life (we do that too, meetups aee a thing) but you get on everyday just to talk to. Otherwise it's figuring out what you enjoy doing and building your empire from there. You can literally play the game without flying a ship (other than to travel to a trade hub) if you are into the stock market etc.

Playing this game may cause dizziness, especially if you're running on fumes from the day. Your ship needs fuel, but let's be real, your brain needs a Red Bull (or five) to keep up.

Let me tell you how to find out if you'll like this game. Run the character missions as directed when you start the game. Note, you can get over 100 ships if you run ALL character missions from all four factions. When you get sick of character missions, run the Sisters of Eve Blood Stained Stars Epic Arc in the Epic Arc window of the Agency tab.

As someone who has been playing (with breaks) for a long time, the best advice i can give is.. Get out of highsec and join a nullsec corp alliance!! Nullsec alliances take good care of there newbro recruits with free ships, skillbooks, Ship replacement programs (get your money back) etc. Highsec is a recipe for a eve-burnout.
@BridgeFairy3 ай бұрын
you can still get access to some of the best ships in game as an alpha, most of those are faction ships and you would need to use faction / rare modules in some cases to make solid fits, so it can get expensive. But to be fair all you need is some t1 random crap to have fun and ton of groups fly cheap stuff cause its affordable and good ;) Unless they changed things, biggest reason to get ou of alpha acc is restrictions to some skills and a max skill points cap ;) Also, the game is slow until it's not, its mostly based on your chosen activity (sometimes its adrenaline fest non stop). You can even go for elite pve kill missions that are 1x1 vs npc ship. To kill those you need either very good skills/good ship fit or a bit weaker setup but play it as if it were pvp duel and hope you wont fuck up xD Anyhow, it's eve plenty shit to do and nothing to do at the same time always. (other than station spin). Also... Dont get tricked by security status ;/ High security systems are one of the most dangerous areas in Eve, if you fly something expensive of rare ppl will suicide gank you so take care xD

The game itself it quite nice, the problem is with politics and parts of the playerbase in the game. If you like to play in an environment where you can loose all your stuff to griefers be scammed etc. then it's absolutely worth a try, but you have to expect to meet some of the lowest scumbags humanity has to offer. The mechanics themselves are nice and if you can embrace a world where everyone is a potential enemy even if they act nicely at first, where you can get ganked (and loose a lot of time) without real repercussions for the players ganking you (attracts all types of assholes to the game) then go for it. You should have goals and you need to set them for youself, the game doesn't really give you any. But in return you have all freedoms. For example hunting said assholes, which is totally a viable thing to do. But don't mistake what you see on youtube for what you get in game, you usually get a summary of the action, noone tells you that you had to patiently wait for ages to get those 5 minutes of pvp action they show you. It's often dead boring. If you are into PvP I would suggest going towards 0.0 Space fast (where there are zero game mechanics preventing pvp), there are plenty of corps that will help you begin and you get the best income possibilities and get prepared for everything. If you are into PvE and don't like PvP I can't recommend it, you are always at risk to get dunked on by some asshat abusing game mechanics preventing you from defending yourself or even from taking revenge. Any attempt to enforce some safe space by the game is circumvented by "player ingenuity" so in my opinion it's best just embrace it and go to the place where there are no rules (0.0 Space) imediately. Fair fights are noones goal here, just like in real life.

"How conversational is this game?" it depends. You can be as social as you want to be. I sat on coms today with 150 people and we were talking about warhammer 40k while doing our thing. You can also do solo stuff and not talk to anyone.

Ship fittings are purchased using ISK (interstellar kredits, the in game currency) you can earn ISK by doing things in game or selling PLEX which you can purchase for real money. i suggest waiting to buy PLEX until you get a better grasp of how to earn money in the game. becoming a PLEXer (someone who funds their playstyle using plex) is a slippery slope.

There are some gfx elements that can cause you motion sickness issues - related to warping (bobbing effects), however they can be turned off in the settings menu. They look awesome at first, but after your 200th warp jump in an hour - they get very tiresome. The game is frame locked to about 60 fps by default, although you can switch this off - it doesnt make much sense, as the built in "lag" means microsecond response times make no difference. Unlocking the frame rate will also max out your GPU, so lots of fan noise and double/triple (or more) the power used - for no real benefit; my GPU runs the game without even firing up the fans, and my entire system draws less than 200 watts most of the time (weirdly, being docked inside stations pulls more power - 220-250 watts).

alpha is free to play, omega is pay to play. think of alpha as an indefinite free trial. you can fly frigates, destroyers, cruisers, battlecruisers, and battleships, and use most modules. If you want to use all the "fun" toys such as tech 2 or 3 ships (which are basically more specialized ships, like a frigate interceptor, or frigate e-war, recon cruiser, assault cruiser, and etc), as well as capital class ships.

Did you try it? How do you like it? Learning curve is steep, but once you get beyond a certain point, things are easier to understand and the game is 1000x more enjoyable. Been playing off and on since 2004. It's a way different game than it was 20 years ago, but it's still very much worth your time. Just don't listen to bitter vets. There is still plenty of activities a newbro can do, and yes 1 newbro can absolutely tip the scales in a big fight.

After playing Eve Online for 14 years as a paying customer I gave up on the belief that they would ever equally support every Occupation in the game. The only occupation the devs have consistently supported are the griefers which are a legitimate game play style in Eve Online. The devs made it possible for a fully equiped 6 million credit destroyer to take down a 150 million credit mining barge in 30 seconds or less which is faster then the response time of the empire police. But what led to my refusal to give them another dime was when they added pirate strongholds to the game bringing 0.0 npc pirates into empire safe zones that will hunt down anyone with negative standing over multiple systems. I was I believe 5 systems away from where the stronghold materialized when they hunted me down. I protested because I had not been in 0.0 space in over 10 years and my standing should have reset by then. CCP gave me the middle finger and denied my request for reimbursment of the close to 1 billion credits worth of implants I had in my clone at the time because I could handle any player threat and all npc threats that normally present themselves in a 0.6 system that I was in at the time. I became convinced that the CCP devs are all sadists that are not happy unless they can make as many people miserable as they can everyday!

...Sounds like someone forgot that Pods enter warp instantly. If you're on your toes, losing a pod in HS and even LS will only happen against Smartbombing. And while LS Smartbombing is pretty common, gankers using them to grab pods in HS is actually pretty damn rare... And I'm not so sure Devs 'support' gankers/griefers. They wouldn't have limited their activities to Omega Clone status only then. That said, you aren't wrong that said gameplay is encouraged. But there's also a huge misconception within that. What encourages gankers and griefers the most isn't CCP or abilities of certain ships - it's the vast number of careless players that fly expensive stuff that can be looted off of them. Most ganks are purely profit driven, so flying cheap is a great way to avoid most of them. The other bigger portion is ganks for Area Denial. Mostly used to monopolize Ice Belts in certain regions, but not limited to that. So knowing your locals alone can go a great way in protecting your assets. As for the Diamond Rats - I honestly haven't found them to be a problem. Unlike the regular rats, you can actually see them on D-scan. Meaning - you can quickly and easily tell if a system is unsuitable for mining, and can relocate to another one. OR, as was intended, the local miners actually have to deal with the pirate stronghold, to protect their mining operations. HS pirate FOBs aren't really that tough, and can even be Soloed with the right ship/fit. And they crumble easily to a small group of players.

I play EVE and have been for 20 years. I don't know what I'm doing but I do know to enjoy the game you should find an active corp that won't force you into a constant grind. ie; Corps that advertise mining, missions, etc - unless that is your jam. The best content is in PVP. So find a PVP corp / alliance that can help you.

I've only seen two of your videos so far with both being about Eve. Trying to gain an understanding of the whole game will take you months or even years. Decide on something you would like to do (highly recommend anything that involves combat) and start of small. Just play the game and try to understand the basics. Start off small and talk to people, your story will write itself. Personally, never been a fan of the massive wars in null sec and always worked in small gangs or solo. There are many ways to accumulate wealth.

@euteo3 ай бұрын
You don't lose everything, you lose what you are flying. And depending on the way you die, you might be able to actually recover it partially. But the rule of thumb is don't fly what you can't afford to lose. For example there are solo activities that can be done with dirt cheap ships that can earn you 30x the value of the ship/hour (example, wormhole exploration site - can be done without paying for the game, in a 3Milion Isk ship - and the averege site will give you ~20milion Isk loot, and you can get lucky and strike gold for a 100+ milion ISK site from time to time. If you lose it, after doing 3-4 sites and cashing in, no biggie.
