To me, the main thing people should know about this game are two things: 1) It is a sandbox game, it is not like your average MMO. You have to make your own fun, set goals, seek out content. 2) Everything in the game is player driven. Community is key. And of course the golden rule: Never fly what you cannot afford to lose.

My fear is that it will fail at some point/ there won't be any support or community eventually. which makes me not want to invest the time. it is being advertised to me constantly as I am a Mac user. This was the most concise best review I have seen by far. You make great points, and ones that further cement the "unfun" factor for me as a gamer. This game has as much appeal as a dungeons and dragons game with state prison inmates (it actually happens, i speak from personal knowledge).

@@CapnCrunchESO a good first step to this game is picking one facet that you want to learn, look at videos on it, do missions that teach it and even reach out and talk to someone in game who would be willing to explain some of the tricks of the trade. Easy and cheap first steps are things like mining (especially when considering the skills needed to do these tasks - lower time requirement).

One thing I feel you glossed over is how you are not safe anywhere in space. The space police will destroy other players ships if they attack you for no reason but they may not arrive in time to save your ship. So, by all means, chill out mining in high-security space but never, ever presume you are safe. There is a large percentage of players who take great fun from destroying mining ships. And please don't watch Netflix whilst mining, you are a sitting duck. The example I've used applies to whatever you are doing in Eve, you are NEVER safe. That's what makes the game so intense. Great video nevertheless, I wish you luck o7.

I'm thinking about coming back. I got busy last October after playing for about 6 months. I found the best way to make casual friends was to join mining groups. Eventually you'll find cool folks that are all hanging out chatting about news, world events, movies and tv, whatever. Meanwhile you can mine like madman because good groups will almost always have some defense for the group. I joined a corp at one point but really didn't like to be bugged by people to get more involved. If you're a hard working adult then it's a tricky game because of how much time you'll spend without realizing it. Especially planning ship fits and future fits. I really enjoy it but sheeez it's involved.

Me, it's been ages since I played but I like what they've done with the place. Yet I see that Jita remains the central trade hub. Loved Eve. It's a true MMO. But I'm a classic Bartle-type socializer and when my friends left... Unlike you I don't like spending hours relaxing on my own in a game world. But that's just me. I've played since 2009 and wanted to add context to 2 of the cash shop things. 1. For most of the game's life, you couldn't buy skill points at all. The in game timer to train skills was originally designed *without* microtransactions in mind. The reason for this is that it forced players to specialize to some extent. You can't do everything, and are forced to work with other players in one way or another. You can still play solo, but you still have to buy things from other players. 2. The ability to purchase in game money with IRL money was actually originally introduced to combat real money trading, and to somewhat equalize the advantage of having multiple accounts. As an example, if you're really good at the game and make tons of money, you're able to buy plex from another player, which then pays for your subscription. Eve literally allows you to pay for the monthly fee with in game money, by letting someone else pay it for you(in exchange for in game money). So while it seems initially pay to win(and it kind of is), it actually goes the other way where people who are good at the game can get multiple accounts for free. Also people who spend IRL money to buy expensive ships usually lose them in a spectacular fashion, since they "jumped ahead" of the usual progression. Basically the monetization stuff is weirdly fair, and not at all pay to win.

most games: i played 200 hours, I did everything there was to do, hell even played the whole game several times! i completely mastered this game eve online: I feel like 200 hours is a good starting point also would disagree that "all of the good ships are locked behind omega": T2 ships tend to not really be better, instead often being very specialized ships with a single, specific role in mind; for just going "basic ship but stronger", the nafy/fleet issue ships and pirate ships are a safer bet, and those can be used without omega (though i'd advise against it as considering their price tag, you will often want T2 modules on them, ESPECIALLY guns, most of which alpha players cant access)

Eve is a terrible game and you should not play it. Why? 1. outdated mechanics 2. Terrible Server tick 3. Grinding isk takes way to long and is worse than working irl 4. Metal involves like 5 ships, if you skilled anything else you wont be able to play properly 5. Skillsystem is straight up bullshit, takes way to long to do anything worthwhile 6. Did I mention that pvp is terrible? Think about playing a game with atleast 2000ms, that's the eve experience I could go on about multiboxing being encouraged (holy fking shit) local existing, space to big for no reason etc.

@@babbaderbozz sry this post just tell me you dont know anything at all about EVE online. yes, the servers can be bit buggy sometimes, but the pvp system and the different ships in the game are extreamly well balanced. the ping only makes bit of a difference in grab face of the fight, meaning the start. anything else are just about using your modules properly witch dont require any sort of good ping at all. yes, getting skills to do anything for sure takes a long time, but even a 1 month old pilot in a t1 ship can turn the tide of a battle, and someone in a 30 mill t1 cruiser can easily take down someone in a 1.5 bill t3 cruiser. when it comes to pvp, i only have a select few ships i use, and thats how it should be done. really learn the ship you can fly, before starting getting into anything else. for any cruiser pvp i use a pilgrim or a curse in 90% of the fights, and a legion in the rest. for killing frigates i use my pacifier 95% of the time, and an assult frigate in the rest. have a select few other types of ships i use in some rare occasions aswell, but my ooint is that you dont need 100 mill SP in order to be an efficient pvp pilot and have funn with it. infact we have a guy in the corp that have over 300 mill SP and can fly more or less all ships in the game with almost perfect skills, but he is a clueless moron that cant kill anything on his own. regarding making isk, you have a bunch of people sitting in ventures in high sec mining veldspar. ofc it takes long time to earn isk. is all about what you make out of it, and how risk you willing to take, and where you live. im running 3 accounts, and if i sitt where i live out in NS and do merxocit mining, i make around 550 mill an hour, witch im quite happy with. you can also run t6 abyssal sites making you 500 mill an hour on 1 toon, but that for most part require a 5-6 bill gila and an experienced pilot, and you loose your ship if you mess up. carrier ratting in NS should make you around 200 mill an hour on a single toon, and if you into production theres ways to make you quite good isk thats kinda passive and aint require you to even be online for most parts

I've been playing Eve since its launch. Yes, I am that old! Granted I've taken years off from playing regularly. Eve is a game you are either going to live or hate. It's not a difficult game to just play. You can care bear around for decades if you feel like it. You can run a massive evil empire that is constantly at war. You can mine one particular type of asteroid for 5 years and do nothing else. You can fight only other players. You can fight only npc players. Eve truly is a sandbox more than any game I have ever played. I have always told people to just download the game and try it. It made it much easier when the f2p option rolled out.

Nice response to the game brought back a few memories and nightmares. The first few years are the most fun, not played for a decade, don't think I could take going back. My biggest issues was you had to pay to grind before you could start to play. The small pvp stuff was fun with friends but then you had to grind to be able to do that unless you wanted to pour money into the game. The majority of pvp ended up with gate camping which was boring like hanging around at street corners waiting for a fight, the large fleet battles were the closest I've felt to being in the borg... but then there was some really fun small fleet fights.

Playing this game since 2014. I used to be a miner, then switched to mission runner, then nullsec player, and eventually became a WH player. You can generate 3-4 billion ISK within 1-2 hours in wh. However, people still need to find a good way to spend the money. What is it? Yes, it's PvP. All activities eventually turn into PvP. EVE is fun, especially when built around PvP. Spending too much time in PvE without engaging in PvP may lead to losing enthusiasm for the game.

@@CapnCrunchESO Fleet battles are... something for sure. Problem is, you're basically in the passenger seat, with FC being the driver. You have little control of where things are going, making it very bad environment for actually learning PVP. They also come in different varieties - super boring with nothing happening, super nice with you getting a ton of kills, supper stressful when your side is taking a beating, or - my favorite as Logi - super fast with you getting volleyed off the field before anyone else... Other than that - the visuals can be breathtaking. If your PC can handle them, ofc... As for setting up a moon op... Yeah, maybe you want to join a moon owning Corp temporarily to learn more about what it takes to own/operate a moon rig... That stuff isn't for everyone, and definitely ill suited for a Solo player. For a small group of friends however - it can be a very nice medium term goal.

This is a very good video. You took the time to explain the game properly to people who never played it like myself. Now that I know this game is not free to play but demo to play except if we pay 20$ per month, i won't try it, but I still have questions anyway and the answer could help others wondering the same : 1. What happen when we die ? In the past, I heard we were losing our ship in this game but now, I heard you say you only lost credits when these 30 PKers got you after a gate. And I also heard it was taking forever to reach a destination. What do you lose when you die ? Is it just a little sum of money and you don't care or do you also lose many hours of gameplay ? 2. How often do you get PKed ? Is the community toxic ? It's an old game, many people are high lv. In general, do they help newbies or they just have fun killing them all ? 3. Almost the same as 2. : is this noob friendly ? Can a newbie find a guild or do they recruit only people with a ship high lv enough ? And do they actually help their newbies or ignore them ? 4. Has the game enough players to be enjoyable ? It's a very big universe. Do you cross real players on a VERY regular basis, like at least one every 5 min ? 5. I tried this game a couple years ago and I was stuck in the tutorial. I was doing what the tutorial was asking me to do but due to a bug, it wasn't working, so I uninstalled it. Have they change the tutorial ? You probably don't know the answer, but we never know... If you finished the tutorial, I guess they fixed it... Have you heard from other players they were unable to finish it ?

1. When you die your ship blows up and you get insurance payout in isk to replace some of it but it qpnt cover the whole loss, half of the stuff you die with drops as pvp loot. 2. Pvp is as often as you want, if you stay in highsec and dont go to lowsec, nullsec or wormholes you may never even see pvp. And yes most veteran players will help newbies and teach them. 3. There are hundreds of new player groups and some very big ones dedicated to only teaching people how to play and learn the game. 4. Yes there is lots of players, almost every single one of the 7000 systems in the game will have players in it, and you can see them with the local channel that shows who is in system. 5. Yss the tutorial is different and actually teaches you much better, I'm not sure when you played but the tutorial has changed about 3 or 4 times since I have started. On top of that there is also now called the AIR career program that is like a tutorial that continues after the tutorial. Also players dont have a level really, you train levels on skills that allow you to fly certain ships, but you don't want to fly the best of the best because you will eventually lose the ship. 20 year old players still fly ships that 5 day old characters fly because they are more cost effective for pvp if you end up losing. Give the game a chance again because it is very much free to play, everything alphas can do is quite a bit and if joining a group can do end game content as a free account once you train enough skills and learn enough knowledge of the game.

1: You loose your ship and everything inside. Some ships are special and it hurts loosing them, others are like ammunition so most people see it as loosing money if they loose ships ;) 2: ppl will likely shoot you if they can and know they can kill you. And as a new player you are a good target for people. I myself never kill new players. I just scram them, tell them some weird story why it's dangerous in this system and let them go. Sometimes I add a little 1million ISK fee as well for my fuel and time expenses. But a lot of people will just blow you up especially people that usually dont engage in pvp because it's too dangerous might see this as a chance to cope :P 3: most corporations are always looking for new players and are very helpful. Ofc some corps are just very inactive or scams so be a bit careful who you join ;) 4: In dense areas like highsec + faction war lowsec there are always a lot of ships flying around... But youn can find very empty regions of space as well most likely in nullsec where you can be for hours without seeing another ship :P 5: weird.

@nope.nope.3704
@nope.nope.3704 6 ай бұрын
@@CapnCrunchESO you mean like athanor? Moon mining only gives you good profit in some lowsec/nullsec regions(bc moon ore differs between regions), and all the good moons are already taken by big alliances for their own profit. Also, to make good profit you really need t2 rigs on station (which usually cost a fortune) and a big mining fleet with prospect/orca to be able to mine all the ore in time. So, good luck.
@mikspurins1455
@mikspurins1455 6 ай бұрын
@@nope.nope.3704 I agree that aiming to own a Moon is a bit of a overreach. Might work as a long term goal, not nearly something you should expect to reach short-term. I believe it would be best to break down the overall goal in multiple smaller steps - the last of which should be affordability. Firstly - finding a place for your rig. Namely, a system and moon with the safety/ore you're after. Owning just any old moon is rather... pointless. Secondly - learning all there is about structure protection. How war-decks work, how fueling/operating the structure itself happens... There's plenty of stuff to learn/achieve before actually anchoring the structure, and going through everything in order is very helpful. Maybe it deters you from making the investment upon you realizing the trouble it involves. Maybe on the contrary - it enforces your wish, and makes you learn much more of the game to make your dreams true. Either outcome is fine, as long as you're fully aware what the final result involves.

In Eve you can fly a ship, but to properly fly that ship it will take another 6 - 8 months to fully train the supporting skills, it's a long and skill intensive game, since they added Free to Play they have expanded the skill point buying options, long time back they said that would never happen, buying skill points. Now it's catering to the Fortnite/Steam/GTA crowd, if your wallet is big enough you can fly capital ships in little over a day, you have no idea how they work and what to do with them, but as long as you're paying to play they don't care, the sound and graphics have always been excellent, they have improved but were always the best. Is it just so I can buy things that with further increase my ISK/hr? :P Coming from something like WoW, I feel like the game needs a "big boss" or something. Like some kind of NPC evil that corporations can fight against or solo players can help defeat by building equipment. It'd need to be on par with something like the opening of the gates of Ahn'Qiraj. It'd need to be something so big that everyone in game is working to beat it together whether by mining minerals, finding rare blueprints, building ships, or actually flying out to fight it.

Check the description, it has a corp that is chill, doesn't need 8h a day and you can make lots of isk as a free player, community is good if you actually join a proper corp. Eve university is the best new player group, but there is tons of them that are not bad highsec mining corps.

@@umadbroimatroll7918 dude it was 8 years ago I dont have time for eve to grind right now, even more grind than before because so much content is added and every "pro" has a titan and tons of money

@@Garox97 every pro does not have a titan, they are useless and can easily die. Not only that they are not fun to fly. You have some misunderstanding of eve core fundamentals of gameplay, the bigger ships are not better, and everyone will lose whatever ship they fly eventually so they wont fly the best they can afford. And what do you even mean grind to get to content? This is not wow, new content does not make old content obsolete.

By titan I meant when I was playing those kind of ships, top "tier" ships were rare now probably most long term players have them and so much money so many ships ect. that i never gonna be abble to compete with those people, which make most of the player base, grind to get to content? that answers its self grind grind grind grind to get ships modules upgrades missions ect that people actually play, to get things that actually allow me to play which others most of the time when I tried eve there were almost non new players or 90% left after a week because not of the so called "hard to understand curve" but more because of grind and feeling of being alone, you see others ships, other players, they answer your questions on chat ect. but thats it, like i said before only two new randoms join me to play sometimes together because non one "long term player" would join me or us back than to actually help understand better the game just "take some noobs under the wing" to explain play together only what i saw was Corporations using new players for mining sit here for 1 month and mine for us yea we gonna give you some "guards" that it go mine after you made enough for next ship with modules so you gonna play maybe some pve nope no one gonna help kicked out of the corporation because you dont mine, you know flying solo all the time is boring or mining all the time is also boring, also I would get a ship that gonna be destroyed in seconds by some gate campers or just pirates in 10x better ship with 10x better modules than you and all skills its just that Eve is good game but to grindy and feeling of being alone all the time because no one cares to play with newbies thats why eve have low population 30k online players is not a lot where most of them are only "pro hardcore players"

@@Garox97 lol your so wrong, and if you dont want to believe because your too stubborn to play a free game go ahead 🤣 I dont care, i literally was just here correcting what you think about eve but is wrong. All the ships that top corps and alliances use are able to get skilled into within a week or so, and you wont need to grind as most alliances have welfare, you get given free ships and ship replacements. Your memories are 8 years old as you say so yourself, and the game has changed to have less isk grinding time, less skill grind, and easier to travel and find pvp. Not only that the community itself has changed also, much more friendly, against scammers, gankers, etc. I know 10 years ago it was very different, I played then and everyone wanted to be the next big scammer or get isk from ganking, now its very looked down upon in the community. And 30k at any given time, up to 50k at peaks is in the top 20 games played on steam if all players were there, so not dead by any means, and higher than many other mmos that are not considered dead or dying either.

Little correction: You don't do things "in" wormholes, and there's nothing "inside" wormholes. Wormholes are conduits like jump gates. The area of space reached via these wormholes is called "Anoikis", or more casually J-space.

Hi. 10 year vet here. Was part of groups such as Honorable Third Party, Black Legion and The Initiative. Haven't played since a bit into citadels but the one piece of advice I can give is.... This game is about the people you meet along the way. No other game has given the sense of community(both good and bad) that Eve does.

Do you have a guide how to configure your UI? I have seen a lot of videos with diferent windows opened, but as a new player I am using the default ones, and I am affraid that I will miss something because all windows are grouped together

Spreadsheets are optional at best. Sure, for people running multiple industry toons they seem mandatory, just to keep everything in check. But for casual Solo players like me - I never found myself a use for any. Most i use is in-game notepad for some scribbles, so I don't forget what I wanted to buy from market... If you like to skip the indy stuff and go straight for pew-pews - the notes/sheets become even less necessary. Although you could argue jotting down some notes/revelations after your fights might be helpful to learn faster - if you're already so determined, recording the fights is much more efficient.
