Loved this breakdown! I watched Eve's Bayou SO MANY TIMES and I JUST realized something... Remember Mozelle's premonition of the child getting hit by the train? That was actually a premonition of EVE during Louis' death scene. Mozelle was seeing EVE getting shoved out of the way of the bullet that killed Louis. Louis pushed Eve out of the way and it happened by the tracks as a TRAIN was passing. Trains symbolize transition (death) and the unfolding of DESTINY. Louis was predestined to "fall on his own sword" as Elzora said just before the premonition. They mistakenly thought the premonition Mozelle saw was the child that got hit by the BUS. But NO. It was a TRAIN and the child was EVE. Eve was wearing the same outfit in the premonition. So Louis' death was already foreshadowed in Mozelle's premonition before Eve even planned it. It was predestined. "The truth changes color depending on the light." Thanks for shedding new light (perspective) on this great film!

I told my parents about my r*pe and he looked me in my eye and said “you’re lying. You just went out and had sex because your sister had sex before you”. I was so hurt that my dad my supposedly protector didn’t give a damn that I went through that. He could have lost his daughter that night. I’m a survivor and God really protected me that night. Especially a lot of women haven’t been so blessed to make it out such events.i cry every time I hear about ppl disappearing and being r*pe and unalived afterwards. I was led to tell my truth and yes I wish my father would have believed me.

You broke this down so marvelously. I LOVE this movie so much. It's one of my favorites, too. My only correction is that when EVE placed her hands in her aunt's hands, and her aunt snatched back... she said "fine then keep your secrets. You dont want me to see." Or something like that. This was important because it showed EVE was so far advanced at 10 years old, she knew how to protect herself from other psychics. This movie was so awesome. And it's that much greater watching it now that I practice and understand spiritual traditions. Thank you for sharing this. Happy Hoodoo Heritage Month.

Noooooo. Mozelle snatched her hands away from Eve and she does tell her to keep her secrets, but Mozelle was LYING! We find out later that Mozelle did see because she CONFRONTED her brother/the father about the allegations. The father wrote the letter of denial TO MOZELLE and explains that he was hurt by her allegation and denies it while telling his version of events. That’s the letter Eve finds and confronts cicely with at the end. Mozelle did see it. She was protective of her brother and pretended she didn’t see anything. But we know she saw that something had happened because she later confronted her brother about it. Also, when she reads Eve real quick you can hear the sounds of the events sped up. Then she snatched her hands away. She was stunned and tried to gaslight Eve into thinking she couldn’t see anything. Mozelle knows what Eve has done and that’s why at the end she tells Eve the story about the dream which essentially is about not wallowing on the past wrongs and moving forward. Then Eve releases the letter to the water. Mozelle knew it all

So the perspectives of the film is definitely a reflection of someone’s personal memories.. I’ve noticed that Ceily resembles her mother the most out of the 3 children. She has black hair, brown skin and a slim physique. Like her mother. Which I believe lead to her trying to become her mother (getting the same haircut, trying to run the household, adoring her dad) and ultimately resenting her mother. Eve inherits her name from her ancestor, she also inherits red hair like her aunt Mozelle, and she inherits spiritual gifts. They both inherit different generational gifts/curses. Sheeesh it gets deep lol

Eve’s bayou was on repeat as one of my faves in the 90s! You are spot on! However when aunt mozell reads eves palm I think you missed a VERY IMPORTANT detail. 👀👀 when mozell tried to read eves hands, she COULDNT because eve blocked her from her energy 👀 mozell says after “well gone then keep your secrets” and scolds her for what she initially said, not what she saw. Understanding and applying her gift so young against a veteran means eve was powerful 👀👀 Great commentary!

Yes she definitely saw but lied about it to Eve. She went and confronted her brother prompting him to right that letter of denial to Mozelle right BEFORE his death which was found by Eve AFTER his death. Mozelle saw what Eve was thinking which is why Mozelle jerked her hands back. She was stunned and hurt

It’s the Elecetra Complex. Though it is only ages 3-6, she’s stuck there and I’m sure the years dad favorites her helps that. She becomes her mother because she is her mother’s child, but to show like yea, I got this. The second one is befitting because he could have been grooming her. In a sense could have pitted the two against each other. She loves her dad. She’s confused. Dad may have wrote the letter because he couldn’t stand for Mozel to hold his hands. He could lie through a letter, not a hand.

Great breakdown...Eve's Bayou and The Skeleton Key are two of my favorite movies. Without having seen the directors cut (just ordered on ebay, Lol) My summation of the ending was that when Eve confronted Cicely and called her a liar, she told Cicely "I hated him for you" showing that Eve now felt guilty for having gone to Elzora to kill her father. Cicely imo was unable to admit that she lied so Eve asked for her hands to read her (apparently Cicely also knew Eve had the gift because she gave her hands in a knowing gesture imo) I believe Eve did see that Cicely was the initiator with a grown woman intention in the exchange. And being that Eve did not share with anyone what she did by going to Elzora, I believe she chose to give Cicely grace...because even though Cicely lied, EVE was the one who killed her father, so they both carried guilt for their actions. So I think Eve decided they would destroy the letter probably feeling MORE guilty than Cicely and unable to share with anyone her role in her fathers death. When Eve sat in the tree at the end looking as if she had been crying, I think it was still a feeling of guilt...and Mozelle came to tell her that she saw her father in a vision (dream) and he gave her the message "Tell Eve I still owe her that dance" I saw this as him releasing his daughter from the guilt of his death. Side note 1: I think the sisters were very close as siblings. Which is why Eve got jealous when her father danced with Cicely instead of her. I think Eve looked up to Cicely even though they were total opposite energies, Cicely more refined in nature, and Eve bold and brash. Their closeness imo is why Eve was also willing to keep the secret/lie that Cicely told...Remember the shhhh gesture when they sent Cicely away? Which is also when Eve went into motion to kill her father. Side note 2: I think Eve was more powerful, or had the potential to be, than Mozelle. She showed it when Mozelle wanted to read her after Eve asked about killing with voudou. Eve made Mozelle feel her power causing Mozelle to snatch away. Mozelle told her "well go on and keep secrets if you want to, I won't squeeze it out of you" Side note 3: I think Eve "watered" the seed in Matty's husbands head. He was a traveling man for work and already knew his wife was promiscuous...he saw how she was hiking her dress when dancing with Louis at the party. Plus, Matty and Louis were not a secret in the towns eyes...everybody knew! So I'm sure he would hear talk...And he knew just where they both would be drinking together. Apologies for the long post, I can't wait to see the directors cut...Who knows, maybe my light will change.🙂 Ase

I love this break down! I noticed when Eve and Poe were near the water and discovered what they thought was a dead snake in the grass. However, she picked it up, and it was alive...rise of the kundalini. When Eve went to the market, she stole a pineapple (symbolic of the third eye). I'm thinking Elzora caught on to Eve's gift when Eve's mother asked for help. She was prepared for what was to come because the snake scene happened soon after Eve's mother was given a reading. A door was opened. Elzora then mentions that she put her father's hair in the snake's mouth and buried it in his family plot. Eve stole one of the two 20 dollar bills from her father's clip (20 20 vision). Did Eve stealing represent her reflecting her father's actions? There's a possibility that the same thing happened to Mozelle which is why she was cursed and threatened Eve the same way Cicely rerouted Eve's perception.

The way you explained and broke this down at the end "The truth changes color, depending on the light" made me realize the moral of this story on how sometimes we only know what we know by OUR perspective and how we recieve something by OUR own personal experiences. I immediately believed Cecily because of the way he treated her. Plus he was slimey. Then when I saw the end it all tied together. I think Cecily felt she could be a better version of her mom. The haircut, adolescent, and her fantasy life. It wasn't until the end that I believed both sides. She thought mayve that was the night she could become his wife. He could have thought she was his wife by the way her hair was cut plus he was drunk.

in reference to the topic at 50:50 timestamp. Everyone story is already written. Eve did kill her father. This was Eve's introduction into the practice of rootwork along with her having the gift of sight, so that was apart of her story. Yes that was the dad's story and now Eve knows the weight of the responsibility of killing someone through rootwork. And the Light is always perspective and as you change and experience more your perspective change. I bet Eve won't be so quick to do that in the future.

What i also want people to think about is Cecily being 14 yrs old. She was groomed up until the SA , and still has a deep love for her father. So i think her crying and running off after the mother told her she is not allowed to wait up for her father again, is because she feels like the mother is punishing her for something her father did to her. We keep talking and seeing it from the poinf of view as an adult, but put yourself in 14 year old Cecily's shoes. She probably blames herself for what happened to her, and now she is feeling punished for what happened to her.

Elzora didn’t do much in my opinion but state what was to come. I’m sure the whole city knew the father’s activities. She warned the wife or confirmed what the sister was saying. When she said look to your children she could have meant Eve as Eve was the curious one and the one who sought out/knew the truth. Eve planted the seed that led the soldier to fall on his sword from the activity he kept up. Thus look to your children. Had Eve not said what she said to that man that day which led to that man’s energy shift you see in that scene from happy and unknowing to distraught and hurt since the families were friends. Which led to the ending

"The turth changes color depending on the light" When light is shined through a prism, it emits colors DEPENDING on the angle. Each color of the rainbow can be seen (shout out to your earrings 😍). A triangular prism specifically has 3 sides much like the three perspectives that the director's cut insinuates. Also, "...depending on the light" and "...the last night my father..." - The light will always be represented by the sun which also represents the begining at the time she starts her story. The same is obvious for the ending. However, I'd like to point out the significance of the youngest child, the brother/ son/ sun. Had the father spent more time with his son, none of his behaviors would be questioned. He was so deep in cosuming feminine energy meanwhile, his son is running around scared of everything. Including his time with Eve. When she was going to work with him, that's something his son would have befited from. I agree that the primary purpose of the story is to consider someone else's perspective and confront reality when presented with information. I would like to thnk an overarching theme is also about Eve coming into understanding her spritual gifts as this is all from her perspective. You mentioned multiple times how the other spiritually gifted women were privy to Eve's spiritual gifts and were consistently working to make sure she understood her lessons. It's a story going from day to night and all the changes and lessons that occur to help us make better dicisions tomorrow. I am grateful for you and this video as it gaveme a solid mental decompression from the week.

This was a honest convo about trauma and how it molds your perception on things.......Maybe Cicely tried to kiss her dad and he was 100% innocent and slapped her away maybe she had the electra complex which is all 1 sided so after the slap it hurt her spirit because of the fixation she had for him

I always understood that Cicely seduced her father into having sex with her while he was drunk. When he realized what was happening, he reacted with shock & horror. She was hurt physically & emotionally. Lewis realized his own fault in the matter. He felt guilty. He should have been kinder, apologized, and explained the reason what happened was wrong. But the damage was done. He was embarrassed. She was a child. He should have known better. Lewis became self destructive (falling on his sword) as a result of his guilt for what he did to his child. I also thought Cicely was pregnant. That’s the reason she was sent away. We don’t know how long she was gone. Maybe she got an abortion. Maybe she gave the baby up for adoption. Mozelle & Elzora were merely two sides of the same coin. Both taught Eve valuable lessons for people with spiritual gifts. She was one of them (a psychic). They were her elders. Elzora was known for being brutally honest & mean. Practicing high & low magic, she was likely capable of removing Mozelle’s black widow curse. But Mozelle was too prideful to ask for help. She respected Elzora’s gift enough to sit down for a reading. But in true Elzora fashion, Elzora was brutal in her delivery. Both witches were petty. Otherwise, they each taught Eve responsibility & to not carry the burdens of others. There are consequences for everything we do.

Maybe Cecily was telling the truth. Maybe Eve couldn’t see everything because Cecily became traumatized and suppressed the event of getting raped. I also feel in a way she was still trying to protect him. That makes sense to me. I know when I use to watch it and I just felt that she was out of control and obsessed with her father and I sure thought she was lying. I always wondered why that little girl would want her father in that way. I think we need a Eve Bayou part 2. I also feel like no work was done on him and it was a lesson being taught.

The shoulder massage and the alcohol pouring, waiting late hours for him to get home as a child was inappropriate to me. So much attention to 1 child only was favoritism. Not correcting Cisley for disrespecting her mother is pitting them against each other for the benefit of him needing validation. What the dad did was triangulate between mother and daughter against each other. And to a young impressionable young lady this was wrong teachings and had her confused in a mental torment confused in a way of If he was her romantic partner or father. Also the dad’s need for constant validation with his ego (no matter who was willing to) is sickening that’s just me.

Now my light's color is a bit altered because you've placed doubt. Awesome job of making us SEE!

I love eve’s bayou ! I never seen the directors cut but I lean more towards the third option. I do believe she was definitely groomed and SAed. The grooming imo caused her to internalize her pain and project it as something “normal “ and see it as a relationship. I also feel like the mom may have suspected something which is why I think that was the real reason they sent her away that summer.

Wow… the truth changes color… that’s a new way of looking at everything… I am a HealHER of myself from SA and I definitely believed her first Watch… as I grew older and revisited it… I thought different… like Sisley had the darker magic aspect…

It was spelled Poe but I mean it’s still pronounced the same 😂 I love this movie… what’s so funny is my cousin came down to visit me a few weeks ago and she was telling me that she started a list of her favorite movies… an once she was done going over the list I had added about 15 more movies and this was one that she was missing lol. I can’t wait to go rewatch it for the 50/11 time with all these points in mind. You know what else I noticed is how the aunt and Eve looked so much a like had the closest bond and shared similar gifts.

I think it's the first option but I don't Cicely necessarily lied. I don't think either of them know for sure what happened just that a line was crossed. The realization hit them at the same time and they both recoiled in different ways.

I have a theory… I feel this movie is about perception . The father on many occasions lied and gaslighted eve. Even when eve seen the truth she was easily decided by her sister . We even started to question our eyes. Now look when it went down with the sister .. I know some can’t bare the thought of a relationship between daughter and father but s/a and the big m happens more often by a family member than a stranger. Listen to Lynn Whitfield when they argue 👀.. lastly the narrator said she “killed her father when it she begins to divulge because she thought the “voo doo killed her father .. she felt guilty, but after telling her story and revisiting her past she realized what happened to her father was bound to happen .. he was exactly who he was trying to hide from her 😂 the liar the cheater the man who s/a her sister .. the man who had no composure .. he was the soldier and maddy husband was the sword ⚔️ to wrap it all up listen..the sister was waiting for the dad to come in and say goodnight … 🌙 his last words were “goodnight maddy😮 “ that’s why she said “ the last time I heard my father said goodnight “ 😘 he was infamous for laying it down and he got laid down 😂 karma ❤

Eve planted the doubt, Elzora, saw what was going to happen when she read the mother. Mozzelle had a spotty vision. Because she said she can never see when the future involves her. Elzora taught Eve a valuable lesson she will never use her gift for self gain. I don't think the father was grooming the daughter. But he had the opportunity to fix it and didn't. But we need to remember there are three sides to every story. They both had their own perspective and feeling on what happened.

Eve blocked her auntie’s site from seeing what she has done. That’s why she let go of her hands then she told what she told her and eve ran off to save her father. I have a auntie with that gift and when I’m going through something I don’t come around or allow her to touch me. I have the dream visions.

That’s a good point. I thought his ego was his sword since he needed to be the hero or validated by others. He was worried, but he laughed it off. Louis didn’t take things seriously and he pushes his limits.

You were so Awesome at illustrating each scene ❤ I noticed that when Mozelle attempted to read Eve's thoughts, Eve had the ability to shut her out and prevent her from entering her mind... Mozelle said " Go on then keep secrets!!" So that made me feel like Eve would possibly go on to become more advanced than Mozelle.🤔😉

I don't think Lewis abused Cecily. I think Cecily was a narcissistic manipulator who was obsessed with her father and in competition with her mother. Also, why was the second born daughter named for EVE? Also I think the curse was pertaining to a slave being forced to marry a master. If she(Eve) couldn't find love, then no one will ever love a man! Great video! Thanks for sharing! ❤❤❤

Thank you, Queen Po for your beautiful energy We should have a zoom meeting for each of these incredible characters because there is lot of symbolism. we are easily distracted and missing. Numerology is heavy symbolism in the movie. Mozelle - 3 deceased husbands Elzora mention - Look out for your 3 children in 3 years. Age 14+10+9 = 3 3

Hey Queen Po, I am new to your channel. I love your interpretation, and you are etherally beautiful. I gravitated to this film because I have a gift of clairsentient and I felt like an outcast of being gay. My family on both sides on the maternal of my mother's and fathers had abilities that were shut up by their husbands. I come from a multi racial background. Do you think Cissy had a gift?. In my opinion, she had a gift to enchant or charm just like she did her sister Eve and her father. I know that it's far-fetched, but I wondered if it was possible. After watching the film, I realized that the grounded ones who didn't have the gifts Roz and Cissy (if she didnt) were the only ones living in a fantasy when they are supposed to be in reality of not having the mystical gifts. However, Eve, Eve's aunt, and the psychic lady were more grounded because they could spirtiually see. You would think they are living in a fantasy, but they see the truth. The spiritual is grounding them in reality while Eve's mother and Cissy are living in a delusion and cannot see through the veil, so they create their own world in their mind about the truth of the Husband and Father, Louis.

I don’t think it was an affair . Because remember . She said “he hurt me eve” so she left .she thought she could be like her mother or better and he slapped her because she was out of order . It crushed her because she just knew if she mirrored her mother he would love her like a women . If it would of went her way . It would of been her secret and she would of kept it going . The blood in her panties was a period . Think about how cisely was acting . Her hormones were going crazy . Her attitude was out of wack . She could of possibly got her cycle the night she decided to kiss her farther In that way . The period made her brave , it made her a women . And at the moment she felt ready for her father . (Blood, sweat & Tears) she felt she was now ready .
