As an old Manley customer, back when David was running the company, I’m glad to see the Manley Labs still around. I still use my Manley tape head preamp and a pair of Luke’s monoblocks powering some custom front loaded horn subs. My suggestion for the phono pre would be to have all loading and input selection on FRONT panel, not the rear. Many of us analog listeners have multiple cartridges and use 2 or more arms mounted to our cables. Be it for mono cartridges and stereo cartridges or swapping cartridges depending upon which music we are listening to, swapping loading should be as simple as possible. Having to disconnect phono cables and accessing rear dip switches is impractical. While you’re updating phono preamp, I’d also suggest licensing equalisation with DS Audio to offer compatibility with their exceptional optical cartridges.

@@manleylabs I’m very happy with my current phono preamp. The only reason I would upgrade is if a quality preamp offered an optical cartridge input in addition to MM & MC. Hopefully that is in your plans, or maybe you can encourage Luke to offer such a device😉

I bet it sounds nice, but dip switches in the back is so customer UN-friendly. Please make phono stage adjustments all accessible in the front. If considered unsightly, then hide them behind door. But on back is just a non-starter. The custom slot is interesting, but first get the basics right. my 2c. Would love to support fellow California companies; have Dan Clark, PassLabs, and bought several pieces from Upscale including Naia package recently. So I am in the market for an endgame phono stage.

@@manleylabs Thanks for taking the time. I am in no rush, so will be looking forward to any upcoming products. Steelhead has the user convenience, but I would not need the volume control. I am thinking 5-10K to match the Naia. There are some other contenders in California such as Zesto (have their SUT on order) and Pass (have an XA25), and am also looking around elsewhere around the globe (e.g. EAT eglow full, have the petite). It may take me a year or two to come to a conclusion. Depending how the SUT works out, I may also be looking for a high end MM-only stage. Kind of a weird combo as high end typically implies MC. However, a 5-10K MM only stage should sound out of this world. Re set and forget, MCloading/MMcapacitance is best adjusted by ear. Doing it by the numbers and assume it is optimal is not ideal. But having to pull unit in and out to fiddle with dip switches is a pain. I would think dip switches to be ok for
