34:07 A brief (yes, this is the brief version) explanation of the hellscape that is the USN naming scheme: we've been using the same basic list of ship names that was drawn up by the first Secretary of the Navy, but we've gotten a few (a lot) more classes of warship since that time. As such, we've changed what names go to which classes a few times and occasionally added on to suit the tenor of the times (Submarines being named for fish, for one). USS _Ticonderoga_ has been, in order: - A 17-gun schooner (1814-1825) - A screw-steamer sloop-of-war (1862-1881) - A German cargo ship taken as a prize of war and renamed (1917-1918) - An Essex-class aircraft carrier (1944-1973) - Lead of her class of guided missile cruisers (1981-2004) For a while, it was sort of a free-for-all with what names went where. We nailed it down a bit before the Great War, and the carrier naming scheme (major battles and historical USN warships) was set by Lexington (CV-2), as Langley (CV-1) was apparently named for the inventor of the bolometer. We've since changed carriers to (mostly) Presidents and historic ships, and cruisers (previously cities) are now mostly major battles. Submarines (previously fish) are now states, which used to go to battleships. Destroyers are still named for USN and USMC heroes. Confused yet, Stealth? So are we.
@magnum67632 жыл бұрын
Frigates are also USN/MC heroes, and other smaller ships like patrol boats, minesweepers and stuff is still a free for all. and transports are just random important people.

Not even the best part. With the Ohio and Los Angeles class subs it was states for missile subs and cities for attack subs. With the new Virginia and upcoming Columbia classes it’s states (and later on fish) for attack subs and cities for missile subs
@ryanhampson6736 ай бұрын
I actually like that submarines were named after sealife. There was some talk recently about going back to that naming convention but it makes sense submarines took up states names. BB’s were states before and were considered the most destructive ships at the time. Now submarines hold that title with ballistic missiles.

I just received a message for you, Sir. Rear Admiral James Pierce may agree with bigger battleships as a show of force, but he also believes the Navy could do well with more smaller ships to escort the large battleships and battlecruisers. He would like more cruisers of the light and heavy variety for engagements independent of the main battlefleet, and he would firmly asserts that we neet more destroyers to combat enemy submarines and to screen the larger ships. Lately I've found that I can get really good engine efficiencies from BB and DD/TB, often 100%+, but all of my CA/CL designs are horrible for engines, especially the CA, usually around 40-50%. Bit annoying. I find I'm running into enemy "super fleets" at an alarming rate. It seems that the AI will sortie individual shipsor small groups and then they return to base as one large unit where they find my blockading units. The end result is usually my ships outnumbered by about 5 to 1 (I had one instance when I was facing 15 to 1 odds). Luckily for me, my ships are usually far more durable and I'll win most of the time or at least leave them with a handful of half-sunk wrecks. At this point the AI will usually ask for peace.

@stealth17 Gaming. My understanding of the ricochet chance angles is this. That it is an range of angles that determine the chance of ricochet. An example would be at 30 degree angle there is a 12% chance to ricochet, and it scales probably up to 60 degrees or what ever and that results in a 80% chance to ricochet. When the shells say it adds +80% more to the maximum angle its makes that 60 degree a higher number meaning that 80% ricochet chance is spaced farther away from the minimum 30 degrees. So in an isolated scenario where only the +80% maximum angle is applied something like a 48 degree angle that used to have a 32% chance to ricochet now only has a 24% chance to ricochet Take the same scenario but instead apply a -40% minimum angle so now that 30 degree w/ 12% ricochet chance is at 22degrees or what ever it is. That 48 degree angle now goes from the base ricochet chance of 32% to something like 40%. So for the SAP shells that add +40% to minimum then again +80% to maximum, they're moving that range of "ricochetable" angles further up giving you the opportunity to essentially not ricochet at crazier angles. So basically not only do you have a 0% chance to ricochet at 30 degrees, the angles of when ricochets even start happening now starts at 45 degrees. Then on top of that the maximum is so much more far away that you'd only get to the high ricochet chances at unbelievable angles. This is my take on it and it could be incredibly incorrect.

Still i'm surprised at how small your fleet is unless i missed something. I suppose their is always experimenting with the other ship hulls. Maybe put together a few Cruiser squadrons (an Alaska paired with other cruisers, a couple DDs), Suppose you could try making something like the Atlanta Class or one of its refits like San Diago (a crap ton of 5 inch guns, they did have torpedo launchers toward the stern) for scouting and DD harassment. And maybe some more DDs, perhaps a Destroyer Escort design? (like 1 torpedo launcher and 2 or 3 guns. The idea being their cheep but still effective) for minesweeping purposes.

You would be surprised how well these can work if you stack AP dammage or even light shells for les richoche chance, just be sure to kinda of use oversized guns.. Also, on A B X comfiguration you can always put the X gun on a barbette and massively increase secondary guns. I once had a 1920 or so British BC with A B X double 14 inch guns and a whopping x36 Mk 3 5.7 inch guns per side with the farthest aft firing either side.

There seems to be a bug. You can increase barrel length but the game does not use the extra range. You do get the accuracy bonus. You also get the reload debuff.
