Defense is pyshical, arts is "magic", and elemental damage is some mechanic some operator has. Its like saying "extra effect", example the operator Virtuosa. Virtuosa herself inflict elemental named Necrosis damage *every operator has different kind of elemental damage*. When the elemental bar is full, it will deal DoT and reduces the target's Attack. So yeh, she is broken in some ways.

As an old player I didn't think about it before but having elemental resistance added to the stat bar is really confusing to the new player. It does actually sound more like defense again "magic", compared to just resistance that might as well be "physical resistance'". In any other game if I saw resistance and elemental resistance stats. I would equate it to defense against physical and magical type of damage.

DEF (defense) reduces physical damage by a flat amount RES (resistance) reduces arts damage by a percent Elemental RES you can just ignore, every enemy has 0 and only a few operators can actually inflict it (same applies to Effect Resistance)

Clay, if you're reading this comment, take notes please. This'll help you out with planning around mobs and bosses. Elemental Damage is a relatively new stat block in Arknights. Only a few operators are able to inflict it through skills or basic attacks, so discard that stat for the moment. (All enemies right now are rated E for Elemental Damage anyways, but it's useless if you don't have anyone that can deal it). In the early chapters, it's sometimes better to go for physical over arts because of the low DEF enemies. You'll often want to go Arts--despite a higher rank in enemy RES--if you find your physical operators have lower ATK values than enemy DEF. Remember, DEF is a flat reduction, while RES is a percent reduction. If all your physical ops have lower ATK than enemy DEF, they won't deal damage. If your Casters deal damage to an A RES enemy, assuming they have 40 RES, you still deal 60% of Arts damage. Please read :< (It's pretty fun but stressful seeing your daily updates. Regarding which operator to level: pick the ones who you need to fill or reinforce a given role in your team. It's not a hard science, but you'll have to grapple with the SPECIALIZE vs GENERALIZE argument whenever you level up a new-ish account anyways.)

For these maps honestly Ascalon is the cheat code. People talk up Ling but it's only E2 Ling that's OP. Without her Skill 3 she's pretty similar to any other summoner. Ascalon's best skill is her Skill 2 which means when you use her as support you'll actually get to use the good skill on her. Ascalon can practically solo these maps (in a sense they were designed with her in mind since she's the banner character for this event). The community has a lot of memes about "OP this" and "OP that" but its all players who have built accounts and are only thinking of fully built versions of operators. Even when people talk about how Wis'adel is the most OP character to ever exist, that again is only true at E2 with her Skill 3. If she were out today and you used her as support right now it there'd still be a dozen other operators better than her E1 version.

Alright, so a few things about a few of the operators you haven't leveled yet, to help you make a decision on things. Gravel: She's a quick redeploy unit, which means upon death, shes ready to be put back on the field really quick. She also puts up a shield around herself when deployed. Shes not big on damage, but shes an invaluable unit for stopping in coming threats like the lance men or holding off powerful enemies so you can focus on other things. Her whole thing is being deploy, stop something, get taken out and then be ready to go again. Very useful May: People don't mention her much but as a sniper she has really high damage for a 4 star, not only that but her second skill stuns enemies it hits. She is quite powerful at taking out fliers and delaying attackes, her main downside is shes quite squishy defensively. Mousse: A unique attacker because her attacks do Arts Damage instead of Physical. That means shes great for ripping apart armored units. Any of those would be a good one to start leveling. You can also try to get Mountain or Lappland to E2. It would take time but since they are your main damage dealers its a worth it investment. As a side note, have you been grabbing your free resource packs from the shop, the ones for reaching certain levels. The ones that are actually free and the ones that cost th yellow currency? Both are worth grabbing, if you haven't I would heavily recommend doing so.

Right now I would HIGHLY recommend getting a 4 star to E2. It can be Myrtle or anyone else you really like. Getting one there is more important than worrying about who to get there. This will all get significantly easier once you can borrow E2 support units. Ling for example is well known for soloing stages. Debatably the strongest soloer in the game. But she NEEDS E2. I can guarantee at least 90% of the stages you're struggling with can be soloed by a Ling if you play smartly

7:05 I mean.... yeah. There's a reason that an entire tab in the terminal menu is dedicated to stages that give levelling materials. You don't need to waste your life away doing nothing but auto-deploys for day straight, but you should farm enough to get your whole squad to a reasonable level rather than relying solely on a couple of decent units to do the trick. I didn't even beat 4-10 until I had a six star at elite 2 (granted I absolutely steamrolled the stage, but still). Arknights isn't a game that you're supposed to rush through immediately . You should take some time to learn mechanics and strategies, farm resources, and learn about the strengths and weaknesses of your units. It does kind of suck that you can't just infinitely play through everything (f u sanity), but at least early on you need to take time to actually figure out what you're doing. That aside, you should look into building your base (bottom right corner of the home screen). It will passively generate you LMD and exp so you don't have to rely on using sanity all the time. The gain isn't much until you get more upgrades, but it's better than nothing and you will need to do it for progression reasons.

Ling as a unit is fine, but her true potential stems from her Elite 2. It's one thing to send out a bunch of dragons, it's another thing send out a squad of large dragons. So I suggest finding a unit to E2 before Ling becomes the actual braindead unit, or otherwise send out a different support unit.

The only thing I can say is, take any, and I mean ANY 4 star and bring them to Elite 2: Reason: Friend Supports(your ling included) depend on the highest promoted Operator in your squad. --> your current highest is Elite one --> therefore friends can also just be elite 1 If you take Myrtle(just as an example) and have her at elite 2 in your squad, then it would open up a lot of new ways you could tackle these stages. Because: - Most 6 star operator's main skill is their third with only few exeptions - at e2 these operators also gain access to their "module"(system that strengthens an operator's stats and passive) Conclusion: Take a 4 star operator you frequently use and raise them(why 4 star? Gravel is unironically one of the best 4* units. She's surprisingly tanky in the first several seconds of her deployment with Skill 2, and her low cost + fast-redeploy properties make her one of the most commonly available and useful "stall" operators that can buy you valuable time, whether that's shoring up a possible leak or delaying a boss/elite for a few precious seconds.

Elemental res is different from Res, Elemental res you don't really need to worry about since they still haven't introduced any enemies that have elemental res but basically it's supposed to increase the enemies resistance to necrosis and burn. Res goes from E-SS E,D,C,B,B+,A,A+,S,S+,SS E is 0% arts Res and each letter adds 10 res, which is just 10% resistance to arts damage.

Elemental damage is not magic damage, "Arts" is magic damage. So when you were throwing Amiya and Ling at Frostnova, she was resisting 50% of your damage. Elemental damage is it's own thing and an operator's skill description will specifically tell you if they do it or not. You can tell when someone is doing elemental damage when a tiny circle appears below the health bar. When that circle depletes, a specific elemental "burst effect" will occur.

Advice for deciding which operators to build: There are two phases in Arknights when it doesn't matter what specific operators you build: when you're just starting out and when you are well into the endgame. Early on, it's much more important to look for operator archetypes to build rather than specific ops. There are definitely characters that outperform others in the same roles, but these differences only become significant when you invest heavily into them. For example: Hoshiguma and Beagle occupy the same niche: defense. The only difference is that Hoshiguma is a 6-star and is the go-to when you need an immovable wall, and Beagle is a 3-star that is usually scrapped after chapter 5. At elite 1 level 55 skill level 7, Hoshi's on-skill defense value is 894 and Beagle's is 880. This means that Hoshi is better, right? Well yes, but this is disregarding the fact that she costs twice as much to upgrade, has more expensive skill upgrades, is more expensive to deploy, and is basically impossible to get dupes of compared to Beagle. Now let's compare at either of their respective maximum possible levels. Beagle's on-skill defense is 924 and Hoshi goes up to... 1,200. Passively. The operators people tell you are "good" now only really have the ~potential~ to noticeably surpass their peers, but it doesn't mean they're much better early on. What I'm trying to say is, you should pay more attention to what it is the operators do instead of who they are. You don't need Sussuro, you need a medic; you don't need Specter, you need a centurion guard. Building your 3-stars (all of them) to their respective level caps will be much more worth it to you now than wasting brain power trying to find out who's optimal. Every operator is pretty much just as good as any other in their archetype at this level, so just build the cheapest option and worry about meta later when it actually makes a difference There are some exceptions to this for operators who have unique and useful niches, but the only one you need to pay attention to is Gravel bait operators are relevant in virtually all content and she is by far the best option for this. Other than that just get good I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is wild to watch cause when I started we had very little downtime between events and I was basically spending most of my sanity on events and what little downtime there was i spent on farming chips, the base and red certs. So I ended up going into the Frostnova fight with a elite 2 level 60 mod 3 skill 3 mastery 3 Degenbrecher and I just bursted Frostnova down twice with a borrowed Gummy in front on the very first tile of the map 😂

out of the characters you have i would recommend giving a shot to a few rather great characters you have. Gravel is a fast redeploy character with niche in absorbing lots of damage for a short amount of time. After she tanks a nasty hit for you, ideally she gets undeployed and redeployed later where she is needed. Gavial is just an all around solid single target healer. A lot of newer people swear by her. May is another rather popular 4* unit. She is a single target sniper with a rather potent slow on her. Both good to stall and her damage isn't bad. Considering you already have lapland, i would probably advise against leveling up mousse as she would generally take a similar place to her on your team. Overall, you do need levels, if anything on your couple core operators. You need to select a few core operators focus on them and get them built up. The 4 you have are fine and all, but you'd probably want another 3.

Frostnova is a tough boss. Also difficult to replay the stage because her attacks are RNG. It is tough to decide which teammates to level up. I mostly level up members I see clear Kyostin's videos and later on pick who I like. From the tier lists I have seen Mountain is worth leveling up, Lappland is worth it, if you need someone to defend more than two Popukar can be good until someone else shows up. Maybe do a few more recruitments to build up on copies because that does help. If you have time, there is a guide on how you can pull good units out of the recruitment. I have read it to help me get good four stars. The five and six stars are hard to get but not impossible.

Gravel is perfect for stop single high priority targets and baiting out their attacks. For example she is amazing at stalling bosses. However she isn't really a good starter operator. For Gavial she's fine and a decent healer but my god does Sussuro just leaves her in the dust. Sussuro is a four star and her healing is one of the highest in the game despite being a four star. Although her skill can only be used twice, twice is all you need to beat any stage. In my opinion from your team comp Jessica might be a good starter elite 2. Not only she's a 4 star meaning she is cheaper to elite 2 unlike 5 or six stars but she can do considerable damage. However... May can be considered a direct upgrade for her which is another 4 star sniper operator. I am going to stop ranting now

Something you may have misread, elemental resistance isn't resistance to magic damage, which most casters deal, it's for elemental damage which is incredibly rare. The only units I can think of off the top of my head that deal it are Virtuosa and Valvarqvin. The res status is standard resistance to magic damage. You're actually better dealing physical damage to Frostnova as her res is a fair bit higher than her def.

When you read the stats of the enemies, notice that there's 4 type of defence form. DEF is for Attack Damage, RES is for Arts Damage, these two is what you need in the early game, no need to be careful of Elemental RES or Effect Resistance. But if you're curious, here's what they do Elemental RES is a type of defence that reduce the amount of Elemental Damage that being taken, Effect Resistance on the other hand will make the "fallout state" of the Elemental Damage more difficult to be trigger There's certain option of operators that you can use to deal Elemental Damage, most prime example is Virtuosa (6* Supporter : Ritualist). Pathing for enemies is not really intuitive. For example, each enemy have their own designated blue box to go to, even if you push/pull an enemy into another blue box, nothing will happen. Your Hp will not minus 1 and the enemy will continue moving to his designated blue box. Here they show you the boss' path but future bosses don't and they can get really complicated. Treat the "stairs" as some sort of teleporter or portal, and take note of the arrows. They denoted whether its an in or out portal, and the color of the arrow denote the pairings. E.g. an enemy entering a portal with a red "in" arrow will exit from a portal with a red "out" arrow. However, there are times where they decide to put two pairs with the same damn color. In such a scenario, you can only curse and memorize the path

Just to let you know for leveling up your characters, skill levels is more important than operator levels since that’s where most of their power comes from. Promoting to E2 is the priority but if that’s not possible because of the lack of resources, skill level 7 is the best thing to work towards as is basically considered the standard for characters. For example, melantha at max level has 738 atk. SL 1(skill level) increases the atk by only 10% and takes 50 sp to charge. At SL 7, that increases to 50% at 40 sp charge meaning you can do more damage at faster intervals than you would at a lower skill level. A E1 lvl 1 melantha at sl7 would still do more damage than E1 lvl 55 sl1. Same thing with any other character, asbestos low damage would increase, mountain can survive even more and so on. Levels are important for the base stats but the number increase does drop off at a certain point so it’s better to save the resources after you have at least your core ops at sl7.

Grind the easy stages of babel, buy everything in the event shop, and level up your unit. Don't rush the main story, they just get more and more difficult. Take time to do other side stuff that like the side story and entermezi. Arknights is a HEAVY grinding game.

Most boss you encounter in Arknights will have at least 2 phases. Some have three. For the issue who to choose to E2 your operator. I strongly suggest someone that you already start to upgrade or operator that you use currently in your team. So you already got Jessica on E1 level 60 then just E2 Jessica, this solution will be fastest and less resources to spend.

Just fyi you can ignore the elemental resistance stat, its for a very limited amount of operators that do elemental damage. You only need to look at defence, which blocks physical damage, and resistance, which blocks arts (magic) damage.

Res stands for arts resistance; I don't think you have a character that deals elemental damage yet. Frostnova has low res so arts dmg is better then physical

Don't wanna stress ya too much about who to level, gonna base it off what you have leveled so far. Since resources are tight, I'd suggest not leveling Myrtle anymore for now until you have a team that can survive long enough. Plume is a vanguard that only gives 1 DP per kill. So you can probably level up Plume to E0 lvl 45 or whatever it's the max level before E1 or you can attempt to level Fang to have a vanguard who produces 7 DP per skill use and have a vanguard that can block 2 rather than Plume's 1 block. Vanguard leveling, Plume E0 max or Fang. Myrtle not really but if you really want, E1 level 1 Skill level 7. Gravel is a fast-redeploy who is tanky upon deploying, she can quickly block 1 enemy and tank a hit or 2. Fast-redeploys would've really helped you with those 'licorice enemies' where the fast-redeploy can force the enemy to use the skill on them so that way the skill won't be used on your main units. If you don't want to level Gravel, you can also use the 2 star Yato. Yato isn't tanky and is a dollar store Fast-redeploy so she is only limited to getting hit once but at least you don't need to level her up. The Lancers you see in the BB stages, you can use the fast redeploys to quickly take the hit as long as you deploy them in front of that enemy in time so that way Mountain won't get as much damage when they reach him. Fast-redeploy leveling, Gravel E0 max skill level 4 or E1 level 1 Skill level 7 or Yato E0 level 1. Main job taking one hit at low cost. If still using ling, using Dragon summon to tank hit is also passable DP cost is 18 rather than a 7-10 fast redeploy. You don't need to level up Gavial, Hibicus would do the job just fine as long as you put your medics in positions that matter. Remember Range enemies generally target the most recently placed units first, so if the medic is down first they'll be targeted. The range enemies range is usually 2 squares away from their position. Medics leveling, Hibicus is fine level at moderation. Popkur, the chainsaw girl you called old lady, hits all enemies that are in her attack range which is why you should have her in front of the defenders to quickly kill the wave of enemies on that lane. Mountain does the same thing with the skill you're using but he only attacks whoever he is blocking or on top of him, which is why you probably saw him standing around rather then attacking that one enemy in front of him. Lane holding Guards, Mountain is fine, Popkur not really needed but if run into stage with multiple . Have a defender behind lane holding guard to allow them to also to damage the enemies the defender blocks. E2 Jessica since it'd be the cheapest option and that she is already level E1 max. Will allow you to use E2 support units. You can also level Kroos to E1 max if you have the spare resources. If you plan to do the pulling or shoving into hole stuff. Just do an E1 level 1 Skill level 7 Rope and shaw. Not now. They can also be considered stalling as you can pull or push the enemy away from your other units. Defenders is where I think you're having problems. You don't have much option but to level Beagle and Asbestos up. Beagle being Priority and Asbestos secondary. If you get Courier then she'd be priority with Beagle second. There isn't much stages where you'd need a Arts defender. You can try having Beagle take the range damage on top in BB and have Asbestos help Mountain and lappland defend bottom. Straight up, you don't need to level up any more AoE arts. I think it's fine to leave them as is. Amiya is fine too, just need another arts person like steward to help do more arts damage when you are in a situation where the enemy is only weak to arts. In the end you have to grind out those farm stages for the battle records, Skill pages, Class Chips and maybe LMD. Have your base help you get LMD. Also if you want more units you can do the old event stages in the 'side story' tab. Don't give up, I know there is a lot, we've all been there. Just gotta be smart where resources go and how we do battle.

Simple, straightforward answer, level up and promote your 3 stars. Extremely cheap in comparison to 5 and 4 stars, and you can take on pretty much any stage with 3-stars, plus 1 choice 6-star support if it's from late-game meta but you won't hit that for a while. Maybe, maybe, promote your Jessica to E2 since she is right there and it would give you access to E2 Max Level 6-Star Supports just having her in your team, most people use Myrtle for that since, admittedly, the amount of DP she generates makes her near required on every team anyway, but you do what you want. Outside of that, don't prioritize singular units too much, do your best to have a couple teams worth of equally levelled units so you can swap to the necessary setup for each stage. Early-game tends to require planning and forethought until you get enough materials to level up enough meta units to trivialize most stages, so it might be worth checking out a few low-level guides of stages you two-starred or required a support to clear, so you can get a better idea of the planning for stages you had a hard time figuring out. That's all the advice I've got for now, still though, fun videos and I wish you luck going forward.

I think you just did Physical Damage instead of Elemental~ lol! But to answer this~ only certain Operators are able tto deal Elemental Damage and will state this in their Skill Description or Archetype Description~

You could farm the early stages of the Babel event for currency to buy stuff from the shop like the character from the event / 3 pulls / materials (money/exp/skill books). When i started i was going through the story and So long Adele(?) event and barely did both cause i leveled up fast

It's at this point of the game where you should level the characters you use to at least Elite 1 lvl 55, which is the max for 3 stars and good enough for most 4 and 5 stars.

Elemental damage is not what you think. It's a new type of damage that so far only a few operators can do. For most of the time you only need to look at DEF (against phys dmg) and RES (against arts dmg) Plume is a charger vanguard, meaning is can only generate dp by *killing* an enemy. So no she can't really get dp before she dies xD Gravel is a fast-redeploy, meaning even if she dies or gets retreated, she can come back after only 20s. You can use her for baiting and stalling strong enemies, just dont expect big damage from her.

Focus on defense (physical damage), you don't have any elemental damage ops, unless you bring virtuosa or warmy as support unit. I would focus to level up at least one op to E2, then you can unlock E2 suport units, which effectively will make your team stronger. Pick something easy like any 4 star. Gravel is a good picking, she can take good amount of damage even in late game stages at E2
