for scaling the image, you can right click on the canvas, click calibrate, click two points and enter the distance between them. that way you avoid the math and the potential decimal error of the scaling.

Man these videos have been amazing! Thank you so much for all the info! I’m getting everything ready for this winter to convert my 1982 Honda Magna to EFI and your videos have been insanely valuable. I’ll need to do way less manifold wise but this info is incredibly valuable. I’m taking some VFR800 TBs, a Speeduino, and my 3D printer to make magic 😎 all the Magna old heads are up their ass about me not wanting to keep screwing with carbs on a V4 but they’ll be the first asking how I did it lmao Edit: forgot to add that I was considering a microsquirt (just because I’m more familiar with them) but your videos have me wanting to tackle a full Speeduino build, starting with a bare board and making my own ECU housing lol

Good to see you took on some of the suggestions i gave in the last video. Done a fair bit of modling but everyones brains think differently so is very interesting to watch. I plan to do a manifold to add another injector per cyclinder on my race engine. See if a 3d print will handle boost. Rwpracing youtube has a few videos of my race stuff.

For the picture part.. 28:41 .. I’m not sure if android offers anything like it but with the newer iPhone models (pro max at least) they have a special “document scanner” to use if you are wanting to use it as “scanner”. You can either long press on the Notes app and you’ll see the shortcut to scan a document or you can open a note and click the photo symbol. It will pop up with a few options and you want to select to scan the document. It uses an algorithm to scan what you are trying to upload and it uploads the document or item completely flat as if it were to be scanned instead of taken from a single point and causing the distortion. Before you had to make sure you were perfectly over the top and level when taking the picture if you were going to try to use it for a file. At one point (still in camera mode today) it had a leveling cross to make you sure your phone was perfectly lined up flat. Now when using the scanner you can let it scan something from a random distance and angle (even 45°) and you will see it highlight the item and start to process it and then it will pop up with a perfectly straight image with no distortion. The algorithm is able to produce a file that has the effect as if it had been scanned instead of getting the distortion that you’d get from taking a regular picture for the dimensions. It allows you to to create a picture the same way as if you had physically moved the camera to scan it the same way a real one one works. Its surprisingly accurate and I never really have in trouble with it. After finding the document scanner and looking up how it was different compared to taking a picture to make a file I honestly find myself using it 9/10 times if I’m taking a picture of something I plan to mark up or whatever (be used as file and worked or edited vs screenshot or snapping a picture to edit or fill out)

Excellent pair if vids Dave, very informative. I made steering wheel hooks to mount to the rollcage for my MX5 and for a couple of other hillclimbers with detachable wheels but I made very simple "S" shaped hooks that simply hook over the rollcage tube with a double sided sticky pad to hold it in place. I shall be doing a similar job with the inlet manifold for my MX5 except I am currently using freecad (although I have also got fusion360 so may go down that route. One of the biggest differences is the inlet ports in my head are oval and obviously the ITBs are round so plenty of fun yet to be had. Currently working on a flowbench so I can measure the airflow improvement (or otherwise) with different cams and before and after some light porting work. All will eventually be on my channel. Keep the shiny side up mate :-)

Sounds fantastic, I need a road based play car… MX5s could be just the ticket! I always recommend Fusion360 and the “Loft” function will handle the oval to round transition no problems…. Flow measuring kit is definitely on the list… it’d nice to try and learn the black art of flowing heads! Cheers 👍

@@MakingforMotorsport MX5 (Mk1 preferably but I am biased) is a great fun weekend car. Mine is a pure hillclimb car now but was a plain ordinary road car when I bought it, Daughter had one and wife had one and both loved them, I even "borrowed" my wife's Mk2 August bank holiday Saturday 2017 to do a hillclimb with as I had taken a year off but missed it too much. Shared the car with a mate who used to run a 3 door Cossie Sierra in Mod prod (330-440BHP switchable) and he reckoned the wifes stock 1998 MX5 handled better on 20 year old suspension than the sierra ever did. I like the look of Fusion 360 and will make an effort to use it. Holding fire on designing the manifold as the port dimensions will almost certainly change with the porting work.

A bit of tips for creating those holes. You can use the actual hole command. It has settings that will help you countersink the bolt heads as well as the nut inserts. Or, if you feel like it's strong enough, you can model the actual threads (using a size slightly smaller than the actual threads, but same thread pitch) then run a tap (or die depending on what you're making) all in that hole command! It REALLY comes in handy to make those little tweaks all in one swift motion!

When you want test the fit you can print 0.5mm as template insted of the 50mm. Nice video i think you could gain a lot using hotkeys like the x 😜 The spacing of the holes could have been done as a linar array around your center, drawn only half and used your centerline.
