Honestly...this has the same problem as every single one of revopoints scanners. What comes out of it is smoothed to hell and loses all the detail, theres nothing crisp about it. If they used the frames taken and made a photogrammetry pass on top of it and compared that to the structured light pass they'd have a great software, but they dont...and I cant write an alternative so were just screwed until someone does.
@NeoIsrafilКүн бұрын
For reference, I've tried pop 2 and mini 2, the mini 2 barely gets any better detail than the pop 2, and my open scan that I printed and built to do JUST photogrammetry scans comes out absolutely WORLDS better than anything revopoo can crap out, and at a price point about 400 dollars lower.
@MakingforMotorsportКүн бұрын
It’s horses for courses, I know that some people get fantastic results from photogrammetry, but I’ve never managed it, primarily as I lack the patience required… and when time is money and I want functional rather than decorative results it’s had to justify the photogrammetry option.

Just putting the video together now. Hoping for next week. When I first received it I had no detection at all, I had a new cable sent out by Creality and since then it’s worked faultlessly.

Just picked up an otter after watching your review! After a couple scans, I’m having a hard time getting a clean scan of a Porsche Cayman Front bumper. I’m using large scan, fast. Maybe I need high quality? I am looking rough measurements. I am finding that there are artifacts, missing information right in the middle of what looks to be complete scanned area. Do I need aesub? Markers? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
@MakingforMotorsportКүн бұрын
I only ever used high quality so can’t comment on fast mode, but scanning something like a bumper, I’d try the following…. Use geometry tracking mode and place a scrumpled towel in front on the floor and on the bonnet to produce additional tracking info. Use texture mode with masking tape on the bumper to provide clear colour edges to track off But overall, I’d really advise you start smaller then go up from there, scanning (regardless what type of scanner) isn’t just holding the scanner, it is a skill and it takes development and practise… There will be movements I make to maximise tracking now without even thinking about it.

How would you go about doing the exact same thing, but if your steering arm curved at an inconsistent angle away from the plane that you have running through it at 22:30?
@MakingforMotorsportКүн бұрын
Hi there. In this case it would be a loft/sweep type of operation. In these you can define either a start and end cross section and a line to follow between or a series of cross sections to follow along the path. If you look at tutorials for these specific tools it’ll be obvious how you can use it following the Create Plane > Mesh section sketch workflow 👍

For me it would be very interessting for body parts comparison. For example a repaired crashed chassis with a new one. So you can check if the repair was successfully or you need to tweak it a little bit more. Nice Video, keep it up!

No I haven’t, and to be honest it might be useful but unless there is an affordable consumer version it’s not something I want spend my time on… I want things that are affordable for the average guy doing stuff out his garage. £700 for a tool that retains value is one thing, £200 for a year of software is another…

It’s a good idea that I have seen before, but my take you need to be able to scan underneath them for the standoff to be an advantage. And for that that they’d need a hell of a stand off!

@@MakingforMotorsport gender 3 was great x1max the software won’t run on my laptop and it doesn’t work right really with and other 40watt laser works good but you have window mode and after you stop window mode you have zero ability to return to window mode to reposition you also can’t manually position without window mode and must home every run. There sales are kind of a joke as well as I got the lowest price of the year, which has consistently not been the lowest price. The flag ship 3d printer in theory is fast but HONEST truth the ended 3 not even running fast but normal factory speed is as fast or faster on small part cycle times-fact and make a nicer part much of the time. Do I like creality products: yes, gender 3 old school is a best value hands down, everything else is fine but not industry leading

I put the whole scanning process on there for that reason, so people can see. The truth is the software is functional and does a job. But lacks the advanced features. The Otter will work even with the current software, but you’ll have an extra step or two in your workflow compared to the Einstar…
