So cute! 💖 I've always wanted to hold a newly hatched snake and experience that baby smell y'all keep talking about. However, I'm also dealing with mixed emotions regarding having a snake for a pet. That, and I live with an aunt who is so afraid of snakes that even hearing the word freaks her out, unfortunately. I'm afraid of spiders myself and I've learned so much about them in recent years since I discovered KZbin that I'm slowly becoming less and less afraid of them. My aunt is so afraid of spiders and snakes that she believes learning about them won't help her after being afraid of them for about 40 years or so.

Similar to ant eaters and some species of butterflies, i believe that the tail wag is meant to pull potential predators to the tail because it's better to lose your tail than it is your head.

I love my blue beauty even if he's a bit of a jerk! Also, I can confirm, they mellow out a little with age but if you're thinking about a blue beauty as a pet and want to handle it instead of just as a display animal, you MUST put in the work to socialize them or they'll stay pretty spicy. They also look absolutely GORGEOUS in a naturalistic bioactive enclosure; I put powder orange isopods in mine because they look super cool contrasted with the blues. Something I've noticed too is that they seem a little smarter than my other snakes and the wild ones we have around our house (which to be fair, is rats/corns/hognoses/garters so the bar is not especially high); they just seem a little more "with it" when you interact with them. For example, a lot of snakes won't bite the hand holding them because it's just a perch, but my blue beauty will occasionally U-turn and bite that hand while also keeping some attention on my face because he seems to know that hand is me.
