Even among democrats...when the male candidates yell or even spoke in a high volume they were powerful and passionate, when Hillary yelled she was shrill. If Hillary was soft spoken or spoke in a neutral tone, she became boring and unenthusiastic. When she used big words and talked like an ivy leaguer, she was arrogant and was not reaching middle America, when she dumbed it down, she was pandering to the lower class. When she spoke confidently and wore pant suits she was too masculine, when she shed a tear she was too feminine. When she talked about universal healthcare in the 90s and 2008 she was deemed crazy with her wacky ideals, when someone else mentioned it in 2016 it was hip, cool, and progressive.

jaydel3 She carried her husband's water. Bill Clinton's policies have hurt millions of people. If she went from the senate to the congress to spend her remaining days in politics. People would of still disliked her but over time she would fade into the background with all the rest of the corrupt politicians. She was a politically calculated politician who was being sold as a progressive crusader without taking real political risks and no real connection to activists and social movements. They told the American people Trump was the apocalypse. Still half the country decided not to vote. To a critical thinker that's clear warning signs of diminished influence over the country.

Her biggest fault was being really good at a system half her base was tired of voting in. Hillary should be in charge of a big important company heavily regulated by Bernie Sanders.

Ok look, it's not misogynistic to say she's an average communicator at best and really struggles with connecting with people. Highly qualified isn't going to get you all the votes when you can't empathize well. That said, the criticism was really patronizing in who it played out between 'she's too weak for the job' or 'she's a harpy' it became all the boilerplate list of quasi-misogyny and man-splaining. And I say this as someone who doesn't really like her policies and neo-liberal ideology at all.

it's sad to see a very accomplished and old democracy fall but fallen it has. One of your two political parties has been completely (and the other one partially) compromised by mega-corporations and oligarchs (ironically not unlike Russia) who have succeeded in motivating large parts of your population to vote against their own best interests using their existential fears while telling them that not the economic system (which they corrupted over the years) but their neighbors - identifying them by some arbitrary trait or another - were the source of their perceived and/or real threats. And from afar they seem far more efficient at undermining pillars of democracy (like a sound educational system that taught values of enlightenment to enable the citizens to make rational decisions, politically independent judicial branch or free press). Your society has lost it's raison d'être when it stoped being beneficial to the majority of people while shielding it's weakest members. Once that is the case, people neither have obligation nor even reason to follow the laws of said society. I would have hoped we Germans could have learned from your mistakes, alas it is too late and our society will soon fall victim to those who corrupted and perverted our financial system just like it happened to you and it seems to democracy all around the world. Well, mankind had a good run and we might even survive the eruptions that will necessarily follow, once all the wealth has been accumulated "in the middle" and the myth of the "trickle down" has finally been exposed. I don't think it's a reversible process because fear mongering and ostracism of parts of society based on arbitrary traits have been established as socially acceptable behavior (just watch almost any interview with Mr. Trump), while large parts of our societies don't seem to be able or seem to care for objectifiable arguments. Reason as the be all end all in any public discussion has been replaced by the right to unreflected or unproven opinions. Any society that is ultimately based on consent (the social contract) cannot survive the end of reason as a means to come to an agreement. And so we will finally be united as men, alas not by reason but in slavery. But, as history told us, the majority cannot be oppressed forever and maybe mankind will even survive the breakdown and reemerge, just to repeat the same mistakes once again.
@Jarnauga6 жыл бұрын
Its telling that such a well crafted statement comes from a fellow European, and sad. As a fellow German I can mostly just agree with everything you said. And as a student of philosophy and history I would say, yeah we are never learning from our mistakes and will repeat them over and over again. As stale and cliche as it sounds but there is a lot of truth to "the first thing we learn from history is that mankind does not learn from history." I do have some minor additions though. I am pretty sure that mankind will survive any kind of eruption that comes from this. But it can really throw as back a lot. Could however also elevate as to a better form of society, but as it currently goes, I am not so hopeful about that. But when it comes to extinction, I wouldn't worry too much about these kind of stuff, it will never get us extinct, it mostly just throws us back and in some cases it gets us forward. Its pretty mcuh always taking back a few steps and its either to make a jump forward through negative experiences or to run back. But there are cases like the French revolution or the world wars that got us forward in some ways, just to regress afterwards. In the current situation, its too much chaos to really make out where its headed. The internet is a new and interesting factor, but the current rise in anti-intellectualism and contra logic is disturbing. Sadly its also just all too typical human behavior. In the end we aren't rational beings, even though we like to think that. I am just glad that we are a bit less drastic in that over here in Europe, especially Germany it feels like. But we will have to see how it turns out, so far the AFD got exactly where I expected them to in the election, so if my further prediction are also correct, they will not grow, at least not much, and rather regress over time. But the impact of oligarchs and capitalism are getting worse and worse, so maybe that will have a bigger impact. The US is more of an oligarchy than a democracy at this point, and Russia as well. If we don't get a grip on it, this will happen here too. On the social contract I have to object a bit though. But I haven't read much of Roussous take on it, only Hobbes. At least with Hobbes, reason is not needed for a working society based on "consent", as he calls it. So a turn to a dictatorship is terrible, but not a problem in Hobbes eyes, since its preferable to the alternative, civil war. Which we are likely to get if this current path continues though. So a society based on consent can survive the fall of reason, but a democracy can't. To even put it very hard, the German Philosopher Adorno said in the 70s that there are no real democracies, since the level of education is too low in every country for a democracy to actually work properly. And talking about a real properly working democracy, I would have to agree with him. However even our current democracy is working to a point, but without the necessary level of education, something like Trump happens or stuff like the increased power of oligarchs. As you pointed out, at some point, if they got more power than the government, the government isn't actually a government any more and there is no reason for anyone to actually follow the laws anymore. But even here in Germany, the FDP has always been getting votes and is getting them again after their drop, even though they are outright campaigning for exactly that, a free market for absolut freedom, meaning in other words, back to anarchy, just now the money rules instead of brute force, until brute force is the only thing left for most people to use. And they still get votes, and not from the people with the lowest education or the most money. They get votes from the middle class, since they believe in capitalism so much. Its utter madness, but I guess the capitalistic propaganda works, and people will just blindly follow it to a point were its completely irrational for anyone to follow it.

Hillary has suffered biased and unfair treatment, and ultimately, that sexism has given us our reward for it all: Trump. I also recognize that Al Franken has gotten unfair treatment (and quite honestly, as a person that always gives the benefit of the doubt to the victim, this is the ONE instance I've found that lacks credibility...I mostly believe he is innocent) and is sorely needed in the Senate. Taking an agreed upon kiss one step further with tongue and misplacing hands for a split second photo is not enough to fire someone who does their job better than 99% of the others.

I like Hilary, did vote for her, and still think many of her criticisms are well overblown. That said, it's a bit disingenuous to dismiss it all as coming from a place of misogyny. Certainly some of it did, but there is also genuine criticism in there that should not be conflated with the current climate. Hilary is not the most charismatic of people. While the constant 'shrill' accusation is unwarranted, some of the other calls of her particularities are not entirely off the mark (you can find clips of some of the most unnatural looking laughs/smiles for instance). That is not to say she isn't intelligent, driven, or that any of said particularities should really even matter in an election, but they are there and given the popularity-game-show nature of our elections they do matter. It's easy to assume that since these accusations are against Hillary that it is misogyny, but I don't think that's the case. Jeb Bush for instance was knocked out of the race for largely the same reasons: Not charismatic enough despite being more qualified. Or to pick another woman who has made it to the national stage as an example, Sarah Palin. She was certainly derided for her seemingly crazy ideas and ignorance, as well as some odd folksy mannerisms, but I don't recall much flak she got just for being female, and she generally was seen and described as charismatic.

I think the problem with Hillary's "likability" problem is that she didn't feel *authentic* when she spoke. It seemed like before she said anything, her dialog went through several "filters" so she doesn't upset her supporters, special-interest donors and/or undecided voters. So what finally came out her mouth was a whole lot of words without saying nothing (aka "politician answer"). I think that's the biggest reason people had a hard time "connecting" with Hillary.... or at least it was for me (even though I still voted for her).
@valerierodger77006 жыл бұрын
undrtakr900 Funny, because I found her answers had a whole lot more substance than Trump's - he was clearly BSing about things he didn't ubderstand. I agree, though, about the connection. Hillary made the mistake of think that voters rationally examine the positions of all the candidates and decide based on that. They don't. Most voters have only a superficial understanding of the issues, and vote based on "feelings" (i.e. "Trump feels honest, what he says feels true" even when facts clearly show otherwise). Trump won because he inspired anger, stoked resentment, named scapegoats, and said he would destroy them. His voters followed their emotions. Dems need to understand that Obama won for the same reason. Yes, he has a brilliant legal mind and a strong record of public service, but his appeal to hope and "Yes we can" was what caught people's hearts and won the elections.

Lena Dunham wrote about epsiodes wher, to most people, she moelsted her own sister. She also has a history of twiting out ibflammatory/offensive comments. So I understand why her comment would be dismissed..

Pokemon Go check your research. Hillary Clinton has a combination of passé political strategy combined with a general lack of charisma. I can see that people are bringing their misogyny to the table in interviews, but you did also cherry pick the interviews but whatever, the reality is that she genuinely lacks a degree of reliability and you're being straight up obtuse if you work in TV and are refuse to acknowledge that HRC was fraught with PR problems before going into the election. Which was over a year ago so yeah, timing. Warmest Regards, Some Guy on the Internet.

Half of the comments towards Clinton don't even come close to misogyny or sexism. Bee uses a very real issue to defend a presidential candidate that was simply a horrible choice, and way past the point where any of it matters anwyay. You can't frame it like any negative comments towards a female candidate's charisma (not that's the only issue with HC) must necessarily be motivated by gender bias, that's simply dishonest.

I love Sam and how she calls out BS when she sees it, but I cringe every time she makes blanket statements about (white) men (and I am a female of color). She needs to understand that this is not how you influence those who are watching this and trying to be more "woke", only to feel convinced that (white) men are actually "under attack" (which they are not!!).

MsZephyra because even good men put a blind eye to these things and all men need to be held accountable

Hillary lost. Get over it. Time to move on to a better female candidate in 2020. Elizabeth Warren or Tulsi Gabbard 2020!
