In any other administration, Miller’s views would have been seen as racist of course but also the product of a myopic neophyte without the necessary critical thinking skills, foresight, and tact to advise the president. Most people’s worse thoughts about others are often moderated by exposure to other views, cultures and in DC, the nature of compromise required to govern in a bicameral legislative government. Miller’s racism, unchanged despite exposure to contradictory information due to his schooling and work, must therefore be seen as integral to his self-esteem and a danger to civil discussions on any related topic. Under normal circumstances that would ensure he’d not be allowed in the White House for anything other than the public tour just because of the optics. But it’s a new, sad day.
