Both products represent exceptional value....keep in mind the commercial equivalent is well over £10k! Three big things to be aware of. 1. Samples need to be degassed (fairly easy) and clear (not so easy) 2. As video states the Smart Ref on own is useless measuring fermented beer where the OG is unknown. 3. Need to clean with distilled water. If buying one then get EasyDens....its fab. Put both together to get ABV....very cool. Worth also noting can synchronise app with Tilt.

Fantastic piece of kit, bought one a while ago, direct from the company. Little did I realise that the price shown was different to what I ended up paying. Before it was delivered I needed to pay an extra £70 I think. Not happy at the time, but looking back now it’s been well worth it, and I love the toys. Looks like the SmartRef will be on the shopping list soon. As for the fragility, I must have a tough one. I’ve been super careful handling my kit, but last brew day the wife knocked it off the table, about 1.2m drop, 🤬🤬, and exclaimed, “Oops!!”. To say I was livid was an understatement, fortunately it survived, but for future use it will be well out of her way.

You had a lucky escape! Glad you like the Easydens, adding the SmartRef completes the package.

Making any small batch, of anything, beer, wine, seltzer, even distillation, Small batch small test sample is the best. I need one of these, nothing worse than making a gallon batch size, having a stuck fermentation and using the hydrometer three and even four times, if you're not careful, you won't have anything left to drink and enjoy

That's a great point and something I wish we had mentioned in the main video!

Looking forward to a “lab-level” pH meter video, not necessarily from AP, to enhance your range of essential quality instruments.

Great product but not really for the homebrewer @near to £700 for both. It is good for a smaller commercial brewery but only if it is HMRC accredited
@themaltmiller84382 ай бұрын
We’ve been surprised at how many home brewers have picked these up! As we said though, it’s not an essential bit off kit, but for those who love technology and want to get lab accuracy in their records, it’s a great option.

@@themaltmiller8438 There must be too much disposable income for a homebrewer who can determine their Gravities and ABV with the method used for years even by professional brewers yes their hydrometers may be slightly more accurate but £700 to be maybe 1 point more accurate is neither here or there. A very usable piece of kit for professionals but that money could be spent on other brewing equipment that will advance your brewing much more than having a accurate ABV to 2 decimal points. Ps are these units accredited by the HMRC for submissions of gravity readings?

Is the EasyDens HMRC accredited?

Nice bit of kit, but price wise far too fierce for homebrew.

Interesting. Only one more measurement left to crack. I would like to see Anton Parr, or Lovibond (or a collab between the two) produce a similar sized and scale, pocket sized ECB Comparator for measuring Beer Colour. These are the main measurements that any Homebrewer (would Dream Wish List for) or Microbrewer would be interested in. An additionalQA tool that would take incoming raw material analysis to, "the Next Level" would be a hand held NIR Scanner/Analyser for Hops and Malt. This could be simply a, "down and dirty, " "rough and ready," assessment of grain or hop (pellet) quality and localised tracking of seasonal variation in raw materials. Lastly, whilst much can be don with Pool or Well Water test kits, a simplified and streamlined mechanism for determining the mineral composition in tap water and/or bacterial/viral loading would also be a hit. Having travelled and brewed in different parts of the world I can honestly say that, "Water Quality Analysis is not cheap or easy to access." Period. For Homebrewers to take gain greater(self) control over such information, and their own brewing process, such tools in small scale, "near enough for Government work" accuracy are desperately needed.

Hi, it's amazing the level of equipment that is now available and I am sure these will be followed up by more given the popularity AP has seen. I do know that malt and hop testing is extremely expensive at the moment, but so was was lab level Gravity and alcohol ready just a while back.

If you could only afford one, which one would you get?

EasyDens - the ability to get the exact gravity with no need to adjust the results or use loads of beer or wort for the samples makes it the first choice, if we had to pick one above the other
@theimpatientbrewer2 ай бұрын
I would love an EasyDens, but they are so expensive. For the amount I brew, it's just not practical.

Fully understand, these products are not for everyone. We like to represent the whole market which is why we have video content on entry level equipment, as well as spendy bits;)

Quicker using the old school anyhow, im my opinion

Great kit but way, way, way out of most homebrewers reach.
@themaltmiller84382 ай бұрын
It really is great but it's not something for all home brewers, but there are a group that are keen on this approach and the accuracy it offers them.
@devilmaycare28092 ай бұрын
@@themaltmiller8438 Totally agree but for that amount of money I can think of many things I'd rather have to improve my brewing experience.

Hi chaps. Can you use the smart ref on its own?
@themaltmiller84382 ай бұрын
Yes you can! It works independently of EasyDens, as a refractometer.
@jiffy1762 ай бұрын
But that wouldn't do an accurate post fermentation read is that correct. Would still need a correction for the alcohol?

This type of equipment isn't for everyone, we see it as our job to let brewers know what is available. Inevitably as technology increases, the prices for this type of product will get lower.
