I realized with your TOTH (top of the hour) I can take it a step further and reset my day at anytime as well. This is so useful if you’re dealing with depression or a difficult relationship and you just feel down. I don’t t need to wait until tomorrow or when i feel better, even if I’m in my pajamas at 3pm i can decide to reset my day in 15 minutes. 5 minutes self-care (brush teeth, wash face, clean lounge wear&shoes, water w/ electrolytes), 5 minutes in the kitchen for a room rescue (always the worst), a 1 minute bed making, 2 minute swish and swipe, 2 minute hot spot (likely the living room coffee table where I’ve been procrastinating all day) that ends the 15 minutes and i feel so much better. This breaks the cycle and provides the momentum needed to recapture your joy and life.

With my unusual work schedule, 4 nights of the week I don't even walk in the door until 9pm. What has saved our family is a meal kit service. I felt guilty about it initially but it has made such a difference for us. My sons have learned some great cooking skills following the recipe cards. My husband readily digs in and prepares a meal on his own without prompting. I plan 3 dinners a week for the nights I am home. Fed family members are happy family members so this is what works for us!

A huge part of my evening routine is "putting my kitchen to bed." I heard that expression and just love it and just like Weekly Home Blessing it has become part of my life. I'm a wordy soul, so words and phrases touch me and stay with me and these two really work for me. 🙂

Dimming the lights after the "work" part of evening routine so I internally start to slow down is very helpful. I need to be able to wind down so when I go to bed, I can fall asleep easily. My incentive to keep going...get it done...is having time to be able to read a book or listen to an audiobook with a cup of tea. This feels like a reward to myself for getting everything done as early as is possible. 💐 The last part of evening routine, my husband and I pray together.🙏 End on a high note feeling refreshed to start again in the morning. 🌞

I am beginning flylady and I have found the app to be helpful because I like checking things off. I was doing well, my sink was shining, I was on top of Mount Washmore, I was swishing and swiping......but then due to an event I got completely behind. It has taken me 1.5 weeks to start feeling back on track. But this morning my sink was shining and I smiled because last night me gave a gift to morning me.

Step one (after dinner) tidy the kitchen and the sink, wear my pjs, watch a movie and then read several chapters of the book of the week My advise for an easy sleep reduce screen watching time i.e. TV, laptop, mobile etc. I am relatively lucky because we are only 3 adults living at home so we all contribute to cleaning I suspect they mainly do it to get off without me telling them "do this do that". Also for a good night's sleep please try not to worry for things that you cannot fix and for things that you can fix. Thank God that you are safe and healthy at your place with so much international unrest and the pandemic.

Hi Diane. Just wanted to thank you and let you know that between you and Steph, the Secret Slob, you have changed my life. My son and I have our morning and evening routines and we use Steph’s Weekly Cleaning Schedule to list and check off. I also write my Daily Focus, zones and menus. So I use your methods and Steph’s checklist because My son likes a visual all in one place. My free time has increased. Thanks so much Diane - I'm really enjoying these case study videos! I've recently made a change to my evening routine, inspired by you, that has made a big difference. I used to leave clearing the kitchen 'til the end of the night, just before bed. I never ever go to bed without doing it, but I would find that I was so tired at that point, the thought of all the work I still had left to do would feel so daunting, I would delay getting up off the sofa to start, ironically making myself even later for bed when I was very tired. I've now changed this so that I clear the kitchen and prepare tomorrow's breakfast straight after I've eaten dinner, when I'm less tired, and then make myself a cup of tea and can relax and enjoy the rest of my evening, knowing it's already done. I'm finding it much easier to stick to my intended bedtime (something I've struggled with for so long) because when it's time to start getting ready for bed, I don't feel overwhelmed at the prospect of how much I still have left to do and actually get up off the sofa! I simply re-set the living room and I'm ready to head upstairs. Thanks so much for helping me make this change. I'm interpreting all your advice as best I can for my own situation but I'd love it if you did a video sometime please for single people who live alone. I know people with kids probably think we've got it made, and I know I'm lucky that the only person I have to clear up after is me, but the flip side of that can be that there's nobody else to do anything but me! It would just be really helpful and encouraging to hear your advice for people in that situation, but I'll also keep doing my bit to interpret what you say in a way that applies for me. Thanks so much for everything you do to help and inspire us!

You are indeed the bright spot in my day. This one has helped me recognize why evening routine fail more often then not. I am exhausted by 6 or 7 pm. Dinner and dishes can be done, seldom other items, so I pupa when I get home, set out my clothes as I put away laundry, landing pad is where things get dropped as I enter house, so no looking for stuff, and add anything else that needs done to sometime earlier in the day. And I don't feel guilty if something gets missed, It is better than before, and perfection is no longer my goal, which means my life has more space for happiness. Thank you for all your great advice and happy attitude...you add uplift to my life ❤

Also, making a list for your kids keeps you from being "the bad guy'. I found when my son was little that when he had a list of what he was to do it was the list telling him, not Mom. Instead of me having to say "do x y and z" , he was accountable to the list (checking the list to see what he forgot instead of mom telling him). My overseeing things became minimal and helped us both. Works with husbands too 😂.
@ellenh2782 жыл бұрын
@@user-nt7dv8ep9m I found writing a list of things that needed his attention better than mentioning them and many times repeatedly mentioning things. Because often when I'd think of something to mention it wasn't always the best time for him to be really listening. I write it down when I'm thinking of it, he reads it when his attention isn't elsewhere.

You are inspiring. I started getting our vitamins and breakfast glasses and dishes out before bed so I do not have ot find them in the morning. It is little, but saves some time. I also clean the sink at night before bed. My husband likes to snack at night and goes to bed after me and gets up before me so I pick up the kitchen and give the counters a wipe when I get up in the morning before I start breakfast. I would love to go to bed with a clean kitchen and it stay that way, but my reset in the morning works to get me started on the right foot.

For example, if i make lasagna- i’ll make two and freeze one and while i’m at it, i will brown extra meat and put with a sauce to freeze for a spaghetti dish , tacos, shepherds pie ect. It takes an extra 5 minutes but saves hours later on since i all i have t do is reheat mostly when ready. I will follow your Facebook. I started to have an evening routine after watching one of your videos and I can honestly say, that it improved my life so much! In the evenings after work I am usually tired and worn out, so before I left stuff until next day, thinking that tomorrow will be better, until things piled up so much, that I got overwhelmed (which obviously also did not help). Please help! Fly baby here. 👋🏼 I have allergies pretty bad (probably cuz my house is chaos). I'm looking for a solution to dusting quickly that doesn't kick up everything into the air, for the weekly home blessing. Feather dusters are an absolute NO! The dust flying in the air feels like my house is trying to kill me. Usually, when I dust (being honest isn't very often) I get a wet rag take everything off the shelf or whatever, wipe it down, then wipe everything off as I put it away. I can't do this in 10 mins... I guess I could do one shelf a week but that doesn't seem very productive. Just looking for some suggestions so I don't obsess over something so little and I can get this house under control.
@DianeinDenmark2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I haven't had that problem when feather dusting but if you aren't cleaning regularly then obviously it might fly around. Perhaps wear a mask and use some kind of swiffer cloth the first couple of times, until you have it under control. (We dust once a week which is sufficient for our home.)

I tell myself I’ll get around to organizing that other space another day. Any recommendations for Type 3’s?

Hi Jane! Assign a special basket or tray for those items (a "catch all"). You empty it once a day to the correct area. Bi more random flying objects or dumping things behind doors! LOL! Hope that helps!

What is a "rota"?
@DianeinDenmark2 жыл бұрын
A list showing when each of a number of people has to do a particular job. For example, a "cleaning rota". Same as a schedule, list, timetable, roster... 😊

I just can't seem to get in the habit of cleaning up my kitchen in the evening

What are you doing to make it a more enjoyable task? Playing music while you work, lighting a candle or using a diffuser? Rewarding yourself afterwords with phone or tv time?

What happens if things take longer than 5 mins / 15 mins etc (even with focus and doing things?). Forget kids, I don’t trust myself OR the alarms and timers 🤣 Single and trying my best 🙈

If things take longer, you simply add more 5 / 15 / whatever mins sessions for that special purpose. Which doesn't mean you do more within one day, but over time. Your place didn't get messed up within one day. So do not expect it to be straightened out in one day. ;-)
