I love that the seven princes are all named after very well known characters in fairy tales, and their powers and abilities reflect that. With Arthur and Merlin it's obvious, a swordsman and a wizard. Hans is based on the Hansel and Gretel story where Hansel is force fed sweets to fatten him up so the witch can eat him. And Hans in this story is a cook who's weapon of choice is a shield that doubles as a cooking pan. Jack, who I'm assuming is based on Jack and the Beanstalk, who is a thief and steals valuable treasures from a giant. Jacks tool is an invisibility cloak, and he tries to impress Red Shoes with valuable jewels. Pino, Noki and Kio. When you put their names together, you get Pinocchio. They are the three inventors, their mecca-soldier looks like Pinocchio with its long nose, and is made of wood. I love this detail. Plus it makes it easier to give each of the characters depth, with very distinct personality.

The movie is more Beauty and the beast with the difference being Beauty is on the inside and Beast is more narcissistic and self absorbed than angry or violent. Red Shoes vs Snow White is more about Merlins views on beauty than her opinion of herself. This movie seems to me to be more about Merlin than Snow White as he has the biggest character arch.

I loved the hell out of this movie, I found it from Saberspark's video on it too and, honestly, I thought it was even better than he made it sound. Seriously, the first time I watched it, I smiled, practically, the entire movie, it was so cute and creative. Merlin's monologue with his dwarf self was, surprisingly, my favorite scene, because of how cute and simple, but, effective it was. I did like like Regina, I know she's not very complex (like, Mother Gothel), but, the way I see it, the Evil Queen's motive in the fairy tale really isn't all that deep, at least, to me. So, I felt she was fairly serviceable. In regards to the animation, maybe this is me, but, every time someone took damage in this movie, I FELT it, like, it REALLY looked like it hurt. Also, the magic mirror deserves some recognition, not only were his interactions with Regina entertaining, but, damn Patrick Warburton honestly killed it in the voice acting department. That moment where he was tormenting Merlin, he was downright _menacing_ , it honestly disturbs me.

I’m fangirling about Prince Average💕 I keep smiling seeing his scenes This movie truly fascinating and really makes me happy. I would say it helped me accept myself but I already did lmao. The action scenes make me smile because they’re SO GOOD AND CREATIVE. The fairy Princess is underrated and beautiful and I wanna see more of her. All of the F7 are so cute! I also would like to point out that, before Average comes to Risky Rock and when we see Merlin farming, they show a wide shot before zooming into him, you can see where that farm is, and Merlin himself at the farm. They even animated his movement so the movement before the zoom-in coincides with the continued movement when they zoom in! They could've shown the front of Risky Rock, or just showed Merlin zoomed in, but they explicitly showed the farm and Merlin in a wide shot and then zoomed in.

I love how the movie never seems to put Snow White's weight as a cause of in activity, over eating or any of the other things people contribute to bigger girls. You see her climbing, moving heavy objects, swimming and running. There even the part at the beginning where she says about being able to bench 250, which shows she does some form of professional exercise. She also mentions how she is compared to her dad adding to how her appearance is genetic, which can also be seen in the diary scene as we see her growing up and maintaining the same body shape.

The thing I like most about Merlin's character arc is that it is not only about seeing the true beauty of Snow, but also of himself. Also I really like how he is clearly not in love with Red Shoes at the beginning. She is more of a tool to break the curse to him.

I loved this movie so much - I genuinely was not ready for how funny and wholesome it was - The movie was perfect from start to finish right down to the credits for goodness sake. Also Merlin is a snacc and once you get Merlin you can’t merlout. But anywhoooo other characters I loved: how endearing the triplets were they were a fabulous duo - the three little bears were MVPS for sure - And the mirror was honestly a dyslexic comedy King - Snow White was the moment 👏👏

i saw a promotional clip of this film wayyy back. the premise was that the F7, blue dwarves i think, were hired to steal the shoes back. they were enamored by snow though, until she took of her shoes. the video was really tasteless and rude, so i was put off watching the movie, even though i loved the style of animation. some time later, i saw it had been released, so i went and watched it with the notion that i would dislike it, but at least enjoy the animation. loved it. still do. its not a perfect movie, but it makes me very happy.

I just saw Red Shoes a few weeks ago, also in response of Saberspark's video. I gotta say, I really liked it. It was cute and funny, I don't know who made me laugh more between the Mirror and Prince Average. The romantic storyline was surprisingly sweet and insightful. I also think it's creative how the curse worked. Also, GIRL, I spent the whole movie trying not to think about how handsome Merlin was. They had no right making him that cute.

About the F7, I really liked how the film showed, that the curse did not only affect their appearance, but also their performance. Pino, Niko and Kio seem to be affected the least by it, probably because they are used to their new bodies the most from hardly ever changing back due to being constantly together. Also Hans is eating dog food in his cursed form so yeah the effects of the curse seem to be a bit deeper than just looks.

I think all the characters have an inner issue with their outer appearances: Snow: being overweight Merlin: being short(mostly) Regina: being old Mirror: being sick Prince Average: being plain(or too average) -> he eats the apple in order to become powerful They all try to fix these outer "issues" with "magic" but Snow and Merlin realize the lesson of true self-love while the rest are destroyed by their desires and self-hate. So you may ask why add prince Average? Well he is needed because the movie wants to fully address all the issues that might make us humans feel insecure. Also avoid the trap of stereotyping "insecure"&"ugly"= "overweight". Because so many things can make us feel ugly while people who are overweight could be totally fine with their looks this simply is not true. So I Looove how they put in even being "too plain" can cause insecurity! It really doesn't matter how you look, it's all subjective. Also the 3 children who were cursed as bears are complete opposites. Because they are children and aren't prejudiced yet they are comfortable "just as they are" whether they are "under a spell" or not.
