This movie is a rare breed and I enjoyed watching it alone and with my family so if you're looking for a movie to watch with the kids, friends and family or just alone this is a good watch! It's really wonderful and funny in it's own way.
The revisions I made also have plot holes, but I didn't include points to fix those because I just did it for fun and the video would be longer if I went too serious into just revising a movie that I enjoyed hahaha, that would be weird.
I just realized I kept mispronouncing some of the names.
From "Rudy" to "Rudolf", "Louis (louie)" to "Louis", "Nat wolf" to "Nate wolf"
Oh well!! I must've been tired when I recorded it I can barely remember, but I hope it was still enjoyable to watch even with those errors.

Fun Fact: Odette is also an original French name. There is also a famous Odette in history, the Medieval mistress Odette de Champdivers. Her character inspired also the part of the French national heroine "Odette" in the ballet "Odetta" and the opera "Charles VI", so the name was famous even before the Swan Lake ballet and so it's likely that the movie character is named here Odette. It's possible Tchaikovsky, whose mother was French, took inspiration for his Swan Lake ballet from the French national heroine. Curiously, Siegfried, the prince's name, is the ultimate German national hero. In my opinion, Swan lake was supposed to help crossing borders, as it's also today known on the whole world...

What I really appreciated is how Camille's arc went. The "I do ballet because... my mom wants me to", that realisation as she is just an vicarious instrument of her mom's ambitions. But it's also interesting to see how her mom thought she was doing what was best for her daughter

Watched your review yesterday and definitely thinking of watching the film. I like that Félicie wants to be a ballerina. Nowadays there's a trend of the protagonist being "not like other girlsTM" bc she can do something that apparently no other girl in the world can do. I like that Félicie was different in an upbringing way (orphanage with presumably a working class background), rather than an insufferable way like we see in some films. I also really like Odette! It's so nice to see a disabled character who isn't magically healedTM at the end in order to have a happy ending. She gets a happy ending of her own. Love that.

@@k-rhynncyrhyss4691 Right like I really liked him both with Asami and Korra. With Asami he was very calm and acted more like himself. He wanted to better himself to fit with Asami and he and her just clicked. Korra and Mako was very cute and innocent like, they both had a crush on eachother and sorta(very little tho)complimented eachother. With Korra he felt comfortable. Not only that, although they were together he felt like he was just talking to a friend and that he didn’t need to change himself to impress her at all. They really did Asami dirty because she really liked Mako and you could see her hurt everytime she was around him. With Korra however, she was angry but she got over it very quickly. Not only that, Korra and Mako argued a lot so it kinda reminded me of a Zuko and Mai 2.0. It’s sad because I liked them just a tad bit more than Mako and Asami but yea. Also his character was actually pretty interesting as well and had they develop him, he in my opinion would’ve become very likable.

Rename some characters, change the plot just a bit more, and you have a really great original movie on your hands!
@spookypeanut8800
@spookypeanut8800 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think renaming the characters is a good idea. The thing is, this movie isn't just taking place in France, it was made in France, those are just French names. Of course, in the English dub it sounds out of place because it's a different language and the actors don't know how to properly pronounce those but changing the names would take away from the authenticity. You can't just give anglo-saxon names to every character regardless of cultural context, if someone made a movie taking place in feodal Japan and named the main character Kyle Smith then people would be offended or at the very least say it's totally dumb. The names are great because if your hear them in their original context, the French dub, they fit perfectly, the only reason they bother you is because of cultural dissonance.
@maddiemelody9001
@maddiemelody9001 3 жыл бұрын
@@spookypeanut8800 I actually meant to rename them so if she was to make an original movie (like I said in the comment), she wouldn’t get copyrighted; I actually love their names, and would recommend giving French names to respect the movie’s setting. The only name I thought wasn’t great in the movie was Odette, as it’s very overused in ballet films; they could keep the ballet-inspired name for the mentor, but would recommend a more subtle reference (Giselle, Clara, Dulcinea, even Odile)

For a family-friendly movie, I would say it's very good with its message and themes, and I could see why people like this movie. However, as someone who has had experience with both ballet and classical music...this movie's kinda a mess to me, sorry. While the animation is really good, gorgeous even, there are some questionable scenes with their flexibility and strength. And in most of the movie, Feliciy's not even doing ballet! She's dancing jazz/contemporary. I agree with you on the music aspect though. It seemed like there was missed potential (could've used waltz of the snowflakes). I also find it unrealistic how someone could master ballet in a few weeks, beating out, mind you, a fully trained ballerina who's been training for YEARS. And the reason being: emotion. This would be the case for other ballet movies as well (looking at you American Girl). It's becoming such a cliche (rarely done right) in stories that musicians or dancers win because "they aren't pouring their heart and soul into it". At least in a film like Ballet Shoes, another underrated film, while that cliche is relevant, we understand the characters and their development and why they lost without it needing to be forced in our brains that their hearts aren't into it. Another great example is Kenrantaru Grande Scene (manga). In one of the chapters, yes, one of our main characters, Sakura, lost because "she didn't put her heart into it", but she at least has the technicalities down and we understand that her emotions and why she feels what she feels. But in here, we're just meant to assume Camilla's suppose to lose because apparently she doesn't have emotions. That doesn't mean I don't like this movie for its message, and its story and characters as a whole, far from it, the fact that this movie exists makes me happy; its just that I wouldn't love it as a ballet movie. Not the best, but not the worst either. Apologies for the rant, and thanks for coming to my ted talk. Edit: also love your revision, easily makes for a refreshing dynamic. I suggest you check out both Kenrantaru Grande Scene and Ballet Shoes. PLEASE PLEASE check them out! Edit edit: I have watched a bit of Princess Tutu, but while its ballet is a little more "accurate", I thought of this anime more as a fairy tale than anything else, which by no means is a bad thing. I love its use of music and the characters are both endearing and relevant to the story.

I am in a professional training division for ballet at a company. And yes. This was my problem with it too. I am always happy to get more representation for ballet.. but it was super unrealistic. Like the first day she came, she was god awful but then in 3 DAYS, she was suddenly better than someone who had trained their whole life. I would have enjoyed the movie more if it took place over a longer period of time.

I like watching the movie for Odette and Merot, but the rest is not so enjoyable to me so I skip most of it. Which is kinda sad when you think about how much more it could’ve been. I only just found out about this video today but this is great! I have a strong personal attachment to "Leap!", seeing the movie in theaters in 2017 expanded my world to a whole new world and I feel kind of a similar way to the movie as you do. I love watching it and feeling inspired/motivated to do well in my dream goals, but from an analysis standpoint there are things in the movie that could be improved. Even then, some annoying jokes from Victor, a motivational but kind of unfitting soundtrack, and a few weird historical discrepancies don't ruin the experience for me. It's wonderful seeing someone discuss such their impressions on the movie in a detailed and open-minded fashion. I thought your revision ideas were very interesting, neat to see Victor from a different angle. Keep up the great work!
