I think that this may have something to do with female rage. Some,thing about the overly polite smiles, feminine clothing and flowery weapon makes me think of how women’s rage is still shown as something non threatening, inconsequential, and attractive in some way and that women as a whole are forced into being polite sweet and cheerful no matter what(this is obviously changing in some places now). The overall vibe makes me think of the 50/70’s which would add onto this theory

everyone who doubts that Beyonce has stolen the creative work from the visuals of this needs to go and look up international copyright law in relation to creative works/intellectual property. It's not just that there's a woman walking around smashing cars, but the copying includes the slow motion, the flowing dress, the look of glee on the woman's face, the people walking around very obviously seeing but not intervening in the situation. It makes all the same implications with the same visual and emotive tools. The only way Beyonce might get away with it is because she is wearing a different coloured dress, looks different herself, and has different audio to go with it.
@athousandcandles

+CClaessens and the reason it isn't fair in this situation is that Beyonce is a BIG TIME artist who can make MILLIONS from this scene- without acknowledging the actual creator of the idea. It's not as if she changed it significantly- only minutely. Taking not just the idea, but the whole execution of the idea. That's stealing.

Yeah right, Leonardo Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa, someone else copies and gets all the praise because it's called art and artists takes ideas from each other. That is one of the silliest things I've ever read on You Tube. Now, it a world of fairness, good sense and merit the original artist is the real artist and is supposed to get all the praise and admiration and the one who copied is a lame non-creative anti-art thief (Beyoncè in this case, no wonder why her entire catalog is a collection of copy-pasted visuals and concepts).

Beautiful, dreamy video. As distracting as these thoughts are... I can't help but think about the logistics of this. Are the smashed cars planted there, or did the artist attempt to find the owners to pay for the damages after? What was clean up like? Did she get any 'permissions' to film this, or just start walking along the street? And gosh, the police sure are nice where ever this was filmed (I can only assume the other pedestrians were actors?)

It was difficult to find when you don't know the name of it and there are only a few articles about it (from people who saw the connection themselves - not because they were informed by someone connected to Beyoncé). If she wanted to reference and pay homage to these artists she should be talking about them also.

People are so obsessed that they do the research and get it on the internet within an hour of the album hitting. Besides whenever she rightfully uses someone’s work no one cares to look more into that person, but when there’s controversy she and the artist get an endless stream of publicity. These artists are fine, they’re being paid and receiving recognition they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.

anthill927 there are soooooooo many books I could list that are similar to each other. plot, climax, characters, etc. many writers come up with ideas by using or being inspired by other writers. it's a crime when they copy and paste word for word like they did with Blurred Lines, but Beyonce took the idea of smashing cars and completely changed it. She didn't wear the same outfit or was in the same city or etc. she just took the idea of smashing cars and connected with her own ideas/interpretation. There are many videos similar to this and I'm pretty sure the person behind this video got inspired by another.
