16:07 Technically, you start the game in winter and move into spring when you perform the first Prepare for Season action. From a thematic standpoint, this is why resources are so scarce in the first round. Autumn will be your final round as you are making preparations to go into the next winter season. Minor detail though! Love your playthroughs--they have influenced me to purchase several games over the years!

Great content. I appreciate the thoughtful production. The camera framing, and editing between angles, is well considered. The audio is clear and pleasant. AYou both have well paced, friendly speaking manners that inform and explains without being overly showy. And the game space is very nice. I'm a fan of the channel. Pearlbrook hasn't gotten a lot of plays at our house. While we don't dislike it, per se, I feel the good doesn't out weigh the bad enough to justify the additional set up. I do like the adornments a lot. They give you some hidden goals and add a little asymmetry, which I think is fantastic. I also like the way Pearlbook increases the value of, and need for, card draw. But, I don't like the high value of the Wonders. I think they encourage less efficient, less interesting play, where you just grab maximum resources for most of the game, then buying whatever wonders you can afford towards the end. I'm pretty neutral towards the Ambassador mechanic, and I'm not sure it really makes the game more fun. In the end, I'd rather have the base game free of the Pearlbrook components, so it is easier to add the Spirecrest expansion, which I adore. We agree with your assessment of the slow meadow and deck cycling for 2-player games. We generally use the Border Variant to see more cards. It doesn't require extra setup, is very easy, and doesn't change the game play in any other way. boardgamegeek.com/filepage/172604/border-variant-everdell __ The empty Forest location represents the Border, where Everdell residents are moving from the realm to try to make it on their own. Perhaps they can be drawn back into your city. Setup: The empty Forest location becomes the Border pile. Begin the game with no cards in the Border pile. New Rule: When one or more Meadow card are replaced, also take one card from the draw pile and add it face up to the top of the Border pile. The top card of the Border pile may be played or drawn as if it were part of the Meadow, but is not replaced.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, when you were adding your creature cards, the wife's purple 'prosperity bonus' is 3 in ADDITION to its card value of 2...so you would get 5 points instead of just the 3 you counted. Not that it changes who won...but just a rules clarification.

4:10 “pebbles,” not “stones” :D 11:45 There is a HARD hand limit of 8. You cannot get rid of them unless you take an action that allows you to. (e.g. haven spot), and you cannot draw past the limit. The game plays very different otherwise. 19:51 with the two stone spot and a crane, she could easily build the crane into a courthouse into a judge which gives any construction resource and allows substitutions when building, at that point the three twig becomes super valuable for her and her engine is off and running, Also, with two governance cards she could visit a spot with the frog ambassador that turn,

We have played Everdell several times, definitely a family favourite, but haven't cracked open the Pearlbrook yet. I was wondering what it added to the gameplay, good to see it doesn't overwhelm the basic mechanics. My 4-year old son (who has played the game) was watching and said "we should go to their house to play!" :)

Regarding the fireworks event card. There is no card called "tower". Actually, "Lookout" was meant on this card. In the Pearlbrook expansion, there should be the corrected version of this event.

If you guys do come around to playing this again, there is variant for two players that addresses the issue of not being able to comb through the deck as quickly: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2051059/2-player-variant-border This really helps and makes an already awesome two player experience that much better

8 card hand limit, and if you're going to exceed that then you just don't draw the card. So he was wrong. Also, she forgot to activate her courthouse when she built the fairground around 41 minutes! I only notice because I CONSTANTLY forget about my blue card powers.

@@AntLabGames I feel like your movements and voice is more punchy (thumpy bass) and a bit more hot but it's slight and until I was prompted to think about it, I just assumed you had a heavier hand and a deeper voice. Loved the video! You made such an important comment: replayability is in the different strategies one plays. I often wonder why game publishers, designers put such a huge stress on giving us players more and more components to make each game a "different experience". I feel it has become like a hook we consumers are expected to bite on. When in reality that experience I think lies more within us: how we play, how we react, what path we take. Chess has no variability in setup, no fancy components, no expansions have come out in the last couple of decades and yet....
@wicked85764 жыл бұрын
and frances is right, everdell definitely needs an adaptation for 2-player-games, reducing the deck.. that's what I love about games like Agricola, there are cards that aren't used with lower player counts. but there are mechanics to draw cards and I don't mind if you don't go through the deck each game.. (only have played Everdell solo or 2-player so far btw!)
@johnrudolph90023 жыл бұрын
There is a 2 player Border Variant online that addresses the card issue.
@wicked85763 жыл бұрын
@@johnrudolph9002 funny thing is, recently played the game as 2-player with spirecrest expansion, and we almost got through the whole deck.. :-O maybe, I played something wrong on my first playthroughs..? :)

Everdell is one of my FAVORITE games. So glad you covered it! With that said, I also had some mixed feelings on Pearblrook, as it added more to a game that didn't feel like it needed more. I'm not sure if you play with house rules or variants, but here is one I created for Everdell (plus expansion content) that addresses the 2 player issues you noted. boardgamegeek.com/thread/2273746/everdell-remixed-variant-deck-bloat-down-favorite
