Excellent documentary. Tenzing is one of two people who first summited Everest. Stating he accompanied his fellow summiteer undermines his own achievement as a mountaineer in his own country.

Great point Jean! I certainly meant no disrespect by saying he "accompanied" Hillary. It was most likely the other way around... The sherpa people have never received the recognition they deserve!!!

@johnmckay719
@johnmckay719 Жыл бұрын
That's awesome eliseo! You CAN use US dollars some places in Nepal, but you might not get a fair conversion. I would suggest exchanging to nepali rupees when you get there. There are exchange places all over the place in Kathmandu (not just the airport). I tipped our guys, in rupees, the equivalent about $300 US. I think most people tip about $10 -$15 per day.

Also, you'll want to give your tip to your head sherpa (at the end of your trip). They'll distribute it to the whole team evenly. I believe it might be culturally frowned upon for each sherpa to be receiving tips directly. Hope that helps...

As for cash in the mountains, there are no banks/ATM's after Namche, so I would bring a couple hundred dollars for stuff you might need while on trail. Hope that helps! Buena suerte!!!

Great video, and well videographed. Some of the music was too raucous and incongruous with the scene, example approaching the Hillary Bridge. Different music would have worked better.

Was the helicopter flight part of the package or the usual insurance fraud?
@johnmckay719
@johnmckay719 2 жыл бұрын
The helicopter flight back down to Lukla was not part of the package and wasn't insurance fraud. It was sort of a last minute decision that our lead guide managed to arrange for us. We split the cost so it really wasn't that bad at all.
