I have always LOVED the Everly Brothers. I can remember being in first grade walking hand in hand with my best friend as we sang Dream and we knew all the words. Wake up little Susie was used to unmercifully tease my sister Susie. Bird Dog was flat out fun. Let it be Me, hauntingly beautiful. Send a Message to Mary and Ebony Eyes brought us to tears. Cathy's Clown brought the house down. Bye Bye Love goes without saying. These guys earned every award and their place in rock and roll history.
The Everly's changed my life and musical taste. I was always a rock chick until I discovered the Everly Bros. So much talent! I now have traced down all of their Albums and couldn't be happier!

For so many of these talents, they are lucky if they have 1/2 dozen songs in the top ten. And inevitably there is a leveling off. I sometimes think even Elvis Presley had realized he had become a satire of his own existence. Johnny & June Carter Cash playing to near empty venues in Branson, Missouri . The audience is blessed with the memory of those few golden hits they had. The artists, have to make the best of it as they can, and sometimes it is a bitter fruit for them.
@pamelahay62423 жыл бұрын
Audiences are fickle oft times, and music business managers, recording labels, media….. care less about artists, more about their own financial gain and constantly seek the “ new best thing”. The same thing happened with the Smothers Brothers (related) and the Righteous Brothers (unrelated but friends since high school). The Smo Bros and R Bros may not have come to blows however and they weren't in the biz as early as the EBs were.

Great documentary. I really enjoyed it but I was hoping that they would mention their friendship with Simon and Garfunkel. They did shows and performed on stage with them. I didn't realize this until recently, but the beautiful harmonies you hear in the background on Paul Simon's song "Graceland," (one of my favorite songs of all time) are The Everly Brothers.

The tightest and most influential duo in rock and roll. Brothers' voices blend so well but both were really good solo singers. Maybe they could have tried making albums of a mixture of solo and duo performances of each thus keeping everybody's ego intact and simultaneously letting the public realize and maybe accepting this facet. As for the aspect of who sings lead - personally and technically I consider the harmony parts the most difficult and satisfying as my own built in prejudice is everybody can sing lead. :)

@jgmiller - A documentary produced by the BBC describes the Scotch-Irish heritage of the Appalachian families who settled in Kentucky. But I do believe there was a Cherokee strain on Margaret Everly's side because she looks so much like the Cherokee singer Loretta Lynn. And also because I associate very long memories and insurmountable family feuds with Native Americans and mountain dwellers. Apparently there was one last family feud between Don and Margaret about the ownership of her home. Thank God it really doesn't matter now and never did.

I remember parking cars at a famous restaurant in Hollywood Ca called the Villa Capri, Sinatra had some interest in it but the official owner was Patsy DiAmore. I was sitting outside in my chair with my drum practice pad and Phil pulled in and saw the pad as I put it away so I could park his car, he said “keep practicing young fellow.” I was around many musicians because of my father who was a legendary jazz drummer so I knew if some was putting me on, Phil was not, as nice and as sincere as one could be.
