Country-tinged rock and roll duo The Everly Brothers, consisting of Isaac Donald "Don" Everly and Phillip "Phil" Everly, were one of the most influential acts of the 20th century. The duo had a whopping 35 Top 100 singles, including "Cathy's Clown," "Bye Bye Love," and "Wake Up Little Susie," and were major influences on rock and roll titans like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The Fab Four, in fact, even referred to themselves as "the British Everly Brothers." But there was darkness behind the sweet smiles, magical harmonies, and clean-cut personas. This is The Everly Brothers: The Untold Truth.

The Everly Bros. were the inspiration for the Warren Zevon classic "Werewolves of London." At the time, Warren was the Everly's bandleader and Waddy Wachtel was the guitarist in that band. One of the brothers suggested that Warren write a dance song called "Do the Werewolf." Zevon mentioned the project when Waddy stopped by his hotel room and Waddy said "You mean...Awooo?" WZ answered in the affirmative and the rest is history. From being seen with a Chinese menu to the seducing of "little old ladies" to perfect hair...Lon Chaney and Lon Chaney, jr. were Phil and Don. Draw blood.

The Everly Brothers are my favorite Musicians and singers from the early days of Rock n Roll. I Loved their harmonies and their songs. It's seems to be an old, recurring story we hear where some talented artist(s) from a working class background gets chewed up and spat out by the music business 'machine'. Some of them do not survive, tragically. Some are never the same again. Success seems to carry a heavy price for them - but never for the business men making the money off of their talent.

When I went through basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot March 1967 Recruit Platoon 149, the DI S told us that the Everly Brothers went through basic training and they were their DI S. The Everly Brothers were in the Marine Corps Reserve. The DI S also told us they had Doris Day's son for basic training. Marines who went through basic training at Paris Island, South Carolina always called us San Diego basic training as Hollywood Marines.

@@sharonrodriguez9592 He certainly was. Listen to "I Hope You Always Drive A Cadillac", too. It's one of the ones released after the reunion. Don sings lead, but the chorus is out of sight. They never do it during a concert because it's too long (over 5 minutes) and it really pushes Phil to the limit. But it's neat. Have you ever heard him sing backup on "On Top of the World"? I don't remember the full name of the guy who sings it, but his first name is Rene and he refers to himself as "Mr Rock n Roll". Last is "Words In Your Eyes", an early solo by Phil.

So Sad was a song by the Everly brothers but not their version. The superior version is by Dillard and Clark. Gene Clark sings it as it was meant to be heard: a tragedy of good love gone bad. A great song as performed by Clark (one of the original members of the Byrds). He sang it as a sad ballad, the way the Everly's should have recorded it originally. The lyrics are brilliant!!! A fave of mine...👍♐
