It's ALWAYS fun and entertaining watching the Everlys do anything. And interesting how Don seemed to be a little reserved and Phil was the more animated and energetic one on this performance.

Hey John & Paul wanted to be Don & Phil. Seriously, I heard Paul say in a documentary that when they started singing that one was Don & the other Phil. They were very much influenced by the Everlys, as was a lot of others, Simon & Garfunkel for one. That Muhlenberg County Ky harmonizing went around. Even though they didn't grow up there, they were taught by and lived in the household with someone who did - their very talented father, Mr Ike Everly one of the best guitar players to ever pick up a guitar.

Hahahaaa..@2:27...when Phil says, “I don’t know how CBS ever let us go...”....this was clearly in reference to what transpired one year earlier when the network cancelled the wildly popular, “Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour”...the Everlys had also appeared on THAT program just months before its cancellation....of course, The Dean Martin Show was broadcast on their rival network, NBC....

Simple. It was a job. Paid the rent. By the mid-60s, their chart hits had pretty much dried up. They relied on summer tours in the US, TV shows, and tours in the UK and Europe for income.

Shame that Dean Martin was often drunk. Embarrassing nowadays
@romin50356 жыл бұрын
Carole Pearson He actually wasn't. it was a role he played like Foster Brooks. it was unfortunate that people thought that it was humorous to pretend to be an alcoholic though.
@CazPea6 жыл бұрын
R. Minerva - strange that one would want to pretend to be a drunk. He admitted himself he was an alcoholic. You think he was acting in this sketch? but looking at this sketch and watching the brothers reactions, at certain times, Makes me disagree that he hadn’t had a few jars in this video. I don’t suppose it really matters one way or the other! Just an observation
@romin50356 жыл бұрын
Carole Pearson I read that he played it up because that was his "character" in the brat pack days. Whatever the case, times have changed. I was here for the Everly Brothers, not Dean Martin anyway.
