Listening to Phil sing solo showed that he had a stronger voice and so talented. Its a pity he had to be the one singing the harmony, however, he did brilliantly thus immortaliding the Everly Brothers forever. Even when he was 7 years old, he had perfect pitch, singing Silent Night. Love them since I first heard them in 1964/65 when I was 10 / 11 years old.

@cathflorence761 - I wouldn't say that Phil's voice was "stronger." Don's voice was very strong, melodious, creative. But perhaps Phil often softened his harmonies to avoid overshadowing the melody. In this clip, Phil isn't holding back. Both Phil and Don are singing strongly in chest voice and every harmonizing note can be heard in synchrony with the melody. And it's simply perfect! What I love, love, LOVE about this video clip is that it captures the rarely heard BEST VERSIONS of the EB's most original (musically) work. Sometimes their live performances are more evocative because, as Phil explained in an interview, artists respond to the feel of the audience. When the performer can feel the emotions of the audience, the performer will intuitively give back what those emotions are asking for. Phil said that is why the same song sung over and over again all over the world remains fresh when they sing it. (I'll make an exception here for their routine, annual Las Vegas rodeo in which Don sings with complete indifference bordering on disrespect because the listeners are half drunk and not paying attention anyway. But it's a gig and it pays.)

According to the Rolling Stones...who supported The Everlys on UK tour......The Everly Brothers were the loudest band they had ever heard. Though the ballads could be gentle...the uptempo songs like "Lucille" were VERY loud.

Yes he says "Turn it around, Sam(my)." Referring to the lead guitarist Sam McCue. This was one of the standard sentences in live performances of this song, together with "Take it home, (Sam)." at the end of the song.
