The background music through my childhood and early teens. How can anyone not love these guys. They were brothers born to Play and sing together. Their voices were naturally perfect together.

So sad to learn of Don s passing. I was privileged to meet Phil and Don after their concert at the Spektrum Oslo Norway on 24 July 2004 when they appeared with Simon and Garfunkel in concert. I had the greatest pleasure having seen them previously at the Royal Albert Hall London on September 23 1983. I had followed their music closely since my early days at Grammar School in England from 1957. Together with the Byrds and the Moody Blues they were my all time favourites and they will be sadly missed but their music lives on. A brilliant duo!

Since hearing the sad news this morning of Phil's passing, I've been trying to play everything Everly on YT. And I've been crying all day. They were my first "favorite artist" and always my favorite duo. As many have said, they taught a generation how to sing harmony. Glad that Phil lived to see the unique tribute of an entire album of theirs (1958 folk collection "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us") being covered, cleverly named "Foreverly" by Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones. Phil was pleased with it. Now Phil is harmonizing in heaven with Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Sam Cook, Otis Redding and so many others we've lost. Prayers to the family.

I told him how my cousin and I covered their songs in our "combo" in the early-mid '60s. We discussed the reasons that familial harmonies worked so well b/c the timbre was complimentary among other "deep" subjects....there may have been alcohol involved...anyway I found him very approachable and open...nice guy...unlike some "stars" of the day
