This is how I play a mage at lower levels. It's not how you should play a mage. I do my best to explain what some mage spells do and how I use them in combat.

I’ve been playing a mage for about a week now on test. Never played a caster before. Is it common for casters to feel like 8 spell slots are way too few? Because I know I do. 😂 How do you give weapons to your pet? Is it just like giving stuff to any NPC?

Good news, you get more spell slots later with AA abilities. Yes, to give pet weapon you give like it was any NPC. I enjoy playing my mage. It's actually a good beginner class.

I tried logging in tonight multiple times and it wont let me, but regular servers are fine.

@@FezzelwhigsForum Test was down on Jan 9th for the patch. That was fun to spend an hour trying to figure out. :) Not sure if your downloader just decided not to update or not. Maybe that's what was keeping you out? Not sure though. All kinds of weird crap was being reported through chat last night. I had an elephant that I fighting in South Karana suddenly change into an "insect-being" right before I killed it, and it was 5 levels higher than the elephant. Should've taken a screenshot. Another person used one of the porting services to transport themselves and arrived naked with no items that they previously had on them, but still had all their money.

I'm level 4, why can't a summon a pet? Do I need need something in my inventory like a necro needs bone chips?

You need malachite to summon a mage pet. It is consumed each time you summon a new pet, so you need a lot of them. I try to keep at least 20 on me at all times.
